It’s a common phenomenon for players to look and even be elite in college but they simply don’t have the tools for the pro game. Reggie Bush, Vince Young, tons of even better examples of this. I’m not saying Fields can’t throw a football, he just can’t throw it nearly as well as Stroud. He isn’t remotely as developed. I watched the Clemson game, he is capable of making college throws, but Stroud was making NFL throws in college. Stroud was throwing his receivers open while Fields was throwing to open receivers. Part of the reason Harrison gets so much hype is because Stroud makes the kind of throws that aren’t just gimmes, over fingertips with touch, before the breaks with anticipation, down a sideline requiring a top tap where only the receiver can make the play, and Harrison makes the play on them. If you can’t see the difference between Fields’ game and Stroud’s then I don’t know what to tell you. There’s a huge gap that goes far beyond stats and team accomplishments.

You’re quoting team stats. I’m talking about how they played themselves. I watched every throw Fields made that was on YouTube as well as Stroud, not just highlights. I saw him look at a second read fewer times than fingers on one hand. He didn’t throw with anticipation, he didn’t throw with touch, he didn’t throw with great placement. He didn’t do the things Stroud does.

Maybe. Maybe they draft Young and Houston really wanted Young so they trade down and we can get Stroud. Far fetched, I know. Even in that case, I’d probably rather Richardson or Levis than spending #9 on Fields. I didn’t like him in that draft and he hasn’t shown any improvement since, whether that’s the fault of the team around him or not the point remains he hasn’t shown he can be a good passer. He might have had stats in college but he didn’t pass the eye test, he didn’t read the field and he didn’t throw with anticipation or particularly good accuracy. All he showed was that he could throw it in the vicinity of his receivers. Need more than that in the NFL. That’s why I’m so high on Stroud, he did show all those things in college. Reading the field, ball placement, anticipation.

I’ve watched him some in the NFL, and I watched him at OSU extensively. Wasn’t overly impressed then, nothing has changed that. Not judging him til he gets some weapons is a fair idea, however I don’t want to risk the cost to get him when he has two years of tape and still unable to make a judgement. If he was a FA? Sure. But I’d MUCH rather go hard after Stroud, who in the same situation at OSU looked MUCH better.

Would much prefer Stroud or Young. Would slightly prefer Richardson or Levis. Would take Fields if none of those were available, but would rather give them a couple 2nds than #9.

First reaction is nah. Would have to do more in-depth research to find out what I’d think of it though, go and watch all his throws. I haven’t seen anything impressive outside of his legs so far, though.

Eh it happens. I do really like Stroud, and if we were given the option of taking any of the listed QBs at the same price, the only ones I’d take Stroud over would be Young or Tua, just because the others have actually proven it. But in a stakes free guessing game, I think Stroud will be the best of them.

Who did that? First thing I said was there’s no way to know for now, but if I’m projecting based on what knowledge we do have, I like him better than the others on the list. Didn’t say anything about HoF bound, no one on that list is yet. Only youngish QB in the NFL that can say that is Mahommes.

Well, it’s a team game. Burrow didn’t beat anyone. The Bengals might be the only team to beat the Chiefs and Bulls in the playoffs, but that doesn’t mean Allen isn’t a better QB. And I’d only say he’s very slightly better. Burrow has a lot more help than Allen does.

No one has anything solid to back up any such projections. I’m just thinking of how they each looked in college and how I thought that would translate to the NFL. For example, I was very high on Josh Allen when he was in the draft but we didn’t need a QB at that time. Stroud has shown far more than any of these guys did in college except maybe Burrow, and Stroud still has the advantage over Burrow in the touch and accuracy.

if I’m projecting out a couple years, I’d put Stroud between Burrow and Herbert and Young between Jackson and Hurts. If I’m projecting full career, Stroud at the top, Young between Herbert and Jackson

It’s also shown that they’re almost always wrong. The only legit one I can remember was Josh Rosen.

It was because of Ron we were consistently mediocre.

With as weak as the south is right now I think if we nail the QB choice we’ll have six wins easy there and should be able to get 4+ outside the division. We’re on the ascent while the other three teams are on the way down. Even with poor coaching and mediocre QB play at best we were really close to winning the South last year and 4-2 in the division. Shoulda been 5-1 if not for refs not understanding what the field of play is.

The way Bradberry had his arm around him and grabbed him made it look worse than it was. I don’t think he affected the receiver at all and it was a bad call, but it wasn’t nearly as egregious as many calls in this game and previous super bowls

That was absolutely a BS call. It’s still just one for the Chiefs and a lot more for the Eagles. More critical moment of the game though. Reinforces my belief that refs shouldn’t be on the field, just one to announce calls but a group of people in a booth watching video of every angle.

Yea, I mean rings are one thing, it’s a team game. If I’m taking either at the start of their career I’m taking Mahommes every time. He’s just incredible.

Yea if the OL is close enough to immediately take the head off a DB, it’s an illegal man downfield unless the play was at the LoS…lotta little things like that going one way tonight.
