  1. Erving at G--how did he do in KC? I have not given it thought, but we restructured Paradis and paid Elf a 3-year deal, so I did not see Erving at G. What do you know?
  2. I think a #1 CB is our biggest need at this time, depending on how one feels about Darnold. I hate the idea of Erving at LT, and I think a decent LT prospect is there in round 2. There are some tackles in the second round, but no #1 CBs. If we get a #1 CB, it immediately makes Jackson better, because he can now cover the less established WR. In the NFC South, that means we have a better player on Jones, Thomas, and Evans, for example--that makes a huge difference, moving Action Jackson to the #2.
  3. Tannehill was on a terrible, dysfunctional, poorly coached team in Miami. I am struggling to see the compari--oh, there it is.
  4. Sam Darnold is younger tha Joe Burrow. This is like an experienced rookie who will appreciate the opportunity more than we all know.
  5. Funny when they talk trash. I like seeing the pictures of the Jets' fans on draft day--same look they had on the "bubble in your name" portion of the SAT.
  6. FWIW, how would feel about spending a first rounder on Mac Jones? That is probably where we were headed. Or 2 first rounders on a QB from NDSU? or one of Ohio State's many QBs?
  7. I had the same thought. This is a much better deal for a QB with more upside. People, you can look at stats all day--they don't measure coaching, culture, or the future. They are snapshots of what happened. So what? If they want to give this a shot, what is it really costing us? Not $40m for sure.
  8. Another factor---we are going to kick the tires for 2 years before we fish or cut bait with him.
  9. I am pushing Mills, fwiw--trade back up into the late second Chinn style.
  10. Agreed. And one thing we all could probably agree on: He will be better here. How much? Remains to be seen, but if we sent NYJ 3 firsts and Wilson busted, I would then be pissed.
  11. What if we trade back (now that we can) and add a second rounder in the draft? It would seem that we not only are locked into a first round QB (it was going to be Mac Jones, prolly) and we can get a decent CB or OL, add a second rounder and draft a T/CB, and add---wait for it---Mond or Mills. By developing a young QB while giving Darnold a chance AND building around him, you are not strapped into taking the #5 QB in the draft in the top 10, or you do not have to roll three first rounders out there to move up. I like the move--lets see how this plays out.
  12. A second THIS year would not be that alarming. Consider the second NEXT year as interest so that we can have 3 picks on days 1 and 2-,maybe more. Next year? In today's value: A third and a fifth. Folks, we are talking about a former top 3 pick who was sent to QB HELL. He is 23.8 years old. Damn nice gamble, if you ask me. Worst case scenario? We have a decent backup QB for 2 years. Best case scenario? We realize just how toxic NYJ culture was---have you heard Robbie talk about it?
  13. Of course they are, if you call them atrocious before anyone plays a down. Look, this aint fantasy football--this about team concept and fit. Maybe he busts here--but you know, maybe Wilson would have too. Maybe Fields will be terrible. Maybe Lance is really Mark Sanchez in disguise.
  14. By the way, read the comments from other teams' fans on PFT. Many think we stole him.
  15. That will be up to Darnold and Brady and Rhule. Be interesting to hear how this decision came to be. I still think we are now addressing this from the bottom up. If we upgraded Teddy, good for now--all we can do at the moment, and a 24 year old kid might be salvageable, when we both know Teddy is not.
  16. About 50% of QBs taken in Round 1 are starting on a second contract. Many become Walmart employees. So there is risk, and we selected a top 4 QB who was thrown into one of the worst situations any rookie has ever inherited, and he struggled. Shocked? And I honestly think they were trying to throw games, evidenced with the Williams firing mid season--so who knows how many of the play calls were BS---I dunno--but giving away a 2022 second rounder is a very small price to pay vs. the 3 third rounders we might pay for a bust.
  17. I see this as on piece of the puzzle. We are going to bring in someone else, maybe a rookie, and Darnold could lost the job if he sucks. If I thought Darnold was the answer, I would be concerned, but he is part of the solution.
  18. 5-0 and we paid him $60m for 3 years---he looked good to someone.
  19. Darnold has lower body mechanics issues. When you scramble, they are magnified. As the Jets were losing, the QB tends to press and try to make things happen. Playing from behind with no defense is much different than playing with a lead or having a strong defense. Now lets work on the mechanics and see what we have. Lets keep him in the game and not send him out to make miracles happen. I am going out on a limb here and I am going to suggest that we watched some film on him. I am reaching here, but I think they like the arm and his overall chances for turning it around. If they are wrong, it is not like they invested $40m guaranteed on him, like they did Teddy---who, by the way, was 5-0 with the Saints in 2019 and looked good....
