Jamie Newman not taking part in Georgia's Pro Day
MHS831 replied to Mr. Scot's topic in 2023 NFL Draft
In pre college season ratings, he was (foolishly) given a first round grade. He is from Graham, NC, so maybe he will sign as an Undrafted FA near his home. -
I am getting pissed off with the Panthers because I need them to finish signing people so I can be more accurate in my mock draft game. Flyin' Blind here, Fitts--let's make a move.
-
I think we could free about $2m in cap room by cutting him. The draft is not good for TEs, but who knows?
-
I am glad---never a fan. They overpaid, but they have the cap room. Protection for a franchise QB?
-
So rounds 1-3 are the only rookie OL? If you add all the rest, then roughly 15 of about 50 started for half a season--fewer started from day 1, which probably was the point. I would not call 30% a lot, but I see your point.
-
Glad you said this--it is correct And Elfein is a better run blocker and puller than Reed was-- and I think Erving could be the RG--not the LT. They targeted these two players--knowing they were on a budget. I am starting to get it. They will be good in this system. Imagine if we upgraded both G spots with about $8-9m per season?
-
Are you all talking about Cam Erving? I think he could be the RG---not that I have heard anything--speculation-- Of course, they could let Daley, Scott, Little, and Erving compete for LT--but I think he is a RG. I think we might draft LT-- BUT if we have to trade the first and second rounder, we would have not really addressed LT. Erving gives us depth/competition at LT and a starter at RG, imo.

I think Elflein will be the starting LG, and I think we will like him. He is good in the run game he can pull and block in the flats or cross the formation and kick out. He is young, and needs to work on pass protection, but I think he will start. About Cam Ewing. He actually played C at Florida State for a season (I think his final year). He is 29 and I think could be the next RG. At KC, he looked good at G and played both sides. They paid him more than a backup, so I think he will be in the competition at several positions (LT, RG, C)? If we got 2 starting Guards out of this and they play well, this could be great. I know many of you are bummed--so was I, but these were not leftovers. We went out and got them--we targeted these two "diamonds in the rough"

I read something recently that stated they may bring Trubiski back. Who knows, but that ship seems to have sailed.
-
we may already have our 2 guards. Not sure how they will be used, but...
-
I did not think they had the room. JuJu might be gone.
-
I LOVE this time of year.
-
Nah. It is a good thing the cupboard is full of LBs here in Carolina. Whew! We are heading for another year of major changes.
-
But everyone, I have a theory. Gather round. We basically had 3 NTs here last year, and we were not sure about Roy, who has since proven himself. I think Kerr does not fit the mold, because we want a 3T or two. We are going to add one--which is why Obada became less valuable. I stake my reputation as a person who is never wrong on this.

I lied about the 40-53 Huddlers so that people would think I am in the know like Verge. I checked my inbox. crickets.
-
Me too--fully expected us to do that. These 2 guys can back up the entire OL--and either would probably be an upgrade at LG.
-
I blocked that A hole months ago.

Since the start of Tampering period, I have had 40-73 Huddlers PM me, all asking me for the MHS831, my real name actually, perspective. So here it is, if bullet form, although I am not a violent man: The Panthers wanted these guys because they locked em down very early in the process. The are both versatile, able to play multiple positions. Both hustle, getting down field on screens or draw plays. They both have weaknesses and injury histories that are not considered major or career-threatening. So do we know what we have? 2 centers? A guard and tackle? A center and a tackle? 2 Guards? A center and a guard? The answer (right now) is "yes." I am sure that Rhule and Fits are aware of their shortcomings and their risks, but they didn't just grab them for a year, they signed them to multiple year deals. They wanted these 2 players and targeted them for a reason. You have to think their versatility is key. Perhaps that will suffice for now.

about the draft being full of OL---it sure is, but rookies starting on the OL in the NFL are a bit rare. Defenses love it.
-
And Scott was not the worst--if we grab a T in the second and he needs a half season, we are probably OK. Basically, we signed a Larsen who can compete at LG and a T that can play behind both ends of the LOS--the 19th and 70th picks in their respective drafts.
-
You always bring sensibility to the Huddle. Until I see the big picture, I am not totally in or out. These 2 contracts can be paid for by trading Teddy
-
That is kind of how i feel. I am waiting for them to make sense. I get it if we waited until next week and looked at these guys, but during the tampering period (I know one was released, I think (but the longer you wait, the price goes down. They must have a certain "type" they are looking for. I firmly believe that the system must be a good fit, and I recall a player like Evan Mathis getting released here and becoming a pro bowler in Philly--so let's see/
