A slightly different way to look at it, here are my tiers for options. If you have different options to include, throw them in. I’m not including specific caveats for “if we can do it for this amount then this tier, if that amount then that tier”, just slotting then based on what the expected cost would be. #1 choice - Trade up for Stroud (roughly three 1sts and change probably) I’d be really happy - Trade up for Young (slightly less than for Stroud, maybe two 1sts and small change) - Trade back 9 a few spots, 12-15 range and take Richardson or Levis and sign Derek Carr to be the starter for a couple years I’d be ok with it - Sign Derek Carr with the plan to make him the permanent starter and either take Q. Johnston at 9 or trade back into the late teens and take the Notre Dame TE. I’m more ok with Carr as the long term option than Fields or Jackson for example primarily because of the cost. Would cost us no draft picks and we could continue to build the team around him, plus it’s not like he’s old and he is a good QB unlike the other retreads we’ve attempted. - Stay at 9 and take Levis or Richardson, throw them into the fire. We’re pretty good at OL and weapons, it wouldn’t be a David Carr situation. Spend our 2nds on a TE and maybe a third WR to make it an even easier transition. I wouldn’t like it, but I’ll wait and see - Trade #9 for Fields. Ugh, too much for a guy that isn’t a very good passer but he’s so young and our staff is so good maybe they can fix him. He is a dynamic player and hasn’t gotten a fair shake so far. Also wouldn’t take away from future draft picks so we could continue to build around him and he’s still on a rookie contract so if he just doesn’t work out then in two years we can take another swing at QB. I’d hate it - Trade for Jackson. Would take two+ 1sts AND a huge contract, so too expensive and handcuffs the future of the team. Probably injury prone, so all those picks and cap space could very likely ended up totally wasted on a guy sitting on the trainers table rather than playing. Yea he’s a former MVP, but he’s still just a good passer not a great one.

This video is two weeks old, I just happened across it just now. Some decent stuff though. They point out stuff we already have discussed here, but one thing that stuck out to me was when Chris Simms said that he’s heard some things from within the Colts organization that the QBs they cycled through weren’t exactly Reich’s preferences. One thing that made me roll my eyes was when they were assuming we’re switching straight to a 3-4 and how rough that’s going to be.

Price to move into top 3 based on past trades.

I know most are expecting it to cost more than this, but Titans gave up two firsts, two seconds and a third basically to go from FIFTEEN to 1. Surely 9 to 1 would be no more than that and I’d give that to get Stroud in a heartbeat. But we will be bidding against others so you never know. -
I never thought I could get so excited about a coaching staff. I was lukewarm about Reich at first, wanted Ben Johnson but was fine with Reich when he decided not to leave Detroit, but the sum total of what he’s put together so far is incredibly impressive.

Interesting twist regarding Lamar Jackson...
JawnyBlaze replied to Proudiddy's topic in Carolina Panthers
If some of the speculation is true, he’s turning down 133, not 250, because he knows he won’t stay healthy enough to collect the full value. It’s actually smart of him, even if he takes a lower total value deal elsewhere, if he can get most or all of it guaranteed that’s more money he actually gets. I bet he’d sign today for 200 fully guaranteed even though that’s less than Watson. -

I’d say Stroud has less chance of flopping than Jackson does of missing significant time with injuries. -

Nah. If we could sign him as a FA and just have to throw a ton of money at him, sure. But no to a ton of money + losing two 1sts -
I’d guess two 1sts and our 2nd. Maybe two 2nds
-
My ideal realistic scenario is the Bears stay at 1 and take their defensive player, Houston takes Young and we trade up with Cards at 3 to take Stroud.

Could Lamar be going to our division rival?
JawnyBlaze replied to ncfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
What Scot said. Our D is young and fast. We held him in check with a coach and DC that aren’t good at defense. I’m not too worried about him with a couple good (not great) weapons in London and Pitts. -
Shame that last pick doesnt play RB or DB so he could wear #22 lol
-
Stroud and Mayer? That’s definitely a dream scenario. I wouldn’t even care about the rest of the draft after that lol

Jackson isn’t that difficult to defend, I hope he does go to Atlanta and costs them a bunch of picks. And Richardson #1 lol I could only dream. Stroud wouldn’t last to 8 in that scenario, surely we’d trade up no later than 5 if he were still there -
would you be opposed to moving back up for Bijan Robinson?
JawnyBlaze replied to micnificent28's topic in Carolina Panthers
Eh I dunno. I’d rather move back up for a TE. There’s some really good ones this year. -
Yea, I’m just saying it probably would have taken #9, our second this year and all the Rams picks. Maybe more.
-
The Ram’s first next year is worth a second, so we’d be offering a first and three seconds in value. Not nearly enough
-
I mean, maybe a 1st, 2nd and Burns. It’s not probably going to be an exact value of what Burns could get is in a trade for picks. Besides, the Burns trade was two future firsts, so he was worth two seconds and a third if we’re talking “value” for trading up for a player this year.
-
I’d guess two firsts and Burns is what it would actually take
-
If anyone ever thought of Fields higher than Stroud they have no business having opinions on QB prospects. Stroud is being seriously talked about at #1, Fields never was.
-
Spend whatever we need to for CJ. Next year and the year after and the year after, Maye, Williams, they’ll all lose their luster when they’re actually draftable. CJ is the best prospect in a long time and probably for the foreseeable future.

Our first round QB track record is pretty good…

Would you trade 9 for Fields - straight up?
JawnyBlaze replied to musicman's topic in Carolina Panthers
For sure, and I agree he has a beautiful deep ball. And I said I’d be ok trading a couple seconds for him. Spending #9 would be kinda tough tbh. Now if I’m choosing between spending two seconds on Fields with his rookie contract or spending $30+mil on Derek Carr, I’d probably go with Fields since he’s younger and could still develop. I like Carr but he’s on the back end of his career.
