  1. I'm not sure what posting about these anecdotal one offs is supposed to accomplish or prove. We've already had the "prevention isn't 100% effective" argument. Meanwhile,
  2. Honestly man, you've already exhibited a lack of understanding of "the numbers". Does it matter if it's a 2-3 week lag or a 4-5 week lag? Who cares what a "couple different guys" say? That's why we largely rely on consensuses. All the graphs and numbers are changing? Ya don't say! It's almost as if we only have a few months of data to work off of. I keep bringing up masks because 1) they're highly effective. 2) they're of minimal inconvenience. 3) Because some of you are acting like there's mass hysteria and widespread outcry for lockdowns and extreme measures when that's not the case. It seems like those who criticized the lockdowns and wanted other methods in reality simply wanted to do nothing and go about life as usual and take an "if they die, they die" approach. It's ironic that a lot of those who I see wanting to take that approach check a lot of boxes on the high risk checklist.
  3. Simple face masks and basic social distancing are very effective means of preventing the spread. That's it, that's all. No hysteria. No lockdowns. No BS. It's well past time for those who don't want to take simple steps to prevent the spread of this disease that is very dangerous to certain segments of our population to suck it up and think of someone other than themselves and their selfishness for prioritizing a small inconvenience for themselves over the lives of others.
  4. My mom wanted to go out to eat last Friday after the governor's mask mandate went out. We agreed to go out and sit on the patio. All the restaurant staff were wearing masks... around their chins. We just got up and walked out.
  5. This is good news. The quickly fading antibodies definitely had me concerned, both from a herd immunity and vaccine standpoint.
  6. Being dense? Yeah, you are.
  7. You're the only one talking about Trump right now. All of my posts you've been responding to have been talking about pure data and expert opinions. You're telling on yourself a bit invoking Trump. *My bad, forgot about my Trump comment on that previous post. Working on about five different spreadsheets of number crunching right now because that's a big part of what I do. It's why I focus so much on number crunching whether we're talking football or COVID.
  8. Ain't that the damn truth. Mask wearing in CO was very high, but it sure seemed like on the occasion you'd see someone not wearing a mask, the looked like they likely checked every risk factor box on the list.
  9. Simply suggesting that people wear masks and practice social distancing (which is by far the most prevalent messaging out there) is far from "hysteria". Shutdowns aren't warranted IMO. The data shows that wearing simple face masks and practicing social distancing is VERY effective.
  10. Listen, we get it. For some of y'all, it won't matter if a million are dead. We'll be hearing about how that's well under 1% of the American population and it's still no big deal and still just a librul hoax to hurt Trump. It's interesting how the crowd that accuses the people who actually understand how to interpret data of only being emotionally driven.
  11. Remember what I said about trends being very relevant?
  12. If they were still sucking they wouldn't be.
  13. Both sources you're quoting with the 1/3 number are talking specifically about ICU, not general hospitalization. The CEO of the hospital was quoting general hospitalization numbers.
  14. Trends are very relevant in terms of pandemics. I'm definitely not defending NY or NYC in any way. They did a terrible job. But, they're currently trending the right direction. The likes of Florida, Arizona, South Carolina, etc. definitely aren't.
  15. Look at the graph. Those numbers were from a week and a half ago. 50% isn't far off from 60% anyway. I have to imagine the CEO of the hospital likely has more up to date info at his disposal regarding his hospital than the media.
  16. I'm not even sure what you're trying to say here.
  17. Last week, mask wearing in this part of NC was practically zero. It's still not great, but it's at least better than it was.
  18. https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2020/06/29/coronavirus-live-updates-us/#click=https://t.co/HEfj2CVcBS Some interesting tidbits in here. Including... The CEO of a major Houston hospital reports that 60% of their hospitalized COVID patients are under the age of 50. The former head of the FDA says that half of the US population will likely contract COVID by the end of the year. On the one hand, this is a significant step toward herd immunity. On the other hand, we will see exactly what we hoped to avoid - namely widespread overrunning of our healthcare system leading to higher mortality rate from COVID and the unnecessary deaths of those who won't be able to get healthcare to treat other health ailments. We'll see people dying of treatable strokes, heart attacks, cancers, injuries, etc. Let's say the actual mortality rate of COVID is as low as 0.5%. Half of the US getting it would mean over 800k dead. That's basically the population of Charlotte disappearing. Given the decent likelihood of a vaccine as early as next spring this would be a brutal and very preventable massive loss of American lives. That's not even talking about the secondary loss of life from those other previously mentioned issues due to the healthcare system being overrun.
  19. That's the problem with today's society. Relying on science and actual data is considered "activism". Good grief.
  20. WD-40 and shoehorns? Not 100% effective. Useless.
  21. LOL! That actually was a funny typo. I'll give ya that one.
  22. Don't mind him, he's likely busy removing the seatbelts and air bags from his vehicle since they're useless due to the fact that they aren't 100% effective in the prevention of death or serious injury in the event of a crash.
  23. I really hope you're being intentually dense. Because these arguments you're making are just laughable. I don't think anyone thinks the word "prevent" implies 100% efficacy. Good grief, man.
  24. Are you being intentionally dense or does this just come naturally?
