Bargain shopping in FA on the horizon per Gantt
MHS831 replied to top dawg's topic in Carolina Panthers
I appreciate this, as I am sure others do. -
Did someone say, "Tanneyhill" yet? Asking for a friend.

What does Moton tag mean for Curtis Samuel?
MHS831 replied to micnificent28's topic in Carolina Panthers
And we may have an effective slot on the roster or there could be one on day 3 of the draft. With the reduced cap, it is not a good year to be Samuel. I think he goes into the market and returns to accept a contract in the lower numbers---maybe some crackhead GM will throw the checkbook at him, but I doubt it. -
What I am hoping for is this--we have all been at the car lot for a while and we started with the $100,000 sports cars, then we started looking at the $60,000 "more practical" crossovers, and now we are kicking the tires of the Subaru Outbacks. While the Outback may be the best vehicle for our needs, we really wanted that sports car with the sun roof that can go 0-60 in 3 seconds. I have heard that Jones is not good, but I have not seen it. His stats do not indicate it. If we take Jones, we better surround him with a wall of stud OL and get him a TE. The sports car would have been great but in bad weather and slippery surfaces, the Outback outperforms. When I think that the crossover has heated seats and steers for you, I realized that the $30,000 Outback saves us $30,000 so we can use that money for insurance and other luxuries (OL and WRs and a TE). So Jones does not have the highlight reel--does he have the things that people do not notice on those films--progression speed and decision making, a quick release, leadership? I would not sell him short. And if you are still kicking the tires in the sports car and crossover sections of this car dealership, maybe the sensible choice is not in the showroom. I am hoping that is what is going on. Jones with Reed at G and a guy who until recently held aloft a cardboard sign at an intersection at LT is going to fail.

If we do not have a qb in free agency before the draft, I think Jones will be the pick. Since the Panthers do not care what I think or want, my preferences have nothing to do with that assessment. Rhule knows him and likes him. Trevor, Wilson, and Fields will be gone. Lance is a wild card, but Jones is the safe QB pick-- I think we find a way to get Watson, fwiw, so it will not come to this. If we spend too much to get Watson, we may be no better off.

Here, people have emotionally written him off---he requires a clean pocket, and he has been inconsistent, but the Chicago offense is not what I would call QB friendly.

Was the Gettleman's 2017 draft class the best in Panthers history?
MHS831 replied to hepcat's topic in Carolina Panthers
the secret (ssshhh) to building through the draft is to have 2 strong drafts back-to-back -
wonder about his arms (length)? (Sorry, should read the thread first). I think his speed is incredible.

I always wonder if one person says it and the parrots start chirping the news.

I think we should have orange helmets with a white paw print on them. But I am a visionary.

Chris Simms “no way the panthers draft Lance at 8”
MHS831 replied to GoobyPls's topic in Carolina Panthers
Here is the line of questioning we should all ask ourselves. Is Simms right? (No? advance to next question) are you right? (No? advance to next question) Could the answer be that nobody is right? -

If this is true....wait for it.......Mond could be drafted before Lance......Discuss., -
https://theathletic.com/2233780/2020/12/03/panthers-roster-analysis-free-agents/ I am looking forward to seeing his article about how he saw this coming. Seriously, he has been yanking folks around on here for years, and it is time to call him out. Just for fun.

And what did Panther insider and NFL guru Joe Person say about 2 months ago? 30% chance Moton returns. I called BS on him, and said they would tag him, as many of you did. He is a master click baiter.

Former QB's support Teddy..this week's pro days..from the Observer
MHS831 replied to ladypanther's topic in Carolina Panthers
BOLD: The reason he is probably going to end up as just another horrible symbol of 2020--along with COVID-19 etc--a bad memory. An average arm and Tommy John Surgery---and Jake was starting to age--and there were no real interested suitors in Free Agency---and Hurndog gives him a big contract. Ridiculous. -
I have a bottle of champagne cooling in the pantry--and I have a suicide note for my wife and kids in the safe---both anticipating the Watson news. (kidding--I would like Watson, but the expected cost is turning me away from it) I would rather be the team that drafts and develops its QB of the future. )

Richard Sherman thinks Mac Jones criticized unfairly
MHS831 replied to panthers55's topic in Carolina Panthers
You are right--he is very intelligent. He also looks at the QB position very differently--he does not care if the QB can run or if his arm strength can throw a football through a rock wall--he knows timing--he is not the fastest DB, so he relies on his intelligence to anticipate--like a QB. He knows that the ball arriving on time and accurately is nearly impossible to defend. A running QB is someone else's job. Personally, I think Jones will go top 12. I think Mond (based on the research I have done after seeing Simms' video on him) could be the steal of the draft--the "Russell Wilson" pick of 2021. -

Attack their points, not the people who made them. There is a difference. If you choose to ignore their statements because you discount them as quarterbacks, then the same rule should apply to the poster. That is a problem these days--people do not know how to make or debate points-instead, they discredit and attack--in this case, erroneously. -

I think Jake came in vs. Jax in a season opener late in the game for Rodney Peete and threw a perfect pass on the last play of the game to win the game--hitting Proehl in the corner of the endzone. Not fact checking before posting, but that kind of thing was his trademark here. -

Good points. Of course, the Minnesota TD was on the D and the interference non call had a lot to do with it, but if one play costs you the game, you should have wrapped it up sooner. You are right about Teddy. Like a vehicle with 4-wheel drive--most of the time you do not need it... -

Jake was a gamer. He was limited as an athlete, did not have the cannon, etc. But when the game was on the line, Jake put it on the line. He might be the most overachieving Panther ever. He is probably my favorite Panther for that reason. -

It is not lost on me that the first reply post that criticized Jake and Steve's ability to put the team on their backs was created by a person who never played in the NFL--and the only person he has had on his back is his manager at Taco Bell for taking a long break to create such a post. I don't think their advice for a year 2 will come to fruition, but there are teams out there reportedly think Teddy will be better off in a better system. That is how you find gems. We now have seen the range-- In New Orleans in 2019, Teddy comes in with a strong supporting cast and wins 5 games in 5 tries. In Charlotte in 2020, with an injured LT, CMC, and scrub LG and non-existent TE for most of the season, Teddy wins 4 games in 15 tries, but shows spurts and is close in most games. Maybe (They think) that not having CMC, Okung, and a LG and TE is the reason we did not win those close games--not the QB. So there is the basis for their argument and the reason some teams are kicking the tires on the Teddy speed wagon.
