Well bitching about this draft is premature. No prospect has played a down in the nfl yet and you will not know how any of them will do until they have played a full season or two. It just the way it goes for the majority of draft picks. Most take time to adjust. A few show something right away but that doesn't mean they will stay that way.

I laughed just as I am now. It is what it is. The draft is a crap shoot and no 2 teams boards are the same. None follow the draftniks rankings. So thinking it was good or bad will only show itself after a season or two.

I know it’s earlt but Dan THE MAN Morgan is IMPRESSING me

Fitterer was going to trade up sooner for Johnson had Dan not been able to convince him to wait. Fitterer panicked like you said and jumped because the edge run scared him. Fitterer always panicked. -
Panthers Select Jonathan Brooks RB - 46th Pick, Round 2
Jon Snow replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
I don't think that is much of a knock other than he may not see action right away. The talent is undeniable so it's all good. We weren't the only team going to take him where he was selected you know. They jumped Dallas, who wanted him badly and the Giants who were going to screw Dallas and take him also. So the concern over the injury was not really a concern after all. I'm good with it. -

He will play this season. He may be limited the 1st few games but I would almost guarantee you he will see action this season. -

How do you figure he will redshirt for a year? All indications are he will be ready for training camp. -
These rookies have a lot of learning to do before you can have them taking the majority of the snaps. They will be eased in as the season goes on. If they perform then the snaps will increase.

Who are the day 3 prospects you want to see us target?

I think in the end Wallace will be just as good as Wilson. He can contribute in rotation and in special teams this season until he adjusts the the pro game. -

Not really. Teams are always looking at upside when they select a player. That's just art of the process. I think the issue is who you think can start right away and who will need more coaching before the can be a full time starter. Some are forced to start out of necessity. Does that mean he is good enough to start on any team or just that the talent is so poor on his current team that he is just the best of a bad group? In our case it is most likely the later. In that situation what do you do? It's hard to judge who is better now but will not be when someone else gets up to speed. That is where the gambling kicks in. -
Most rookies will not "start" in their 1st season. They almost always play in a rotation until the get their feet under them and learn all the play calls and responsibilities. It's a process. I know, I hate that term also but it's accurate in this case.

To me it seems they were focusing on getting their guy. Which to me indicates they already had the positions they selected already determined. Now why that was I cannot ascertain at this point in time. Sometimes it is based on availability in the talent pool at the position of need. Sometimes it's because they have blinders on for a certain player. Whatever the reason that pick has to contribute at some point to be worth the selection. I think the 1st 3 picks will contribute this season in some form. 2 may actually start by the end of the season. If that happens it will be a good draft. It's about all you can expect with not having a 1st round pick. If they somehow get a contributer today I would call it a decent draft until I see how it pans out at the end of the season. -

Well I for one see a different approach in this draft. Will it have better results? Only time will tell. -

They weren't going to be that competitive this year no matter who they drafted. It's acknowledging the reality of the situation and doing what can be done now to help going forward. Anything left unaddressed this season will be next offseason. This team was the worst team in the league for a reason. It's going to take a while to fix it. It is what it is. -
Prepare for more bitching and complaining.

They 1st 3 picks will contribute this season. When they get to "start" is up to how they perform on the field.

Every team says they drafted BPA. I suppose it was BPA on their draft board. I would love to have a snapshot of it to review in a couple of years. Then we can evaluate their scouting and evaluation prowess.

Who are the day 3 prospects you want to see us target?
Jon Snow replied to Ricky Spanish's topic in Carolina Panthers
I'm not complaining about who they chose to draft and at what position....yet. What does confuse me is what positions they decided to focus on. I was never a fan of locking in on specific players in the draft. That's what FA and the waiver wire are for. The draft should be, to me at least, letting the best available come to you. Selecting the best regardless of position, within reason that is. But when teams fall in love with a specific player they panic and start moving around in the draft to make sure they get "their guy". Which usually doesn't work out. I always get nervous when I hear "our guy" because it means they already have blinders on beforeit even starts. -

Corbett got beat like a drum regularly as a guard before he got injured. So much so they went out a got the best FA guard available to replace him. So now, instead of putting him on the bench or on the street they are converting him to starting center. An underperforming guard coming off 2 season ending knee injuries will now be the starting center. How the hell does that sound like a wise decision? -

Oh I agree, they missed out on starting centers in the draft. Let's hope plan A miraculously works. -

They will. They have to have a camp arm. -

I would feel a lot more comfortable if they had a better plan B in place at the position myself. I'm just as confident in Colberts ability and availability for an entire season at the position as the team. -
Panthers Select Trevin Wallace LB - Pick 72, Round 3
Jon Snow replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
It appears to me that Wallace may not be quite as good as Wilson but he had well known coaches that know LB talent when they see it. Wilson may go on to have a HOF career and everyone but the Steelers will regret it. But that can happen with any pick. Wallace is no slouch and could do the same himself. I think we will survive either way.
