  1. responding to the first page only--(have not read pages 2-3) I was looking at the post trade mocks online and most have Young as the pick. That could be simply because he is rated as QB 1. To me, when drafting a QB, you really need to look at their potential. At both schools, the QB got good coaching--so this might come down to this: Is Young's processing and work ethic enough to carry him over Stroud's physical tools? Both have both, so it probably will come down to the system and fit.
  2. that is fine--that is an opinion and you did not attack someone else for having one. I agree, but we are still going to need a starting LB if we cut Shaq, and he seems to know the locker room and is trusted by members of the organization, for what that's worth. I thought his contract was a bit excessive when signed, but considering the circumstances and where we are now, I get this move--I would not have been in position to have to make it, but I HATE creating dead cap and we are like second in the NFL in that category--like the player or not, dead cap cripples the team more. By the way, I am of the mindset that you should never have a RB on a second contract---like in college, bring them in, keep them for 4 years, and when they age out, ship them out. The reason? At 26 the RB is in his prime. At 27, they start declining (there is research on this). by 30, they are usually ineffective (there are exceptions). Few ever earn their second contract.
  3. Absolutely--I am not a big fan of his, but we have been spoiled with the ILB positions over the years. If we released him, there would have been something like $11m in dead cap (I am not sure how all that works). Then we would take the $13m we saved and spend $10-12m finding his replacement in free agency-probably nobody younger or nobody better.
  4. How about "CJ not Henderson." I have a lab for brainstorming, but it was locked.
  5. Some of y'all make posts on the huddle to share your opinions and to hear the opinions of others. Others of y'all make posts on the huddle to criticize the others for having an opinion. It's cool that they did what they did--one less free agent to worry about, because we would have had to replace him. 2 years until age 31--that is still in his prime and he will be playing inside--he is not a RB....Personally, I thought he was a goner, but the cap room we saved we would have spent on an equal or lesser player, imo.
  6. In fairness, Mills, Morgan, Davis, Beason, Kuechly---we are pretty spoiled when it comes to LB....
  7. The Carolina Panthers are on the clock.
  8. The Titans were the Oilers. But I enjoyed the rant!
  9. This entire thread is to say, "The Carolina Panthers are on the clock"
  10. Personally, on draft night, I think we should trade the #1 pick to Da Bears for the #9 and #61 pick, a first in 2024, a second in 2025, and maybe a WR like DJ Moore.
  11. About 10 days ago, I predicted that we'd trade up with Chicago but added that we would have to throw in a player. After looking at the Bears' needs, I speculated that they would want Brown. Reason? The Bears had a ton of needs and future draft picks don't fill those needs--they also have a ton of cap room. I am glad it was Moore and not Brown, to be honest. So I was close--but by that time, most of us were guessing Bears or Cards--
  12. BASICALLY, THE CAROLINA PANTHERS ARE ON THE CLOCK....
  13. let's say the PANTHERS covet Stroud but want to make 100% sure because they really like Young. They did not trade for 1 player definitively, they traded for control to have the time to research this KNOWING they will get the player they covet--I mean, Imagine the prom was coming up and the two best looking girls in the school wanted you to ask them---you would not rush into that decision, even though Veronica has the hot body and curves--and Stepanie is good looking and smart---you have control because they are not accepting another date until you pick. That never happened to me---I was the guy making those flyers with the pull off tags with my phone number on them--put them in all the ladies rooms--including the faculty ladies room--and the cafeteria ladies' room--fallback insurance. Spoiler alert: My cummerbund matched my date's hair net.
  14. Why now? If we like 2 QBs, this gives us complete control to research them objectively and pick the one we want. we are not trading out...No early second round talent is worth missing out on the guy you want with such a critically important pick. I remember when the Colts had the first pick back in 1998 or so, and they (and the nation) were split between who the Alpha of the draft was --- Peyton Manning or Ryan Leaf. A month before the draft, I bet the Colts did not know. They made the right call.
  15. Then they would know we are taking Stroud and trading would not be smart--
  16. Well, if the Panthers' pick goes on to outperform Fields, then the Bears will regret this move for decades--they had the option of trading Fields, and chose not to do so. On top of that, the Bears could select a few busts with their windfall of picks....
  17. I would add this: If the Panthers liked 2 QBs in this draft, knowing that the Colts would be trading up and the Texans were going QB, moving up to #3 makes no sense. So it is possible they could be fine with either, if it means that a second round pick (#32, I think) is available--so I see it, I just do not think that 2 QBs will be even in a month--they will be developing a system, and that system will determine the type of QB they like.
  18. I would say that there is no way 2 people this different (size) would be totally even after another month of research. The ONLY way I would do this is if I was willing to take the lesser of two with the early second rounder, and if I thought it was probable that the Texans would not take the player #1 on my board.
  19. Does this help? Maybe contact Kansas City planners and not the NFL? Hope this helps....I imagine you may have seen it. https://www.visitkc.com/draft
  20. I researched some of the others, and there are better values, imo, but you could say the same about Steve Smith. But it did cross my mind and never leave it (OBJ is out there).
  21. Offensively, we have lost a lot in the pass catching ability of CMC and now Moore. That must be addressed, and I think it will. I would add this, and it probably should be its own thread (and will be if any rumors materialize) but OBJ has to be looking at Carolina as a place where he would be the Alpha #1 WR--the panthers could get him for about $16m per season, on a shorter contract. He would actually cost about $4m less than Moore and would not cost the team a draft pick. There were 11 teams at his workout, so the Panthers are competing with a third of the league, it seems. As aggressive as we are being, and as much as we need a #1 WR, I see this as a real possibility--and a draft pick at 37, possibly. Here is where I got the $16m figure: https://www.si.com/nfl/giants/news/odell-beckham-jr-has-his-workout-now-what
  22. When have they have a good passing QB? Jim Harbaugh? Jim Miller? Jim McMahon? Jim Clausen?
  23. I expect there to be growing pains, and some will be screaming "Bust!" after the first interception, but I think this is a giant first step. As you say, I think either of the top 2 QBs will be successful because they seem to demonstrate the skill set and decision-making a QB needs. We shall see.
  24. Of course. The numbers are meaningless when the players hit the field. I am holding my breath, but that is better than holding my nose, which is what I have done for 5 years.
  25. Read my other thread--when you consider the value of picks in future years, we came out on top. They may have got what they want, but the Panthers need a QB, and they will get their pick. Whether or not that pick works out is an opinion for now, but this trade has the potential to impact the Panthers more than the Bears--a QB is that important.
