TEA LEAVES? Does this mean that they expect Chinn to be included in the trade for D4 and decided we need some depth? Mysterious, man.

Yes. He likes orange helmets. The Browns agreed to keep them orange. Deal done.

Panthers close to deal with G Austin Corbett
MHS831 replied to UNCrules2187's topic in Carolina Panthers
FWIW, I wanted him at LT all season--too good an athlete. However, they seem determined to make him a LG--and I think, if we move the pocket and pull him in the run game, he could be decent there--with experience. The fact that he played no real position in 2021 is an outrage. We saw him vs. 2 teams at LT play well--and there are so many different kinds of DEs/OLBs in the NFL, it takes several games to get a good feel. If I were playing vs. BC, I would get a 280 lb DE and bull rush him. Not sure he saw that in the last few games. -
Were you around when the Panthers traded for backup Jake Delhomme?
-
I am leaning Watson (make the trade) but I see your points and must admit, they will be the first things that pop into my head if we sign Watson. Good argument against the field.
-
Not really--he is talking about Gardner Minshew and Burns, Chinn, three first rounders...I see the point. I am on the Watson bus, but I too wonder. Remember, a former Saints backup took us to the Super Bowl.

It is a huge gamble and it could indeed backfire.

Age might be the only answer

While your argument is compelling, if we find a better LT in free agency (and I doubt it) BC becomes the LG. That is what I meant when I said, "Brady is a LG--hopefully" It means we have upgraded 2 positions. -

Nearly a first round pick---#33 overall. -

So we now have 2 credible NFL starting OL We have an unproven 26-year old LG (hopefully) in Christensen. A marginal C (Elflein) who might play better between 2 solid Guards. So maybe, just maybe--a LT or LG is all we need. Discuss amongst yourselves. -
If we are talking about OT free agents in this draft, it could mean one of two things: 1. We are trading our #6 overall pick for Watson. 2. We are using our #6 overall pick on a QB, probably Willis. It makes more sense to sign a free agent LT if you signed Watson than it does to pass on a solid LT for a mediocre QB likely to bust.

I agree. So we pay $35m for a QB who is out for over 1/3 of our games. 2022 done, imo. We lose a star RB, DE, and maybe a WR like Moore. We lose our first in 2022, 2023, and 2024. And we can only be good when this investment is 28--which means we have a top QB for about 5-7 years. So if 2022 is a lost cause because we only get Watson for about 60% of the games if he is healthy, why not trade the players you intend to include in the deal for first rounders, basically guaranteeing the chance to draft a top rookie QB in 2023, when the shopping is good? Not suggesting this, but I am saying there are many ways to become relevant. If we dont get Watson, I am OK with it. If we do, great.

Yeah, If I am honest, I would like Watson but understand that there are benefits if we do not get him--like players and picks. Imagine, long term, that we lose in 2022. Fire Rhule, draft a stud QB, and still have cap room for the core. Is that worse than signing a guy who might miss 1/3 of the regular season games on suspension? Either way, 2022 is toast.
