  1. He does not have #8 value, but if their is a feeding frenzy, he could go off the board if there is a run. I would certainly expect him to be gone by mid first round, and that is reaching.
  2. Perhaps I read thread titles too literally, but you had me at "weird but"
  3. We are going to draft one of five QBs, not four, and Jones could be the guy. We are not leaving the first round without a QB--- I see us moving up with NYJ, Miami, or Cincinnati, depending on who we want. We are going to be aggressive, and sitting on #8 is not aggressive. If Stafford is drawing a starting QB, 2 firsts and a third, giving up a future first is not unreasonable.
  4. I think we have too many needs and we have a decent backup right now. Not sure what message it sends your first rounder-
  5. Exactly. There is going to be some QB musical chairs. Garrappolo to New England, for example, is a rumor.
  6. I would guess that there is a below 10% chance Bridgewater will be the QB...I would say they will try to trade him (part of the trade up package). Someone will appreciate a veteran backup behind a young stud--probably can't be here.
  7. One year removed from Cam, but four years removed from Cam's last good season (2017). Until we released him, however, we were functioning on false hope. MARK THESE WORDS: Panthers will trade up with the Jets or the Bengals and get a QB.
  8. Based on what? The Stafford trade? That probably helps the Panthers get a new QB.
  9. I would too. We might get a fifth rounder as well, if you go by point values, but I would not count on it until the QBs are gone. Remember, our new GM said there is not a lot of difference between 18 and 40. 40 is our second rounder-- I have been trying to get momentum for packaging a player in with the deal as well--ridding us of a contract--and the player I would deal that they could use is Shaq Thompson.
  10. I appreciate considering all perspectives--and this is probably not an option, but a default fall back. About the Jets--Saleh has made comments that suggest he is going to give Darnold a running game and some weapons. He is not ready to get rid of a 24-year old QB. They may trade back. They need picks, with needs all over the place (2 WRs, 2-3 OL, TE) if they want to get a good look at Darnold. There are not many teams that need a QB within reach of the #2 pick--we are probably looking at Top 10 draft picks. Personally, I think the Jets trade back, to around 8-10 and grab a WR. Let's just leave it there and analyze the competition for the Jets #2 overall pick. So what QB-needy teams are capable of moving up within reason? The Dolphins, but they probably do not take a QB, but they may trade out---who cares if we are looking at the Jets. The Falcons? It makes sense for them (with so many needs) to avoid trading up. They have Ryan and can draft a player more developmental. The Bengals don't need a QB. The Eagles (#6) could move up for a QB--but that would mean giving up on 2 Philly QBs. Not going to do it. The Lions will give Goff a chance before moving on. The would be in position to move up for a QB, but why do it this year when you can give Goff a chance and you have the picks to move up in 2022? I think they address other needs. So if the Panthers want to avoid all of the risk of being leapfrogged for a QB, and there is a particular QB they seek, I see them giving up #8 #40 and the first rounder in 2022 to move up. OR they really like Fields, Lance, and Jones, and they will just sit at #8 to see if one or both drop to them.
  11. I predict that there will not be much difference between Lance and Jones. Lawrence: Top pick Wilson: Top 3 pick Fields: Top 5 pick Lance: Top 10 pick Jones: Top 15 pick.
  12. I am wrong about the draft (when a few years have passed) that I do not pretend to know more than the team scouts. I was wrong about Cam, Luke, CMC. Right about Thomas Davis (good pick--I defended him) and Kelvin Benjamin.
  13. If there are no trades, then maybe. Who can afford to move up to the top 4? A team at #7-12 or so. The Jets, Dolphins, Falcons, Bengals, Eagles, and maybe even the Lions could trade out-giving a QB starved team the slot.
  14. I would take it hard. I would need some consoling from fellow Huddlers.
  15. I just do not know if this was a condition for giving LA the cap room needed so the trade can go down or if they really want him....If we got him, I think we'd give him a season (at age 26) especially if we had Brunell. I personally think system and supporting talent, defense, etc. make a difference. Even if you dump Stafford's salary, accepting Goff's deal for a backup QB is not exactly strategic-
  16. I am starting to think Mac Jones is going to be the pick. Forget the mobility--smarts trumps mobility. Not sure I am happy about this, but I trust the experts who had the chance to work with him. for 3 days. And I think we have been harsh on him..Bama QB curse? Too many weapons? Well, you could argue to the move is to draft a smart qb that needs protection and weaponry and give him protection and weaponry. I just think that Rhule liked him, and he built a career on recognizing talent that was overlooked. A guy who covered the SR Bowl said he thinks Jones could be the 4th QB taken. I am not happy about this, and this is why I am still bitter about the Rivera victory in DC. However, how many people had Josh Allen as the #1 QB in that draft--I had him at #4. So I lack the confidence to act like I know.
  17. He likes Duck Dynasty--I did not know that. Seriously, if you can't beat out TB, you are probably wasting a roster spot.
