Panthers Hoping To Sign Oher and Ginn Before Tuesday
LinvilleGorge replied to rscott94's topic in Carolina Panthers
Love it. These are the types of signings we can expect and the types of signings that can really help us without damaging our cap space. Oher had a rough year last year, but he'd be the most talented OT on our roster since Gross which granted ain't saying much. We know what Ginn would bring. Instant impact as a return man and deep threat. -
Mel Kiper has us picking D.J. Humphries in his Mock 3.0

LOL! Really? -
Only 29, but he's 3 seasons removed from a 1000 yard season and hardly played at all last season and when he did play he was exceptionally bad. In 15 games, he carried the ball 43 times for only 96 yards for a 2.2ypc and 0 TDs. He did add another 11 receptions for 71 yards. His longest gain of the season was 13 yards. Pretty clear he was finished whether he wanted to be or not.

LOL! You mad. If you couldn't tell that post was slightly tongue in cheek.

Hey, if you believe in your young QB, then build around him. Or... you could sign Jericho Cotchery and Jason Avant and pimp Byron Bell as a legit NFL LT because he's left handed.

I think last year's stellar rookie WR class is having an impact on the way teams view veteran WRs. All of a sudden it's like teams feel as if they can find a plug and play WR in the draft. That used to not be the case. It used to take a WR 2-3 years of development before you could expect starter caliber production from them. My question is if that's the new norm or was last year's WR class just THAT damn good? I honestly think it's a bit of both. More and more college teams are adopting pass heavy attacks and the WRs are generally coming out better groomed. I think the tighter officiating for DBs in the NFL has a big impact too. Back in the day, NFL DBs were very physical and I think it took young WRs a couple of years to adapt to that style of play. So, I think going forward we'll see more success for rookie WRs, but I still think the 2014 class was very special. 600 yards used to be considered a very good season for a rookie WR. Last year, 9 rookies put up 600+ yards with a 10th coming very close. Three rookies put up 1000+ yards with a 4th coming very close. That's just unheard of.

That looks to me like a guy who is carrying 228# with ease and who could potentially add some more. -
LOL @ Haplo E on this thread. I've long thought him to be one of the least knowledgeable posters on this board, but he's really trying to stake his claim for the undisputed #1 spot.

Humphries reminds me a lot of Morgan Moses last year. All along, Moses was considered a mid-round prospect, but as the draft got closer and closer there was more and more talk about him sneaking into the 1st round. He ended up going in the 3rd round. Kind of where he was thought to be all along. -

He's only 30 years old. Someone may trade for that contract, but it won't be us.

All I know is that we have to get an upgrade at WR in this free agent market. Tons of guys out there who are better than Jericho Cotchery and Corey Brown. Even if we plan on adding another WR early, we can't necessarily expect that guy to come in and make a KB type impact. Last year's WR class was truly historic in terms of their impact as rookies. It's not the norm. Not even close to it. There are a lot of veterans out there who would be an upgrade over what we have right now and the depth of the market should drive the some of the prices down.

If there's a guy there at #25 who Gettleman believes will be a good starting NFL OT, then I'm 100% alright with taking him. -
Ted Ginn leaning towards going home to Cleveland
LinvilleGorge replied to nctarheel0619's topic in Carolina Panthers
Virtually every aging NFL vet is in it for the cash. Ginn just got a decent deal from the Cards last year and despite washing out and getting cut, he probably thinks he can land another one. -
Trent Cole makes a lot of sense.
LinvilleGorge replied to electro's horse's topic in Carolina Panthers
Had an $11.5M cap hit this season and wasn't willing to take a pay cut. How much is he looking for? He's 32 years old. Gotta think he would've made more in Philly than anywhere else. -
Yikes. Can't wait to see national media headlines on this... "Cam Newton Involved in Nightclub Shooting"

Tampa attempting to trade OT Anthony Collins
LinvilleGorge replied to TheSpecial1's topic in Carolina Panthers
This. He got his big deal and failed miserably. Maybe he'll be hungry again now to try to earn another one. Carolina can also sell him on immediate playing opportunity and the fact that we have recent success signing vets on short-term deals and put them in a position to cash in after that - Ginn and Mitchell. -
I would assume he's fine at this point. Wasn't there talk about him potentially being available for the Super Bowl had we made it there? I could be completely fabricating that, but I seem to remember some talk about it.

TB is god awful. The guy played pretty damn well for the Bengals. The Bucs just massively overpaid out of desperation, just like the Titans did with Oher. -
Faster Jason Witten? You serious? Wow. That is truly hilarious. Witten is 3" taller and 15# heavier than O'Leary and his 4.65 40 would blow the doors off of O'Leary. Witten is a prototype NFL TE and a potential HOFer. O'Leary is a guy hoping that he'll make an NFL roster.

Would not be mad about it. Wouldn't be mad at all. -
I honestly think it's very possible that weakside 4-3 OLB is where he's best suited.
