Round 1 - The Carolina Panthers Select Bryce Young - QB - Alabama
JawnyBlaze replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
He’s ours now. All aboard the train! Official Bryce Bro now -
Nah. Corral is that shot in the dark backup. Didn’t play last year and it’s a new system anyway so same blank slate as a second QB in this draft.

Agree with your best and two runners up

The history made might be the first time ever Mel kiper gets our pick right

Panthers might not be picking at #1

Knowing how Fitterer likes to maneuver the draft
JawnyBlaze replied to byob1013's topic in Carolina Panthers
Honestly, I’d rather have 39, depending on who is there. If the guys I had my eye on are gone then sure trade back. But I’d be willing to bet there’s someone at 39 that our FO has a first round grade on. edit: specifically Mayer, Kincaid or maybe Washington. I haven’t researched the OLBs or CBs really so I don’t know names. Even if there’s a really high potential OG I’d want to take him, often the lower value positions can have really good players available in the upper partner the second round and I’d rather have a stud OG or TE than a rotational YGM style player at a higher value position. -

Yea, it’s the transition to base 3-4 that makes me think our DL is fine. They’re there to plug holes and Brown & co should be sufficient for that -

Yea, other than DL I’d agree that a potential starter at any of those positions is someone we can’t pass on at 39 (with LB including edge rushing OLBs). I’d also add TE, even if they’re not necessarily going to start over Hurst on day one, there’s two or three guys that have really high potential to be exceptional players I would hate to pass on too -

There’s certainly merit to the “crapshoot” philosophy to drafting, but I tend to prefer quality over quantity and trust the decision makers. Rarely do the teams known for trading back and stockpiling picks actually turn those picks into better players than they could have taken at their original spot (at least, in my observations). I’d rather have two firsts, two seconds and nothing else in every draft than a pick in every round, heh. I’ll take a quarter over three dimes any day, when it comes to football players. -

I’d prefer not to trade down from 39, seems like a sweet spot where some guys I think will truly make an impact will be available. I wouldn’t mind trading up from 93 though. Would be awesome to land a top TE at 39 then trade up from 93 for Mingo -
Yep that was it. Best draft site I’ve ever seen

I dunno, I never go off stats, barely ever even know what a prospect’s stats look like unless it’s mentioned here. I just use what I see with my own two eyes and Richardson was more prone to wild throws , and even when they weren’t wild they weren’t well placed often making the receiver have to work harder to catch, than just about anyone I’ve ever seen. Maybe most of that was due to wrong routes or something I have no way of knowing since I’m not in the huddle or QB room, but just based on the frequency that passes dropped to the ground nowhere near the receiver I’ve determined for my own opinion that Richardson is, right now, an awful passer. 100% based on watching every pass he has thrown that’s available on YouTube. on a related topic, I really miss that website that existed years ago that would chop up games of prospects into every play they were involved in, for QBs it was entire games with every single throw and passing play. I forget the name of it, I remember it had a red theme. That site was great and really helpful for armchair GMing.

Of course, Tepper probably encourages then to speak their minds and be honest. If you’re asking if Tepper told them to do something would they say no? Not unless it was illegal/unethical. I doubt Tepper is going to put them in a position they have to say no. If it’s about QBs, that’s their decision, Tepper isn’t going to tell or insinuate they should take someone they don’t want.

Aaron Rodgers finally traded to Jets
JawnyBlaze replied to Ocpanthertew714's topic in Carolina Panthers
Eh, if Rodgers is there for one year and plays 65%+ of the snaps, they got fleeced. If he’s there two years, it’s a bad deal. If he’s there three or more years it’s a good deal for them. And it’s entirely possible. Rodgers is a nutcase and not a good person but he’s still a great QB and maybe a change of scenery is all the motivation he needs. -
Pretty much all these attempts to use stats and analytics and models to make predictions are awful. Might work in the business or finance world. Football? Not so much.

Can’t tell if that’s being facetious or legit incredibly ignorant, but just to cover all the bases, OSU played against higher ranked defenses than Alabama and Stroud was almost always making multiple reads.
-
Bryce had to skitter around probably to get his throwing lanes, like Brees often had to. His processing speed comes into play because those throwing lanes were probably visible to him for less time than most QBs. He is legit quick at processing and decision making.
-
Yea but that wasn’t the case with Stroud this year. Maybe last year, but he didn’t have separation machines this year like he did last year. And Stroud was always making multiple reads, they weren’t one read and throw plays as much this year. Harrison and JSN are good receivers but they’re not blowing by anyone, they were usually covered and Stroud put the ball where only they could make a play. And they were good enough to make those plays usually. (of course occasionally there were broken coverages that let receivers just run free, just like with any good team, including Alabama)
-
Yea, didn’t know his own strength heh. That’s certainly a legit criticism of his throwing ability. Accuracy isn’t a legit criticism though.
-
Sure he lacked touch, I didn’t say anything about that

I think Mrs. Tepper hugging Young has been obscenely over exaggerated here. Jfc that doesn’t mean that she or her husband prefer Young at all, much less enough to try to influence his football guys to take him. Maybe she just got the impression he’s a hugger. Maybe they had just finished some deep insightful conversation and it seemed appropriate. Maybe she felt like since he looks like a little kid she should hug him like a little kid. This is a case of Occams Razor, if they take Young, it’s because the consensus among the football people was that he gives us the best chance to win.
