If his knees continue to decline, what's your plant at RT with Moton eating up a ton of cap? All we had to do was see how his knees hold up this year and then move forward accordingly, but noooooo....

When you look around the league and see backup QBs all over the place with actual NFL talent (not saying they'd be serviceable starters, just saying they check the boxes in terms of physical tools and pass the eye test in glorified practice games), then you look at our QB room in comparison... oh wee mayne.
-
Yeah, Rozeboom is one of those fill in/stop gap type vets who is in that good backup/marginal starter tier who is fine if he's the worst LB out there in your starting unit. But if you're counting on him to be your best you're in trouble. We really need Wallace to take a big leap this year.

Hate to break it to y'all but mediocre would be a significant upgrade over some of the guys projected to make our 53. There's at least a couple and maybe several names who will be on our 53 who aren't currently on the roster.
-
Cam is probably a top 10 all-time QB talent. Bryce Young lacks a single NFL measurable and was drafted because he's supposed to be a football savant. That's the key difference.
-
Ironically, the one guy we didn't coddle is the guy who went on to have the most success elsewhere. I fully expect Darnold to regress now that he's left Minnesota.
-
If that's is truly the case then I think we HAVE to trade him. You have to find out if Bryce can handle the load. The Thielen training wheels won't be around forever. That type of stuff was supposed to be what Bryce excelled at. We certainly didn't draft him for his excellent physical attributes.
-
I'm not saying you don't inquire. You keep saying that. I have not said that. I'm saying you don't trade two 1sts and more then pay him the highest defensive player contract in NFL history. Do that and then Bryce regresses and now you're back to QB shopping depleted of roster building resources. On other words, fuged outside of an absolute miracle.

Not doing dumb stuff isn't being scared. I think the Panthers should stop doing dumb stuff.
-
I mean, it's all basically moot anyway. If they really turned down two 1sts, a 2nd, and Gary then they're not even entertaining trading him right now
-
No, I'm not. I'm talking about the Panthers as if they're a team with a major question mark at the QB position. This isn't about Parsons. It's about the Panthers' current situation.

Josina Anderson: Panthers NOT trading Adam Thielen
LinvilleGorge replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
If the 4th didn't involve us eating a bunch of cap for them I would've taken it. I'd honestly rather have Coker out there anyway. -
And he's gonna put up big stat numbers for 6-7 win teams if we swing this deal. That's what you want? You wanna strut around and brag about having the best pass rusher in the league while the Cowboys draft in the top 10 with our picks?
-
You do if you don't have a QB. Find me any team that didn't have the QB position solved that has traded multiple firsts for a non-QB i the modern era. There's a reason for that.
-
Sure you do. You know what those teams did? They drafted well for years. They didn't trade massive assets for non-QBs when they didn't have the QB position solved.
-
You don't stop building but you don't part with massive roster building capital for non-QBs unless you have a QB. This isn't that hard to figure out. It's the hardest position to get right. The NFL shows you that by the way they pay them.
-
They didn't "drop" a QB in there. They swung a huge trade for a QB. Something you can't do if you're shopping off all your draft capital every two or three years.
-
I didn't say they were right. I said it's proof that the NFL values the QB position by far and away over every other position. It's not debatable. That's why you don't even entertain trading multiple 1sts and more for any non-QB unless you're certain you have QB solved.
-
Agreed. And there's no value to parting with that type of haul unless you're certain that you have the most important position solved.
-
And the NFL has told you through actual contracts that literally half the league's starting QBs are worth more than the best pass rushers or any other position for that matter.
-
Nothing because if you don't for sure have a QB you shouldn't even be considering it.

Josina Anderson: Panthers NOT trading Adam Thielen
LinvilleGorge replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
I'm good either way. If we move Thielen to free up snaps for the youngsters and get future draft capital, I get it. If we keep him to provide Bryce with a security blanket in his prove it year, I get it. -
Sure. You look into it. Then you find out they want two 1sts and more and he wants to be the highest paid defender in league history. Then you...
-
We may or may not have a QB. Right now, Bryce has put a lot of bad play and some middling play on film. You're talking about a different era of football before they changed the rules of the passing game. The top 16 highest paid players are QBs. Literally half of the league's starting QBs. A good chunk of the rest are probably on rookie contract. It's the only argument I need in terms of how the league views the position. Money talks and bullshit walks and teams are telling you what is most important with their money.
-
If any decent QB can thrive then why are the top 16 highest paid players and 17 of the top 20 all QBs?
