  1. Here is a point that few seem to value. The coaching staff last season, for the most part, was the "dream team" of sorts, a bunch of older guys resting on their laurels. What happens when you reach that point is you start leaning on your experience and you want to stay on the horse that brung you-less willing to accept newfangled concepts or adapt with the changing dynamics of the league. With the exception of Evero, we were dinosaurs. Canales has a young staff and he preaches coaching. Even with Andy Dalton, the first day was going through basic QB mechanics. He said he does not want to see coaches standing watching drills with their arms folded, meaning that he wants them to be teaching during the drills. Bryce commented about Corbett--"Even on IR, he asks more questions than anyone else." In the past, our players have not developed after drafting them, so I get the cynicism. However, I think this is a new day, based on these tea leaves. Positivity, teaching, learning--the culture has been toxic and many of us are poisoned with negativity. The draft is mining for talent--and you draft for 4-5 years. We talk about "developmental" and "upside" but if the player is not up to your high level of standards, you want to bury him before day 1. Part of being around a toxic culture.
  2. I am not sure how they will use Legette. First, people are disregarding the new KO rules and how he might play out on special teams. Secondly, he is known for contested catches and crossing routes--I see him in motion quite a bit, based on that skill set.
  3. Buffalo was in need of a WR, and after Pearsall was drafted, the Panthers may have figured that a team needing a WR (like the Panthers, for example) could trade up with Buffalo to get the fifth year option at the end of the first round. Look at the teams picking early in the second round and look at the big board. There is going to be a run on WRs. This not only provided the Panthers with the fifth-year option, but it assured them that nobody was going to deal with Buffalo, and Buffalo was not going to take Legette. So Bean decided to upgrade his day three sixth rounder to a fifth, and Morgan got his guy and the fifth year option. Win Win. Obviously Buffalo was open for business, so if you consider the fact that Buffalo might have been getting calls for the pick, Morgan switched places with Buffalo. It is likely that Buffalo did not want to drop farther than 33, so they dealt with Carolina--dealing with anyone else would risk losing Mitchell, the guy they probably covet (or Ladd). The ONLY team who was assured they are not going to lose their guy is Buffalo. I am not sure this deal goes down unless Morgan tells Bean who he was going to take and that Beane trusted Morgan's word. After pick 33.... Pick 34. New England needs a receiver. Pick 36. Washington needs a receiver. Pick 37. Chargers need multiple receivers. Pick 44. Raiders need a receiver. Pick 45. Saints need a receiver. The NFL Draft ESPN Big board for "Best Remaining" Players features 3 Wide Receivers in the next 7 picks. I am guessing that Buffalo wants Mitchell, and when the Panthers decided to go with Legette, they were willing to deal.
  4. I think Pearsall was always going higher but yes, the run on WRs is going to happen today--CBs too. However, the move that caused the Panthers to trade up was when Buffalo and KC switched positions. Morgan and Beane are friends and that deal was pretty generous. KC would not have surrendered the fifth year option, in all likelihood.
  5. WIthout having seen the offense yet--we can assume that, but most WRs have the same weaknesses transitioning from college to pros. I was avoiding Legette in my mocks, but they met with him quite a bit etc. They apparently did not want to lose him.
  6. What exactly is your point and what are you hoping to accomplish? So the team did not draft the guy you wanted? You think Ladd McConkey has no shortcomings? This post demonstrates how you are looking for anything you can to prove that you are all knowing and the Panther general manager and coach are dumb. Is that what you want? Instead of taking the position, "I have no idea how this might work out, fingers crossed." you have decided to go on a witch hunt. Not with you. I hope he balls out enough to cause you to change your username and profile pic.
  7. Legette has not practiced yet, and but the "glass half empty" crowd has decided to get vocal. Good for you guys.
  8. Showing his RAS score may not indicate an obsession. I got it off a Colts site and they all wanted Legette. I guess 2-15 darkens the perspectives of the fan base....I was actually reading an article last night (when we drafted Legette) about how the SF fans booed Jerry Rice his first season.
