The first thing that jumps out to me watching this guy play is that his first step is sloooooow. Sure, when he can get to step two or three without contact you can see the speed but the first step is labored. Beating NFL OTs around the edge with speed is all about that first step. The second thing that jumps out is that I don't see a bit of technique. Where's a swim move? A spin? Hand fighting? I don't see any of it. I just see a big, fast, athlete who can occasionally make an impact by being one of the best athletes on the field. It's like watching a D1 football recruit on a HS basketball court. Like yeah, you can see that this guy is a helluva athlete but you can also see that he's not really a basketball player. All the impact he's making is just a byproduct of being the best athlete out there. That's what watching the Shemar Stewart college "highlights" looks like. I have no idea how people are watching this guy and seeing a 1st round prospect, forget top 10.

This. If we were a playoff team sitting at #8 that felt pretty good about our overall roster and felt we had the luxury of swinging for the fences on a boom/bust player at an impact position, okay. That's obviously not us. And the thing is, most of those consistent playoff teams got to that position by NOT doing stupid poo like this. LOL

Watching his highlights is just bizarre. Like if these are the "highlights"... damn. This dude sucks. LOL Oh look, here he is again beating the one on one block just being faster and stronger than the opposing OL and getting a clear path to the QB and somehow not even coming close to getting the sack. Yay! Highlight! You have to remember, most of these OLs he's simply running around in these college "highlights" aren't NFL players. They're worse than the worst guys on our roster.
-
I think I only watched two of his games and I honestly didn't notice him. Having watched a couple of his "highlight" reels it's wild how many times he has one on one matchups and beats the blocker but then just runs around like a chicken with his head cut off. Like free path to the QB and doesn't even come close. He looks like an elite athlete who just has absolutely zero football instincts.

I'm not saying he won't. I'm saying that history shows that these guys with poor production in college but stellar workouts tend to also go on to have poor production in the NFL. Yeah, there are exceptions but make no mistake about it, they're exceptions and not the norm. And in Stewart's case, his production isn't just run of the mill "poor" for a 1st round draft pick. His stats scream UDFA. There's just an insane gap between the traits and the production. Not all great athletes are football players.

I'm not completely sold on Walker but if I'm forced to pick between Stewart and Walker I'm taking Walker all day everyday.
-
5 is more than Stewart had his entire career. LOL The thing the vast majority of 1st round busts have in common is that they have all the traits for a pro player.
-
Two (2) sacks in SEC play in three seasons. He had a whole half a sack in SEC play this season.
-
If you just saw the stat line with no accompanying Combine workout numbers you'd assume this was a guy who was a long shot to get a UDFA camp invite who should probably be spending plenty of time updating his non-football resume.
-
Imagine spending a top 10 pick on an EDGE with this stat line... This guy has workout warrior written all over him.

The Athletic - Post-Combine Consensus Big Board - 3/17

Graham, T-Mac, Walker, Warren, or trade down. -
I don't think we can afford to fire Hubert right now after the Belichick deal. I think Bubba's seat is red hot though. If this Belichick thing turns into a circus and Hubert keeps putting trash on the hardwood that dude is GONE.
-
Oh, that AD cares a LOT right now. He just inked Hubert to a big extension, had to sit on that news for months because we sucked and he had to wait until we could string together a couple of wins against bad teams to publicly announce it, everyone knows Hubert should either be fired or be on the hottest of seats and instead he's tied the program at the hip to this guy for the foreseeable future. Bubba Cunningham REALLY needed this team in the tourney to try to sell some type of "win".
-
Hell, I'm sitting here saying we didn't deserve to be in the tournament and sneaking in as the last team in like landing a fat girl at last call with our AD as the chair of the selection committee is just the absolute worst of optics. What shocks me is how many UNC fans seems thrilled. Thrilled with a play in game to be an 11 seed. WTF??? We've gone from playing for titles and expecting 1 or 2 seeds to just being thrilled to be a footnote.
-
I could've sworn you were a Wake fan. My bad.
-
Wake has made what, like three NCAA tourneys in the last 20 years? I think they have one tourney win in the past two decades. You'd think their fans would just go hide somewhere instead of talking about anybody else. LOL
-
Oh good lord, UNC AD Bubba Cunningham was the chair of the selection committee and we get in as what they admit was the last team in when most assumed we were out after he gives our coach who should probably be fired a 5 year extension? Jesus, this is such a bad look. I didn't want us to get a bid already and now the optica of this? Fug...
-
Surely to God we wouldn't accept a fuging NIT bid. Hell, even Wake Forest finally developed a little pride and declined an NIT bid. LOL! We might not win the NIT but we kept Wake out of the dance.
-
Well, UNC is in a play in game to be a #11 seed. Somehow that feels way more embarrassing than just being left out.

Why did the cowgirls switch RBs with us?

I figured he must've lit them up back in '22 when he had over 1200 yards and 11 TDs. Nope. A combined 39 carries for 136 yards for a 3.5ypc average and 0 TDs in his two games against Dallas. -
Not surprised. Everyone is running the same ISO dribble ball bullshit. It's the way the elite recruits want to play because that's NBA ball. IMO the ticket to consistent success in this environment is to forget about the elite recruits. Let someone else buy them. Focus on good recruits who buy into a system, probably don't have legit NBA hopes, and want to maximize their NIL earnings knowing that a future in the NBA is probably not in the cards. Gobble up as many of those guys as you can and play team ball.

Somewhat? LOL To be fair, I think any QB worth drafting has somewhat of a big ego but you have to find a way to walk the tightrope between confident and cocky. Confidence is good. Cocky will get you exposed.
