  1. I like that draft, Capt, except two DTs. Don't think we need two. Just one later round pick for depth. Dunno anything about Abdullah, but if there's a good RB in the 3rd I'll all for it.
  2. Here's an interesting curveball draft: Round 1 Pick 7: Shawn Oakman, DE, Baylor (A) Round 2 Pick 7: Spencer Drango, OT, Baylor (A) Round 3 Pick 7: Justin Hardy, WR, East Carolina (B+) Round 4 Pick 7: Geneo Grissom, OLB, Oklahoma (B+) Round 5 Pick 7: Deshazor Everett, CB, Texas A&M (A) Round 6 Pick 7: Adam Shead, OG, Oklahoma (B-) Round 7 Pick 7: Desmond Hollin, DT, Florida State (B-) I'm starting to like Drango in the 2nd.
  3. Who called anything my scouting abilities? I never claimed to be a scout. I claim to know he looks overrated to me and doesn't fit what we do. If the consensus number 1 pick was a MLB I wouldn't want him either.
  4. A big board with decent writeups for the top 32. Mentions this potentially being a strong LT class. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/story/24821247/nfl-draft-big-board-plenty-of-depth-at-ot-among-top-prospects
  5. Most likely, who knows what though. Won't be much.
  6. Cedric Reed is another mid to late round considerable.
  7. Bud Dupree is one I could see us targetting in the middle rounds (2-4) maybe. Needs to put on a little weight, but not much.
  8. Also watched some Leonard Williams videos. Not impressed. Do not want. He looks strong, but he'll be a 4-3 UT or 3-4 DE. Too stiff, too sluggish off the snap and in pursuit.
  9. So I've watched some videos on Shawn Oakman now. My God that is a big boy. 6'9 280lbs. When I had only seen his numbers I thought "sounds more like a 3-4 DE" but after seeing him, he's relatively lean and quick. Definitely 4-3 DE build. Looks relatively strong and very quick. His hand fighting seems solid, but otherwise his technique is terrible. His tackling is especially poor, I saw him get his hands on a QB a lot of times, full arms around them, and didn't bring them down due to poor technique. His motor also is subpar. Seemed to give up on every play that wasn't an immediate success for him. Saw a few plays where the QB rolled away from him, so he just wound down and didn't try anymore and the QB ended up scrambling back toward him but was able to evade him because the QB was going full speed and Oakman had already slowed down. If he can get the technique and motor coached up, my Lord he could be amazing. I wouldn't be upset with us using our first pick on him (provided Cooper and the top LTs are gone). Reminds me a bit of Ziggy Ansah, but more physically impressive.
  10. And I don't want some Dion Jordan clone. He's gotta be legit NFL size unless we're switching to a 3-4. I gotta do some research on Oakman and another guy I saw mentioned, Leonard something. They both seem like they may be 3-4 DEs though. Gotta watch some videos.
  11. Oh I agree with that point. I only advocate the Safety if there's no OTs or DEs truely worth it, or Cooper.
  12. I wasn't trying to be combative, but you were sticking to that OT point despite it being said a few times "if no OT worth it that high is available". That's where I got the impression you were saying reach for an OT regardless of anything. You didn't say anything about a DE, made the comment about the QB being on his ass. Apologies if you felt I was attacking you or being condescending.
  13. I wouldn't disagree. Are there any elite NFL sized DE prospects in this draft? I haven't heard of any. I'd still rather have Cooper or a top LT than the DE though.
  14. So what you're saying is to take a Rd 2 OT in the top 5 rather than the top Safety? I disagree.
  15. we're both saying if the OTs worth it at the top of the first are gone and the WRs as well, then an elite prospect S is the next best option.
  16. I would DEFINITELY prefer a top OT or Copper but if they're not available Collins is my next choice. We haven't had a decent Safety since the Hitman got shitcanned.
