Assuming that the other option is a highly qualified guy, then the other guy. Time to bring our coaching staff into the 21st century.

What DJ Moore did was FLAG WORTHY but this WASN'T?????
JawnyBlaze replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
The Moore play wasn’t a penalty according to the rule book. The Jeudy play was. Refs are incredibly fallible is all it boils down to. Subconscious (or arguably conscious at times) biases factor into that, simple mistakes, all strong reasons why refs should be as removed from the game as possible. “The human element” of officiating a game spoils the product. -
(Fwiw I think those EPA/play numbers are supposed to factor in quality of opponent as well)

Yea the Bengals game was an embarrassment but that’s included in the calculation. The defense really is that good. It’s stacked with really good to great players. It’s so good that it’s still the best within these parameters even factoring in a few shitty performances. They’ve still got some room to grow, and part of those good performances is how weak our schedule has been this year, but to have a defense as young as ours is and performing at the level they are, the future is bright.

What Wilks needs to do to win the Job?
JawnyBlaze replied to Doc Holiday's topic in Carolina Panthers
To outright take the job without any competition? Win the Super Bowl. To be the favorite but kick the tires on a couple others? Win a playoff game. Be legitimately considered for the job? Make the playoffs. -
Florio is a complete idiot that just parrots narratives with know knowledge or insight of his own. This team is a QB and coaching away from being a contender. Sure, we don’t have a good TE but there’s only a few of those in the league at all. Most teams don’t have a good TE and it’s not a critical piece anyway. Our WR group is good, our RB group is good, our OL is elite, our DL is really good, our LBs are average, our CBS are really good with one elite guy that’s at least top 5 in the league and we have two good Safeties. We can definitely bolster some areas like LB, another upper tier WR and pass rusher, but we are above average everywhere except LB and QB. What we need most is coaching, which is why Tepper said if Wilks does great then he’s a contender. If he doesn’t, we need someone that can properly utilize this roster that’s already good enough outside of QB

Gd I hope we don’t see winning against our cupcake back half schedule as some great accomplishment that should be rewarded with a long term contract. The only decent teams we could possibly beat are a Lions team that is just ok and a Seattle team that we just ran through like melted butter. We just out bullied them. The only hope we have if we sign Wilks long term is some rock star OC that will be quickly hired away for a HC job anyway.

Can Tepper find anyone better than Wilks?
JawnyBlaze replied to Saca312's topic in Carolina Panthers
One mistake at HC doesn’t mean he’s incapable of finding one next time. And we weren’t the only team very interested in Rhule, unfortunately he is a much better conman than coach. -
What does Steve Wilks do better than Ron Rivera?
JawnyBlaze replied to Sean Payton's Vicodin's topic in Carolina Panthers
All I see is that he’s not as stubborn about personnel. Rivera woulda held onto CMC and kept running him into a wall every week. And if Fitterer got rid of CMC anyway, there’s no way Blackshear would be getting the opportunities he’s getting under Rivera. Bozeman would still be on the bench. Etc. -
Are you In favor of bring back Laviska Shenault next season?
JawnyBlaze replied to micnificent28's topic in Carolina Panthers
Absolutely. I’m interested to see what he can do with a better OC and QB. He never gets any plays except that exact same swing pass every time. We need to use him in the crossing game, we should be able to get the ball in his hands with momentum…past the line of scrimmage -
Yea I’ll allow for the possibility he’s a tiny bit better than Rivera, but I don’t want anyone remotely close to that. I’d rather take another wild swing and miss and try again in three years than 9 years of Rivera ball, especially since we’re not likely to luck into another Cam + Luke and some of the other greats we had that dragged that inept coach to a respectable record occasionally
-
It was a dumpster fire with some really good talent on the team. We have good players outside of QB, and having such a good OL is the only reason Wilks is able to do decently like he has. Many coaches could have come in and gone .500 with the talent on this team, imo
-
QB by a HUGE margin, then TE, WR, LB, DE
-
Uh I’ll give him credit for doing a decent job but it’s not like he’s setting the league on fire. He should get an interview but not serious consideration. As others have said he’s just Rivera with a different name. That’s the worst thing we could do.
-
Gd our OL are bullies. So nice to be able to say that again
-
Also wanna point out Geno took his helmet off while still on the field…
-
Horn is a dawg. Even if that doesn’t stand that was a helluva cut
-
I really like Blackshear. Shows really good vision and patience for a rookie
-
Wow that RT moved a full second before the snap
-
Well I’ll admit that looks different than I remember. I’d be curious who those four wins in a row were, if we had a run of pushovers after the bye that paints a slightly different picture. But in general I never saw one iota of growth or improvement from Rivera in any aspect of the game except in 15 when he learned to back off and let Cam run the show on offense. Then he regressed back into his old ways the next year. So that’s why I might have been misremembering the bye week ineptitude
-
Helluva throw and catch there
-
Nah, he was always terrible at it
-
My problem isn’t running it, it’s Hubbard running it. Shoulda been Blackshear like earlier in the drive.
-
Who’s the idiot that decided Hubbard is the 3rd down back? He made that simple 1 yard catch look hard and a run by him on 3rd and 8 is destined for failure
