Panthers ranked as NFL's 2nd-worst roster
Jon Snow replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
I've been saying for years that this teams roster was ass. But homer's gonna homer. -
I wish I can remember who the commentator was the said what the results were back then. They never show qbs actually doing it and they all do not do it at the same time. I'm not sure why it was brought up anyway but I found it interesting that they were that close. But of those things really matter to you I'm sure you can find it somewhere.
-
Well I certainly saw it and heard it during the broadcast. I sat through the entire live broadcast that day and when I heard his velocity I was actually shocked it was in the mid 50's. He could have had it measured somewhere else for all I know. Anyway, whatever it was its not far less because that was a concern of mine as well.
-
It's where they measure the release velocity. Someone posted a snapshot from CJ's. Just look up the results if it concerns you. They just mentioned the top 4 guys velocity results. What I heard there wasn't a lot of difference in the 4. The screen capture showed CJ's so the other 3 did it some point while there. They gave out Young's so he had to do it at some point. I should have said same conditions. They stand at the same line and throw to the same spot.

Losing the Chicago game was the final nail in Frank's coffin. If there was any game he had to win it was that game. You saw what happened.
-
Frank chose him out of all of his options. His reasoning was for a point guard or the short passing attack style of offense. He only wanted to play at a short to mid level attack. Why? He said that he wanted to keep Young in the "neighborhood" and not out there on the highway. I took that to mean he was limiting the plays. He also didn't want to work on fundamental issues with his qb. What the hell is that all about? He knew what he was working with and made his choices as to how to develop him. If he wanted a more open passing game he should have implemented it and worked on Youngs timing and footwork. Frank obviously didn't. Frank was a fossil and should have never been the one hired to develop a rookie, whether it was Young or someone else.
-
Every team builds an offense to best fit its players. You don't think that CJ had an offense designed to suit his strengths? Regardless of what you think of Young he's not being treated any different than any other rookie qb. Well except for last season. I do not know what the hell Frank was doing but he sure wasn't helping his rookie qb.

Bryan Burns fans need to watch this.
-
I don't need someone to tell me how hard Brown plays and how valuable he is to this team. All you have to do is watch him play. But I'll see what this guy has to say anyway.
-
Did you see that on the broadcast? They showed a brief snippet and posted the speeds. Like I said, Youngs wasn't much slower. If I remember correctly it was 52, 53 or more. I didn't lose sleep over it.
-
I'm not arguing any of that. All I know is what was posted for their measured ball velocity in a controlled environment.
-
Their velocity isn't measured during the televised throwing period. It's done separately somewhere else. The posted velocity is the official combine measurement. Argue with them.
-
When they measure velocity they base it on an average of 3 throws, I think, could be 5. Each qb decides how he throws it. It's not taken from passes in a game. So basing on an "eye test" takes out bias. It's measured by a radar gun in a controlled environment.
-
It's apparent that many have not looked at his test results. I paid very close attention to those measurable before the draft. Even though he didn't throw before the camera at the combine he did throw to measure his velocity and it was only 2 mph less than CJ's. Of course AR had the strongest arm but only beat CJ by 1 mph. So it's not a velocity issue. I hate that i have to come to the guys defense but if people are going to make bold statements at least get the facts straight.
-
There's only about 5 or 6 elite qbs in the league. Finding one is pure luck.
-
Well he's not as strong as the other guys drafted in his draft but has not as weak as being let on. I think the difference in his velocity compared to his piers in the draft was only a couple of mph. Nothing earth shattering to say the least.
-
You don't know that either. Everyone assumes that what it means. Just because that was Frank's plan doesn't mean that is what Dave will do. It could be but I would not assume that.
-
He better come up with something better than that. If not he may not be around long enough to draft his own qb.
-
If he knew that then why did he not stand up to Fitterer before he came out a said who he was taking? It's hard for me to accept that Frank knew that and kept his mouth shut behind closed doors. It's hard for me to accept that Tepper would have forced the situation knowing the coach he just hired was not on board. If he did do that then he cannot blame Frank other than if Frank just revolted and said screw it and deliberately sabatoged the season and Young just because he didn't get his way. No, Frank was on board. He just couldn't pull it off. The all-stat staff was just name recognition only. There wasn't much to that bs. Frank's downfall was his own making.

I doubt the later happens myself but I'm not about to say it can't happen. It's unlikely but anythingpossible. I doubt it will be reminiscent of the Texans turn around last season for a number of reasons. If that is your expectation then you will be disappointed. I honestly don't know what to expect. There's been a lot of turnover and for good reason. There's a lot of new moving parts that have to click. Dave has to prove he knows how to coach and design a successful offense. Really all I'm hoping for is a better showing than what we've seen so far. I will evaluate the moving parts as the season progresses and I would advise everyone else to do the same.
-
I really don't know what it's going to look like. If you are expecting Young to carry the offense then you will probably be disappointed. The plan according to what Canales has said is to have a balanced offense. What that is going to look like I don't think anyone but a select few know right now. I just hope it's not reminiscent of the garbage we saw last season. It has to be better right, right?
-
You don't know that. His goal is to make him play to the best of his abilities. That is what he's said all along. Whether it helps to win games has yet to be seen. Canales has to also build a team and offense good enough to win no matter who's behind center. If he can do that he will be around to get whoever he feels is better to run it. He's not tied to Young but he still has to build a complete team and offense.
-
Canales will get the chance to establish an offense around what strengths he thinks Bryce has. He's obligated, or directed to do that this season. If it looks bad this season then Morgan will have to decide if Dave gave it an honest attempt before he gets the chance to do it around the qb of his choosing. That's how I see this all playing out.
-
They were not blindsided by anything. They knew everything about all of those qb's. To say he was blindsided is just ridiculous. He spent all his time before the draft reviewing tape on all of them. Met in-person with all of them and had them in for workouts. How on earth would he not know what Young could or could not do? No, he knew what he was getting. He just couldn't build an offense around what he had. That is on him.
