Jay Gruden on Bryce Young: He looks small and plays small
JawnyBlaze replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
I maintain that if we had gotten Stroud he would have been almost, if not, as good as he was with the Texans. A lot of the “poo show” was because of how bad Bryce was. It’s just that many here, in the media, and within the organization wouldn’t admit it and kept making excuses. -

No he was just scared of hurting his draft stock. -

Not sure Gruden was actually paying attention. There was separation on that first pick, Bryce just airmailed it. If the throw had an ounce of accuracy it would have been a completed pass. -
Anyone disparaging Canales after that inside job by Bryce isn’t paying attention. The schemes were good. Receivers were running open. Bryce just can’t execute.

I’ll never have anything but hate in my heart for Rivera. Even putting aside the self admitted throwing players under the bus and not having their backs, the comments about how he’d be trying to injure Cam, standing by idly while refs allowed it, and the stupid tie incident…setting ALL of that aside, he should have delivered at least one out more like two or three rings with that roster. Cam, Olsen, Luke, TD, Star, KK, Hardy, CJ, Norman, we’ll probably never have a roster that stacked again.

Did Tepper ‘meddle’ this past offseason?!?
JawnyBlaze replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
Occam’s Razor tells me Bryce was Fitterer’s pick. That’s the simplest answer. It didn’t look like Reich was thrilled with him but the most likely scenario to me is that Fitterer bought the hype, made his case to Tepper, Tepper trusted his GM and got on board. Tepper has specifically NOT meddled enough in the past. He let Rhule give Cam the boot and run the place like a college campus without meddling. He gave Rhule more than two years of meddle-free power. -
I read that specifically checked into the wrong protections. He doesn’t know football well enough to be a QB, in addition to all the other problems.

The owner chooses the GM…of course he interviewed them. There’s no position above GM other than owner… -
Did Tepper ‘meddle’ this past offseason?!?
JawnyBlaze replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
So first off, no there was no indication he meddled this offseason. Secondly, Bryce being forced by Tepper is a rumor with no weight behind it. Just another narrative that gets repeated so often people start accepting it as true. I could readily believe he pushed to trade up to #1, it wasn’t a bad idea as long as we make the right pick. I could also believe that he preferred Bryce even though there’s no evidence of it. The media hype machine was heavily behind Bryce to the point of trying to bury Stroud over that stupid S2 test or whatever it was, and Tepper doesn’t seem football bright enough to see through the hype (lord knows 90% of the huddle wasn’t either). But I’ve seen no actual evidence that he pushed, much less forced Fitterer and Reich to take Bryce. I’ve even seen rumors saying both that Mrs Tepper was smitten with Bryce and that’s “why Tepper forced the pick to be Bryce” and also that Mrs Tepper preferred Stroud but David picked Bryce. It’s crazy how easily people are led by the nose with these rumors. -
Derrick Brown potential season ending knee injury

Young didn’t get Carr’d. He was a Jamarcus from the beginning. Good QBs go to bad teams and thrive and develop regardless of how bad the team is around him. Young is trash and was from the beginning. -
Nope, completely disagree. I liked staying aggressive. Sure, the saints scored again but you have to have the attitude that we’re going to keep trying. Giving up is loser Rivera ball. We weren’t winning that game no matter what. Show the other 51 guys on the team that you still believe in them and once we get a QB we can make things like that work.

Best and worst Performances from Saints Game

There’s only one worst imo, Bryce. Looked like he was intentionally sabotaging the team. Everything else that went wrong trickled down from that. -

Can’t agree with a lot of that. My biggest disagreement was about Canales. He schemed the WRs open all day and most importantly stayed aggressive before the half leading to our first points. That’s a big one for me, shows a completely different attitude than we’ve seen from the past 15+ years. -
I stayed until our last offensive possession. I almost never turn off games no matter how bad we do because I want to have informed opinions. If I go to work on Monday and talk about how terrible Bryce was I don’t want someone to be like “but what about the three tds he threw to seal the comeback win?” lol
-
As far as I could tell, Canales actually looked good today. I said in my thread about it, I saw receivers getting schemed wide open, blocking holding up for the most part and most importantly he stayed aggressive before the half and got our first points.

Eugene Robinson on the saints first TD
JawnyBlaze replied to electro's horse's topic in Carolina Panthers
I thought it looked like he was supposed to have help over the top based on his body language. Still not a great play from him though. Played decent the rest of the game, including that boss tfl a little bit later. -
Hard to evaluate anything when one player sabotages a team so completely, but just looking at specifically Canales’s job as HC and OC, I was as impressed as I could be in a 37 point loss. He stayed aggressive before the half which led to points instead of a first half shut out, and I didn’t see any other glaring errors. I saw WRs schemed open and lots of time from the OL for the ball to be thrown. I saw some creative plays that did or should have led to yards if not for terrible throws or penalties. It’s way too early, but if I can take anything positive out of this game it was Canales.
-
No. He was just never any good. He had middle of the league time to throw last year too, the OL wasn’t the problem.
-
He got the ball back on the second one, and I said he fumbled a couple times and that’s not good, but the 7 points his fumble cost us is a drop in the ocean of the problems we had at QB and then by extension of that, the defense
-
Wut? There was fight in the team today, they kept playing hard despite Bryce actively trying to throw the game away. Especially a few of the new guys that Morgan specifically brought in.
