  1. My thoughts: WR is about as weak as I have ever seen it. My favorite, Jaxon Smith-Njigba will be long gone. Jordan Addison will also be gone. Zay Flowers could be there--I do not see a team taking him with a first round pick--it would be a reach, imo. Jalen Hyatt--I am not so interested because I read that he is a "one trick pony" and benefited from Tennessee's scheme--He was not very productive before that. Downs is small but he is a competitor--a slot WR who would sit Shi Smith down. Very small. I am not interested in Boutte--he is a bust waiting to happen--lazy route runner, drops. I have curious interested in Mingo from Ole Miss. Not overly productive, but bigger and with good speed. Rashee Rice (SMU) is a potential day 2 pick for the Panthers, but the Panthers could probably trade back a bit and still get him. He had solid improvement in college. When I consider the immediate needs of the Panthers, I think it could be possible to wait until the third round before drafting a WR, assuming the chips don't fall as planned in round 2. Charlie Jones had over 1100 yards on 110 catches in the big 10. He is a great route runner and has excellent hands. He was in college for 6 years, so he is 24, but that maturity might be what is needed right now. The more I read about him, the more I see him as a sleeper, even though he was All-American. If Dalton Kincaid were to fall to us in round 2, you have to take him. He would be as much of a receiving threat as any of the WRs left on the board, and he would play in the slot or even out wide at times. If I took Kincaid in the second, I would go after Jones in the third. So my "realistic" Day 2 Big board 1. Pick 39-Dalton Kincaid (TE, sorta) If he somehow drops to 39, you take him. 2. Pick 39-Zay Flowers WR. I would say that there is a legitimate reason to suspect that he will be there, but his value has been rising. 3. Pick 39- Josh Downs WR. He is a gamer, undersized etc. but he brings it every play. Depending on if the Panthers feel they need a slot at the time. 4. Pick 39-Jalen Hyatt WR. Ate Bama alive, but some say that he (like his QB) are "products of the system" so you can't use his stats to rate him. I am not that high on him at this time. 5. Trade back in round 2--Rashee Rice. I think he will become an excellent pro. If we took him at 39, I would get it. 6. Trade back in round 2--Jonathan Mingo. 6'2", 220. Reminds me of Moose. 7. Round 3--Charlie Jones. He has good speed, a polished route runner, good hands, and was very productive in his sixth year of college football. He is 24+, and could be ready to play right now.
  2. On my board, I had Flowers going in the first round---lotta buzz about him.
  3. OK, let's say we signed Chark. Let's say we drafted Jalin Hyatt, Tennessee WR at #39 (or Josh Downs--depends on the type we need.) That gives us: #1 WR: DJ Chark #2 WR: Terrace Marshall Jr. #3 WR: Jalin Hyatt #4 WR: Laviska Shenault #5 WR: Shi Smith #6 WR: Derek Wright I expect improvement from Marshall, Shenault (used better), and Shi Smith.
  4. We can help. I will start a thread titled, "Talking Proudiddy off the ledge" because I am that kind of guy. There will be a poll (nothing complex, just "jump!" or "don't jump"). Here for you.
  5. Seriously--that is Schefty's life--if it gets out that sources can't trust him--whether deserved or not--it could hurt his credibility
  6. Yes, but with the Saints, they spent a huge percentage of their cap on their Center and Guards--more that the tackles if memory serves me. Remember when they had Evans and Warford and Ramcyk and some all pro center? This article demonstrates the problem with Brees when things up front went bad: https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2266260-poor-play-at-guard-center-is-making-life-difficult-for-saints-qb-drew-brees
  7. The headline "Young now the favorite" is simply not what Ian said, and it is not factually accurate.
  8. He does seem to have that "it" factor, the kind of person who can handle the ups and downs with class. But every time I give Young a compliment, I turn around and say just about the same thing about Stroud. I'd like to say that we can't go wrong with either.
  9. Yep. Lotta people will get mad because the Panthers did not pick their guy, but I trust this staff and think there are 2 top QBs in this draft. I will embrace either, even though I have my preference.
  10. I throw stuff out there and everyone's feedback helps me find my blind spots. I would actually make some changes now--so I appreciate the feedback.
