Getting Crunch Time for the Panthers and Brian Burns
Jon Snow replied to 45catfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
I completely agree. The tag is too risky for this team. Fitterer really screwed this team up while he was here. Now the team is forced to negotiate a contract for someone else if they even hope to trade him. I just hope there are teams out there that by into the hype and take him off our hands. I just fear the team is blinded by their own overestimated evaluation of him and give him a massive contract that he will never live up to. -

Letting Pep go was another dumbass decision this team made. But that's on Richardson and his pet monkey Marty. The one time this team should have paid up but didn't. Marty was notorious for bonehead decisions. I hope one day this team will learn who deserves another contract and who doesn't. Until then they will struggle to field a competitive team and mismanage their salary allocation with mediocre players hyping them up like they are something special. -
Locked on Panthers: Why the Panthers should pay Derrick Brown
Jon Snow replied to jayboogieman's topic in Carolina Panthers
That would be the dumbest thing they could possibly do. Which is what they will do. -

They had the opportunity to do that with Burns last year. But we do what we do, piss it away. Only thing left to do now is start the search for a trade partner before the deadline. But it appears that against all reason and logical they are still trying to get a deal done to keep him. Same crap different season. -
My last word on Burns. If the team signs him, whether it's a good deal or not, they better get Brown extended asap and draft the best DL player they have a chance at. Until then you will continue to see they same thing out of Burns. The defensive tackles will have to serve the qb up to him by pushing the pocket back in his face and forcing the qb out of the pocket. If they don't do that it will be wasted money.

Sorry about derailing this thread @Verge

That's what the Bears wanted. It was reported somewhere. But Huston wasn't having it. So Fitterer and Tepper decided to go all in. After that Frank had to justify not taking Young. Who were they targeting at pick 3 we will never know. It would have been the 2nd qb off the board that's for sure.

I keep thinking back to the original plan right after Reich was hired. They admitted that they had a deal worked out to trade up to 3. Who's idea was it? Who knows. Then shortly after that rumor was it was now with Chicago for the 2nd pick who supposedly was going to trade with Huston for the number 1 pick. Then turn around and trade is for the 2nd pick. Then when Huston didn't want to be played like that Chicago suckered us into trading up. My guess is that is when the qb decision was taken out of Frank's hands by Fitterer. I also think that is why it turned in a 12 person selection committee instead of getting the 2nd choice of whoever they had their mind on in the first place. That's why it took so long for Frank to surrender to the masses of people telling him to go with the popular choice among the staff and everyone else. It's also why he dgaf about anything else after that.

Getting Crunch Time for the Panthers and Brian Burns

The only one to put pressure on the qb from our DL is Derek Brown. Just watch the tape. When Brown get pressure after being double Burns benefits and gets some pressure or a sack. When the qb can step up in the pocket Burns just runs right by with 0 impact. Brown is who team's worry about. If they need to run they run at Burns because he's always out of position or easy to block. I just don't see what others see in the guy. -

So you want to pay him so he stays invisible here. Nah man, we have done that our whole existence. We have always paid big money to the wrong players. Burns is not a player you hand out top 10 DE money for. Trust me, he will not be missed. -
I'm not so sure. But someone was going to take a shot at him in the top 10. It just so happens it was us and we traded up to do it.
-
I still don't believe Huston wanted Young. Huston was taking the 1st qb to fall to them. The Bears only had interest from Huston and us for the 1st pick. If we hadn't been snooping around I bet Huston stays put at 2 and takes whoever they wanted. The Bears surely were not drafting a qb. So either Young or Stroud are taken 1st at 2 and the other goes to Indy. We most likely get Richardson, but it's possible we still have Young on the board at 9. We will never know now of course.

So? How many of those sacks had an impact on the outcome of the game? 0. That is his impact on the game. Matches his jersey number. Brown is who teams scheme against. He's double teamed on every play he's on the field. Which is about 90% of the snaps. -

He's MIA now! Some jag off the street can replace that. You can find 2 guys for $10M per to rotate in and out during the game that would replace what he brings, probably get better on top of that. -
It seems to me that if you want to properly evaluate a qb you must put him behind an OL that can hold a block for more than 2 seconds. That would be my priority over anything else at this point. Because when the OL is getting beat like a drum then the entire offense is screwed. Without fixing that it doesn't matter how many weapons you give him if he doesn't have time to read the field and step up in the pocket to make the throw. But what do I know.

Shop him and if you get no takers you have no choice but to let him walk. He's overpaid as it is. I would take a ham sandwich for him at this point. Watch the tap, it ain't pretty. -
Exactly. Only 3 teams in the top 10 were taking a qb. We were one of the 3. We did NOT need to trade up for a qb. It was stupid then and in hindsight looks idiotic based on what was given and who they chose in return.

Burns is never double teamed or schemed around. He just isn't what his fans pretend he is. But this team is so desperate to have a "name" to pretend that is elite that they will overpay an underachieving player to say they are the franchise edge rusher. He's just a jag and will never be more than he is right now. -
Neither were taking a qb. Only the Panthers were dumb enough to trade up.
-
Had we not traded up only 2 qbs would have gone before the 9th pick. Only Huston and Indy were taking qbs before us. That is a fact no one can dispute. In hindsight the 2 that would been available to us would have been 2 of those 3.
-
My theory was that one of the 4 qbs would have been there at our pick at 9. It would have been Richardson, Levis or Young IMO. We didn't have to trade up to get a qb and it proved to be exactly that way.

So which one of you hillbillies is Forrest Quinn?

Burns is not too important nor valuable to let walk. That is utterly ridiculous. The Panthers missed the golden goose when they passed on that trade.