  17. As long as you mean Landon and not La'el I agree.
  18. I'd only be ok with it if it's only a few spots down, picking up an extra 2nd or 3rd (if only 1 or 2 spots). Certainly not out of the 1st, and definitely not down to the bottom of the first. And I'd only be ok with it if Cooper is gone and no top tier LTs are available. edit: but I do disagree with the positions of need, heh. IMO the positions we most need to upgrade with high draft picks are OT, WR and S
  19. And here's a slightly more realistic trade scenario. Round 1 Pick 11 (N.O.): Landon Collins, SS, Alabama (A) Round 2 Pick 7: Cameron Erving, OT, Florida State (B+) Round 2 Pick 11 (N.O.): Melvin Gordon, RB, Wisconsin (A) Round 3 Pick 7: Justin Hardy, WR, East Carolina (B+) Round 4 Pick 7: Cam Thomas, CB, Western Kentucky (A-) Round 5 Pick 7: Tyrus Thompson, OT, Oklahoma © Round 6 Pick 7: Norkeithus Otis, OLB, North Carolina (A-) Round 7 Pick 7: Darius Kilgo, DT, Maryland (A)
  20. Decided to go buck wild on trades at the first-take.com one. Here are the hilarious results. Your Picks: Round 1 Pick 13 (STL): Andrus Peat, OT, Stanford (A) Round 2 Pick 7: Melvin Gordon, RB, Wisconsin (A-) Round 2 Pick 13 (STL): Dorial Green-Beckham, WR, Oklahoma (A) Round 2 Pick 14 (HOU): Ty Sambrailo, OT, Colorado State ( Round 3 Pick 7: Trey Flowers, DE, Arkansas (A-) Round 4 Pick 8 (NYG): Paul Dawson, OLB, TCU ( Round 4 Pick 11 (N.O.): Eric Rowe, CB, Utah (A-) Round 4 Pick 14 (HOU): Jermaine Whitehead, FS, Auburn ( Round 5 Pick 4 (NYJ): Deshazor Everett, CB, Texas A&M (C+) Round 5 Pick 14 (HOU): Kyshoen Jarrett, SS, Virginia Tech (A-) Round 5 Pick 20 (MIA): Leon Orr, DT, Florida (A) Round 6 Pick 7: Jake Smith, C, Louisville (B-) Round 7 Pick 7: Cameron Artis-Payne, RB, Auburn (C-)
  21. And I have a feeling we won't be stuck with Deangelo's contract much longer (not all of it anyway, shouldn't be TOO much dead money left by now).
  22. We might get a comp pick or two. No trades have either taken from nor given us picks. And I definitely agree about the big school part. I'm sick and tired of the Silatolus, Kugbilas, Armanti Edwards, etc. Pick guys that have shown they can play with the big boys.
  23. And for my third and final draft I wanted to see what I'd do if I only took 1 WR, since I think we only really need 1. It's just a big need for that 1. 6: R1P6 WR AMARI COOPER ALABAMA 38: R2P6 RB MELVIN GORDON WISCONSIN 70: R3P6 OT JAKE FISHER OREGON 102: R4P6 CB DAMIAN SWANN GEORGIA 134: R5P6 OT ERIC LEFELD CINCINNATI 166: R6P6 DE HENRY ANDERSON STANFORD 198: R7P6 S BRISON WILLIAMS SOUTH CAROLINA First thing that will jump out at people is Gordon being available in the 2nd. Might not happen, but the first RB off the board in a few recent drafts has happened in the 2nd. It's possible. Also, I didn't address OT as highly as I would have liked to, but hopefully one of the two guys would be at least an upgrade to Bell. (They probably could walk off their campuses right now onto the Panthers practice field and start right away...) Also, I looked up Henry Anderson and I like the thought of getting him late. He's a big guy, listed at 6'6 295 lbs and good stats. Makes me think JJ Watt. Obviously not the prospect Watt was, but he could be used in 3-4 looks or as an investment in a future switch if it's being thought about.