  9. Please direct me to the WR in this draft that was available at 32 who is not raw in some ways? We really traded up for the contract, not the person. If switching a fifth for a sixth bothers you, you are talking about 23.6 trade value points. Not a big deal. However, if he plays, we could save $15m or so on the fifth year option. It was smart, actually. All first rounders have strengths and weaknesses. Most WRs have never faced press man coverage, and they struggle to do so st first. He is 6'3" and 227--he will overcome it. And being a good athlete is not a crime, even if you are tired of it.
  10. He is a bit raw, and we may have motion him to keep him from strong press man coverage--Tennessee managed to contain him--he caught 5 balls for 50 yards. He was SC's only real threat, so he garnered a lot of attention in 2023. According to his RAS score, he is impressive. I think he will struggle at first, and they will experiment with how to use him. He is good at contested catches and crossing routes.
  11. So you think you are a better GM than Morgan? Interesting. It must be frustrating for you.
  12. That CB from Iowa can play the nickel for us and he would be great at it. He can play outside. He can play safety. He can tackle and he is a ball hawk. He or JPJ (Center) would be great, Gonna call the pick: Saintrisil (CB) or Wilson (LB)
  13. Had Buffalo and KC not traded, it would not have gone down. KC would never give up a 5th year option but Morgan and Beane are buddies, so I really believe that BB threw us a bone.
  14. Seriously--3 starters on defense and a WR on offense--that is 4 of 22 starters. We have had Shi, Travelle, Captain, and a few others.
  15. By the way, Cam was great today. Perfect for the red carpet.
  16. Even when Canales said, "We tell that (we are picking you) to everyone" it was as if he was trying to hide his cards after dropping them on the table. That was a rumor that proved to be true. The other rumor is the Panthers will take Mike Saintrisil. if that comes true, they have a problem.
  17. How can you know that you are right? A: You can't. So you didn't like the pick--can you support the team and the player?
  18. Nobody can really understand this pick until the see the offense and how he will be used. So bitching is premature. XL is high risk high reward--and they did their homework. I am willing to see what he can do
  19. Some just want to bitch. I think this was an incredibly smart move by Morgan--well worth the late round pick swap--and I think XL has a ton of upside and potential--probably more than the others yet to be drafted.
  20. Moving up (trading a fifth rounder for a sixth) gave us a fifth year option--well worth it when you see that WRs are making over $30m now. As for the "better available" comment--not everyone agrees with you. I saw him mocked in the first round by some. He had a wide range. Do you know how or where they plan to use him? 220 lbs, over six feet tall, good hands, and runs a sub 4.4. I get it that he is a bit unknown, but it sounds like the Panthers did their howework. Sounds like he really wants to be here. I think you will change your mind soon.
  21. So give us a technical analysis of XL's limitations and how you have already determined that he is not up to your standards of excellence. I guarantee your response will totally avoid what most would consider a sufficient, intelligent response.
  22. I think its sadly humorous how some Huddlers are already calling him a bust (in so many words). Unreal.
  23. This is the e list i put together. I removed the six players I thought would be drafted before 39: BOLD: Probably gone by 39-- B Cooper DeJean DT Johnny Newton WR Adonai Mitchell WR Ladd McConkey CB Kool-Aid McInstry DT Braden Fisk This is what we have left (approximately). If you want C, and JP-J is there, we are lucky. I do not think they will draft a Center. The best edge is available, but I do not see them pulling that trigger either. The CBs are solid and there are a lot of good ones, but I think the ILB pool is so limited and the best ILBs are possibly available here. There are seven "second tier" CBs listed, and it is probably unlikely that seven CBs go in round 2...meaning that a CB on the second tier level should be there at 65. EDGE Marshawn Kneeland. C Jackson Powers-Johnson CB Enis Rakestraw LB Edgerrin Cooper LB Payton Wilson CB T J Tampa LB Junior Colson CB Max Melton CB Mike Saintrilsil CB Kamari Lassiter Personally, I think I would draft Edgerrin Cooper or Payton Wilson at 39. Then I would draft a CB at 65. I might draft the C instead of a LB, but I am not getting a decent ILB after round 2.