  18. Since our staff was there and working with half of this group daily, here is what is being said this morning. I was traveling and have yet to see the game, so I was reading stuff about it. I think we are going to trade up, and I do not expect us to have a second rounder (just my guess--I am thinking we give up #8, #40, and maybe #1 in 2022 to move up to #2 or #3. Just a hunch, but we were doing some bottom fishing last week. Here are some names to watch: Winners Osa Odighizuwa (IDL, UCLA) - Odighizuwa was the most disruptive defensive tackle against the run in this game. On multiple plays, he easily disengaged from linemen to stop the ball at or near the line of scrimmage. At times, Odighizuwa appeared unblockable by the opposing offensive line. His early impact came on an almost strip-sack that was ruled an incomplete pass. (OF COURSE BROWN, KERR, and ROY COULD USE HELP) Elerson Smith (DE, Northern Iowa) - Smith has a fantastic build to develop into a good pass rusher in the NFL, and we were reminded early why you shouldn’t overlook him despite being an FCS player. Smith was flagged for a very soft roughing the passer call, but leading up to that call he read a play-action pass perfectly to the point he planted Kellen Mond. Smith was also very fluid as a rusher, and not easily blocked by opposing tackles. Benjamin St-Juste (CB, Minnesota) - As one of the few near lockdown corners on the day, St-Juste made multiple big pass break-ups. St-Juste was a menace the whole time he was on the field for opposing receivers, with super tight one on one coverage. The tall, long corner flashed what he can do in coverage. Minnesota CB Benjamin St-Juste really caught the eye in the first half. Two pass breakups and was lock solid in coverage throughout. #SeniorBowl pic.twitter.com/iL49KEisgK — Cat Crave (@CatCraveBlog) January 30, 2021 (WE COULD USE A CB) Baron Browning (LB, Ohio State) - On two occasions, Browning made two strong tackles for loss in the run game. One coming early in the game was an effective job filling quickly and attacking downhill. The second came on a third and short play in the second quarter where he disrupted Larry Roundtree enough to slow down, allowing for his teammates to rally. KJ Britt (LB, Auburn) - Britt was all over the field during this game, with a plethora of really good plays. He was a strong tackler on rushing plays and tipped a pass in the red zone that was almost intercepted. (MLB IS A HUGE NEED) Amari Rodgers (WR, Clemson) - Rodgers didn’t do much in the first half, but shined big time in the third quarter. Twice Rodgers caught touchdown passes in the red zone, flashing his ability to create separation out of the slot. Demetric Felton (WR, UCLA) - Felton had an early touchdown reception that took advantage of a large cushion in off coverage. Felton also had other big receptions during the game, showing off his speed and route running. While Felton played running back at UCLA, he’ll likely be utilized as a moveable offensive weapon in the NFL. If SAMUEL IS NOT RE-SIGNED, BOTH PLAYERS MAKE SENSE https://www.bigblueview.com/2021/1/30/22257928/2021-senior-bowl-winners-and-losers-from-the-game-nfl-draft https://youtu.be/5Sqkcyv99lc
  19. I would also remind Panther fans of the success we have had in the past picking small school OL---Silatolu? Kugbila? He could be a great kid with a great motor, but...proceed with caution.
  20. OK, If I am the GM in Detroit, here is how I approach this: We have a former NFL star QB who thinks he can save Goff. Goff is 26--seven years younger than Stafford---and has demonstrated that he can play if protected. Drafting a QB in round 1 before they know what they can do with Goff is probably overkill. I think they Lions will draft an OL (Sewell) or a WR (Chase, Devanta Smith). They could trade back, and they could double down and take a QB early, but if he needs protection, I just see the Lions building a line and giving him weapons.
  21. For those wondering about Goff and the Lions' attitude about grabbing another QB right away, there is this article. https://lionswire.usatoday.com/2021/01/31/trading-for-jared-goff-gives-the-lions-a-starter-level-qb-and-a-potential-bridge-to-the-future/ "At just 26 years of age, the door isn’t shut on Goff revitalizing his career with the Lions — it’s happened before, look no further than Ryan Tannehill and the Titans — but he has shown that when he feels pressure in the pocket, he struggles to produce and that’s a significant concern. Can the Lions get him enough pass protection? Can QB coach Mark Brunell use his 19 years of NFL quarterbacking experience to teach him how to handle the pressure? Those will surely be questions at the forefront of the Lions coaching staff this offseason." Because of this, adding a quarterback with the No. 7 pick in the NFL draft is still very much in play. With four quarterbacks capable of being selected at the top of this draft, the Lions will be in a position to get value for their pick. If there is a large gap between the Lions’ quarterback rankings, they now have enough draft capital to trade up to get their guy if they need to. If the Lions do select a quarterback in this draft class, Goff is the perfect bridge quarterback for Detroit, as they won’t feel the need to force the rookie into action early and can give him time to develop."
  22. Folks, if you compare the players and picks, yes--Detroit robbed the Rams--but do not discount the value of getting out of that dumb contract with Goff and Getting Stafford on board for 4-5 years. I wonder how much the success of Indy and Tampa Bay played into this? Brady is 10 years older than Stafford. Rivers was about 5 years older.
  23. Their first rounders have not really worked out.
  24. I think they took Goff to get rid of the contract--so the deal was Stafford for the picks and ridding us of this bad contract. They may not draft a QB at #8, however, because they have needs. Here is what I would do--you have Goff and Chase Daniel. If Goff does not work out, NEXT year you have 2 or even 3 first rounders to move up for anyone you want. Build around Goff and see what you have in this system--give him some weapons, etc. They could TRADE back with the #7 pick, or even trade up--but I see them taking a WR at #8. Chase is my guess--if there.
