PFN's Tony Pauline on Pickett vs Willis
LinvilleGorge replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
It's why I wanted him fired. This very much feels like a lame duck year because it's very hard to see Rhule getting this team to where it needs to be to get him a 4th year. It seems like everyone except the man ultimately making the decision has accepted this reality. -
Yep. The Cardinals did it with Rosen. Drafted him top 10, weren't happy with him so they flipped him for a 2nd and drafted Kyler Murray #1 overall. Hell, the Jets managed to get a 2nd, 4th, and 6th for Sam fuging Darnold after he proved to be the worst starting QB in the NFL over the course of three seasons.

7-8 wins with a promising rookie QB on a team that improves throughout the season very well might save his job. I honestly think that would be his best reasonable path to a 4th year. I can't see him landing a vet QB that would get him there. -
Nah, I've always been pretty honest about my take on UNC prospects. I laughed it off when people were giving Dyami Brown 1st round grades last year. Interesting you mentioned Mahomes - a QB with a lot of question marks coming out of college. It's an art, not a science and there will always be steals and busts in ever draft class yet every year folks want to take about the draft in absolutes.

Yeah. In hindsight taking Tua and his Bo Jackson'd hip over Herbert was a huge mistake. All the questions I had regarding Herbert in that Oregon system should've gotten cleared up by NFL talent evaluators in the interview process. That's the part of the process is fans have no insight into. I gotta judge a guy based on the offense he played in. When you handcuff the hell out of your QB I gotta assume there's a reason for it. Well, there was. Those Oregon coaches were idiots.

I just think everything gets exaggerated leading up to the draft. A bit below average QB draft class on the hella of a QB draft class that was considered all-time type great and it gets spun as the worst group of QBs in the history of the sport. Three really good but still flawed OT prospects and it gets spun as the greatest OT class ever. It's all hyperbole and everyone is going to act shocked when 4-5 QBs go in the 1st.

Rockhill site going south fast it seems.

How far? London seems nice. -
It might play out that way but the narrative of these prospects as prospects is skewed significantly. Herbert ended up being the 3rd QB prospect taken. The NFL whiffed on that evaluation too. He absolutely goes 2nd overall if that class was redrafted. I doubt the Bengals would give up Burrow for him and that's understandable.

You gotta ignore a lot of glaring weaknesses in the OT prospects. I honestly think the QB class is a little below average and the OT class is a little above average. Neither are exceptional either way. You gotta wear your optimist glasses for the OTs and your pessimist glasses for the QBs to buy the narrative.

Him moving the team would honestly be welcomed by me at this point. Charlotte would immediately become the top available market for an NFL franchise and we could wash our hands of Tepper's poo show. Seems like a win to me. -

I'm not sure if Rhule is factoring in the level of veteran QB that's going to be willing to come here and play for him which is pretty stunning considering we've chased and whiffed on every decent vet QB available since he was hired. You would've thought he would've been ready to swallow that bitter pill by now. -
It's odd to me how everyone can easily point out the weaknesses of the QB prospects while ignoring the weaknesses of the OT prospects. The football player on the field has never matched the athlete in the gym for Neal. Ekwonu is a better run blocker than pass protector and that's a big concern for a LT. He's also built more like an OG than an OT at 6'4" 310. Cross is another guy who's a bit undersized at a shade over 300 pounds with significant questions about his physicality at the NFL level. I'm just not buying into this draft narrative that this OT class is special and the QB class is trash. It doesn't add up.

It's always seemed like by far our likeliest scenario. Our biggest need is QB and there's no consensus top 10 QB prospect in the draft. Fitterer loves trading down and trading in general. We lack a 2nd or 3rd round pick greatly hampering our roster building draft capital. Trading down is almost certainly our preferred option.

Josh Norris on Panthers 1st round plans

Nah, hindsight being 20/20 the franchise was already ruined we just didn't realize it yet. The ruination occurred when Tepper signed the papers. -

@tecc86, remember this post and celebrating that meaningless win when we're talking draft again in October while Herbert is playing like an MVP candidate.
