Yeah, me too. I just think Robby will be valuable this year and give Darnold his best chance of recovering from his likely shellshocked state. We've hitched out wagon to Darnold. Give him his best chance, because honestly if he flops I think Rhule's seat is going to start warming up.

I'd rather have him and his familiarity with Darnold this year, then take the likely 3rd round comp pick.

Panthers Confidential - A Look Into the Panthers Offseason
LinvilleGorge replied to DeSim's topic in Carolina Panthers
I don't think the Panthers are "hiding" anything. We liked the option of trading a future 2nd and a couple of late rounders for Darnold better than drafting Fields at #8. Time will tell if that turns out to be smart or not. We'll see if the President of the Sam Darnold Fan Club follows him to his next stop if it doesn't work out here. We already know MrScot will convince himself that somehow this was still part of the Panthers' grand plan and anyone who thinks otherwise is delusional. -
I think you've already lost. You bailed on your team to follow a bust. That's about the weirdest bandwagon hopping I've encountered.
-
Did we trade the pick? Ah! See there! Your game isn't hard to play. It isn't very nuanced.
-
That doesn't fit the narrative. Therefore, it's a rumor. Didn't you read the "report"? Delusional. Did you know that Sam Darnold is "basically a rookie"? I mean, that's the "report".

When you resort to hanging your hat on a typo, you've tapped out.

I don't see it as a low-ball, it's just what we were willing to offer. We were probably hoping the Niners would low-ball. Honestly, we were always a long shot to land Stafford. To their credit, the Lions actually wanted to do right by him after botching it with Barry Sanders and Megatron. Objectively, the Niners are just a much better situation than we are.
-
The reports said the room was divided. There were people in the organization who wanted Fields. Some felt he was a generational talent. The pro-Darnold faction won out. But, everything is always black and white with you. "Black" being your take and "white" being literally anything to the contrary.
-
I just didn't take it for the gospel you did. There was waaaaaay too much talk about a pending Watson trade for there to be no smoke. You just cling desperately to sources that confirm your take. Those are "reports". Everything else is "rumors". That's called "confirmation bias". We all have it, you're just completely blind to yours. Meanwhile, you're in here lockstep with the president and lone member of "The Official International Sam Darnold Fan Club". What should that be telling you?

I didn't say that we panicked. I only pondered that we might have. What I know for sure is that the team would spin any love we made as if their plan worked out all along. I mean, that's just what you have to do. But we definitely made a big offer for Stafford. By all accounts we were going to be all in on Watson talks. We definitely reached out to Miami about #3 before it became obvious the Jets were taking Wilson. At best, Darnold was our 4th option.
-
What's hilarious is bailie on your team to follow a bust of a QB. I get the feeling that you probably went all in on Darnold to the point of being afraid to show your face around Jets fans.
-
LOL! Maybe I was wrong about the only hard headed part. Yeah man, we offered a multiple pick package including #8 overall for Stafford while Sam Darnold was our plan all along. That's hilarious.
-
Where did he say anything other than Darnold was a fallback plan. The only delusion here is arguing that Darnold was our guy all along while we made a much bigger trade offer for Stafford. C'mon man. You're hard headed but you're not stupid.

Former NFL LB makes Bold Statement on Panthers Defense
LinvilleGorge replied to CarolinaLivin's topic in Carolina Panthers
Top 10 wouldn't be a shock IMO. Our best defenders last year were young and still improving. On paper, our biggest weakness was CB and we made some serious moves there. I don't expect an elite D, but borderline top 10? Yeah, I can see that. -
Reports are gospel when you desperately want to believe them. Of course the team is going to spin it that Darnold was their guy all along but actions speak louder than words and their actions showed they had several options they preferred over Darnold.
-
I thought we'd take Fields. Some in the organization wanted to. The other side won. That's how it goes. There's desperate spin going on here alright...
-
No, I don't doubt that the Jets told teams that they were going to finish evaluations. I do highly doubt that anyone in the NFL actually thought they'd stick with Darnold though sitting at #2 with this incoming QB class. The league expectation was almost certainly always that Darnold would be available. Once he became available, the list of suitors was... well, us. We pursued other options because they were much better. Darnold was always a fallback plan. The way the cards were dealt, we needed the fallback plan. My only question is whether or not we panicked. Would we have drafted Fields had we not made that trade? I have a hunch we would've, but it's only that.
-
LOL @ "fit the narrative". The point is that Darnold was there for the taking all along. We pursued other options because we thought they were better options. This is isn't hard. The mental gymanstics you're going through to convince yourself we wanted Darnold all along is hilarious.
-
Are you really pretending like we didn't strike out on every other pitch before settling on Darnold? We were all over the Watson trade talks. We made a serious offer for Stafford. We had discussions with Miami about #3 overall before it became obvious the Jets were taking Wilson #2. Darnold was literally the best option available after all of that. The only thing you said that makes any sense is that the Panthers preferred trading for Darnold over drafting Justin Fields and I'm not 100% sold that the Panthers would've made that trade had they known Fields would be there at #8. I'm just hoping that they actually did prefer Darnold and didn't let a sunk cost alter their draft board.

According to Honda. A Subaru Outback is an "SUV" according to Subaru. Car companies just figured out they couldn't sell minivans and station wagons if they kept calling them that, but call the same thing an "SUV" or a "crossover" and dumbasses would still buy them (at a premium price no less) having convinced themselves they aren't actually driving a minivan or station wagon. [they are] People are willing to pay more to be lied to if it allows them to feel better about themselves.
-
Technically auto makers have been calling minivans "SUVs" or "crossovers" for years, but trust and believe - that's a damn minivan.
-
When you can buy murdered out minivans straight off the showroom, you know it's a played out look. https://www.motor1.com/news/362529/2020-honda-pilot-black-edition/

Hell, I don't. He was a trainwreck at OT. Oher was a good FA signing and Moton was a good draft pick, but my god we were trash at OT for most of his tenure. He willingly planned to go into a season with Chandler and Bell starting at left and right tackle. Holy fug. That honestly may be the worst pair of starting OTs in NFL history that wasn't forced by a rash of injuries.