  11. If you read that article in the Panthers.com, the Georgia Players seem to heap the most praise on Stroud--and they should know. They talked about Young's personality--and I think he is probably a great guy--but they described Stroud as calm, unflappable, accurate. What else do you want in an NFL QB?
  12. Right--if we take Young, we have to maintain an offensive line like the Eagles this year, the Saints of the Brees years--he cannot run, he needs to check down or throw it away. He can move within the pocket (Brees was the best I have ever seen at that) but he cannot take a hit. Young may have the best intro into the NFL, but I just see Stroud as having the most successful, longest career. Fun stuff to analyze.
  13. I am confused. I go by one rule, and it requires being honest with myself: I SUCK at picking QBs transitioning from college to the NFL---I am terrible at it.
  14. Just pulled this: (found it interesting that Richardson is not in top 10)https://www.oddschecker.com/us/football/nfl-specials/nfl-draft/first-pick
  15. I have shared my position on Smitty being a bad teammate--how he abused Dwayne Jarrett at OTAs, etc. Some players make those around them better, some make them worse. If you have played competitive sports beyond high school, you probably see how this can happen. Bold Statement: I think one of our PS WRs will emerge this season. Derek Wright is my prediction to become a part of the WR team. Last year, in limited preseason action, he was targeted 7 times and caught 5 passes. He had 84 yards and averaged nearly 17 yards per catch. He has excellent hands, ran a 4.55 40 in college, and is 6' 1" and just under 200 lbs. As the fifth or sixth WR, I can see him having a good camp and preseason--and with the opportunities at WR on this roster, he could stick.
  16. I think you are right---they are desperate this year because the draft was so bad last year. We should have taken Fields.
  17. They have all this time on NFL network dedicated to the draft. Aside from the 50% of the time being given to the Aaron Rodgers "Moses" act, they have to say something. I was very strong Stroud 2 weeks ago--now I am tossing a coin.
  18. If the Panthers made this trade for Bryce Young after the combine, then I doubt they change their minds after his pro day. Young is much better than Jones. There was a comment made by Reich (I think) that (to me) is the biggest tell. He called the QB a "point guard" which is probably the best way to describe Patrick Mahomes. The QB who most closely draws that comparison in this draft is Bryce Young. I see Young, and I see Stroud. It all depends on what you are going to ask the QB to do.
  19. I do not see it, but it is possible. I did not know where to use him--figured an inside pass rusher on passing downs.
  20. Luvu Probably will start over Haynes, but I wondered if they would not use him as a LB---YGM needs to be traded if possible. I could be a third down specialist to rush from the 5t, but that is speculation.
  21. that bothers me a lot. I wondered about Luvu, and Smith is of decent size--just raw.
  22. Yes, if we lose a T, we'd have to pull BC outside and probably put Cade Mays at LG. Sorta like we did Travelle Wharton, but I think that puts you at a disadvantage because you have 1 injury and get weaker at 2 positions.
  23. To help myself comprehend and understand the roster, I always develop a depth chart to help me see the roster. It may seem weak in some areas, for example, as of now, our starting LG is also our swing T. Not sure how they will use Luvu or Chinn, but I guess. So here are my takes--feel free to view and modify. OFFENSE Left tackle Left Guard Center Right Guard Right Tackle Ekwonu Christensen Bozeman Corbett Moton (BC) Mays Tecklenburg Brown (PS) Wide Receiver Tight End Quarterback Running Back Fullback/Hback Hurst Sanders (Ricci) Marshall Thomas Dalton Hubbard Tremble Eason (PS) Blackshear Shenault Ricci Corral (PS) Brown (PS) Smith Sullivan (PS) Wright (PS) Saunders 29/25 Roster spots (including colored blanks—will need to cut 4 from this list—2 QBs, 1 RB, 1 WR, 1 TE DEFENSE Edge /OLB Defensive End Nose Tackle Defensive End Edge/OLB Burns Williams Tuttle Brown Haynes Luvu McCall Gross-Matos Barno Roy (PS or cut) Cornerback Linebacker Linebacker Cornerback Horn Chinn Thompson Jackson Taylor Smith Henderson (Luvu?)
