  1. It doesn't matter who wanted what. The reality is that for years after the trade it looked like the Chargers got the better of it. Rivers is better than Manning in every statistical category. Before Merriman's career was detailed by injury he looked like a surefire HOFer and maybe on track to be one of the best defensive players ever with 39.5 sacks through his first three seasons. That's the sixth most of all time through the first three seasons of a career. They also got Nate Kaeding out of that trade who was probably the best kicker in the league through the mid to late '00s. Two rings to none means the Giants won that trade but it took awhile for that to become apparent. Honestly, the Giants just had the better overall organization.
  2. Yeah, you don't make a huge trade up to #1 to draft a QB to have him sit and wait his turn behind a washed up vet. Dalton was signed as a vet mentor and a guy who could hold down the fort briefly if the rookie wasn't ready week one. When we signed Dalton, it seemed like we were gunning for the #3 spot, not #1. We only shifted focus to #1 when we figured out that the cost differential wasn't gonna be that much. Richardson would've likely been the guy at #3 so we had to have a vet onboard to ensure we weren't forced to play AR before he was truly ready. But with Young, those concerns are out the window. The guy is ready. We'll see how the physical tools translate to the NFL but there are zero concerns with him being mentally ready.
  3. I grew up on a cattle farm. I was always a fearsome son of a bitch in sports and on the schoolyard because I was getting my ass kicked by 800+ pound steers at home on a daily basis. There really wasn't anything a fellow kid could threaten me with that put any fear in me. But yeah... hippos? Oh wee mayne. That's another ballgame altogether. Those damn things kill more people than pretty much every other non-mosquito animal on the planet. fug that. Maybe we should've just ya know not slaughtered the bison nearly to extinction?
  4. Ultimately I pretty much agree with this. We desperately needed a QB, both from a roster perspective and an "excite the fanbase" perspective having struggled mightily at the position after Cam's shoulder went south and we correctly calculated that we were just sitting too low at #9 to land one of the top three prospects. So we jumped up the board and went all the way to #1 after determining that going to #3 was gonna end up costing us nearly as much anyway. The Bears like Fields' potential and development and desperately needed to add talent around him. Could they have taken a pass rusher at #1? Sure. But what does that do to actually help the development of their young QB? So they ship #1 to us in exchange for a proven WR and multiple picks and take an OT to protect Fields at #10 after giving our #9 to Philly who were desperate for Jalen Carter. On paper, both fanbase should be very happy right now. Time will tell how it all plays out on the field.
  5. Richardson was drafted #4 overall and I don't recall any talk of him struggling in interviews, etc. That seems like a huge reach.
  6. Who wanted that approach? Everyone was wanting a QB high in the draft.
  7. True. Feels like the exact same thing again. Oh look, here is a very intriguing physical talent available considerably later in the draft than most expected largely based off of mental/processing concerns.
  8. I gotta think there was a lot more to the Titans seemingly moving on so quickly than what we saw on the field. They must have made the decision that there were off field concerns or limitations in work ethic or mentally that would prevent him from ever maximizing his physical talents. I mean, they were basically running a HS offense with him last year. Had to think it was just a small school rookie being protected at the time but seeing how quickly they moved on from him being their focus at QB for the future I don't think it was just them protecting a rookie. It may have been all he was capable of executing.
  9. Yep. Young, Stroud, and Richardson were all off the board by #4. We were completely SOL sitting at #9.
  10. Absolutely no way of knowing. The trade is done. No point in trying to hash out the details of who "won" and "lost" the trade right now and we might not know for years to come. For quite awhile it looked like the Chargers won that Eli trade with the Giants. They got an arguably better QB and a haul of great assets with the picks they acquired. But when it was all said and done, two rings to none declared the Giants the hands down winner.
  11. I'm honestly just not that interested in Levis. I think the dude is gonna suck. I'm very interested in Young (obviously), Stroud, and Richardson simply because those were the three guys I was okay with at #1. It's always interesting to see how draft classes pan out. Really hoping we drafted a damn stud and don't even care if he turns out not to be the best of the bunch as long as we end up having high level team success.
  12. Would've been interesting to see if it would've turned out the same way of he hadn't gotten drafted by the best team in the league at the time which was also one of the most stable, well ran organizations in the league. I mean, he got drafted into an absolute dream scenario.
  13. Bacot and RJ Davis averaged 16 a game last year. Having a legit PG running the offense should help everyone.
  14. We're on a long stretch of sucking. Playing down to their competition is something our competitors are going to worry about doing when facing us. Hell, we just want to actually compete for the first time in a long time.
  15. This is huge. He'll be our best true pass first PG since Kendall Marshall. I want to see what Hubert Davis' offense is supposed to look like. All I've seen is a bunch of isolation one on one ball, but he also hasn't had a real PG to work with either. Bacot has to be tickled to death. Really excited to see what he can do with someone on the roster who can actually throw an entry pass to the post. The guy has been working his ass off because he's had to get most of his himself off of a put backs.
  16. There's no way in hell three NFC South teams post a winning record.
  17. The guy spends most of his time trying to act like an agent or the president of the NFLPA.
  18. The #4 WR on a depth chart isn't a 3rd or 4th stringer. That guy is seeing a LOT of snaps in the modern NFL considering three wide sets are the base offense for just about every team these days. The 4th WR on the depth chart was an afterthought in the NFL of 20 years ago but he's a fairly significant contributor in today's game and is one WR injury away from being a starter.
  19. Peppers is literally one of the best defensive players in the history of the game. It's okay if Burns isn't Peppers. Very, VERY few are at that level. I'm really hoping the new scheme will free him up even more.
  20. Our foreign policy in the post-WWII era has been nothing short of disastrously atrocious.
  21. Insane. Why would you spend that type of money on someone else's dream home? I'd build my own if I had that kinda cash to spend. Interesting note but the owner of the current most expensive home ever sold in the Asheville area moved there from the same "town" in CO where we lived. I put it in parenthesis because it was all unincorporated. Money goes a helluva lot further in western NC (even Asheville) than it does in Colorado.
