It's my big concern with Caleb Williams as a prospect. More and more every year this league is becoming about getting the ball out FAST. "Last season, his 3.24-second average time to throw was the highest among Power Five quarterbacks." That would be good for the second slowest time in the NFL since 2018.
-
The odds have to be VERY good for two top 5 picks and astronomical for two top 10 picks. They're probably gonna be able to draft a QB then turn around and grab a stud WR prospect to pair with DJ. Seems like a sweet setup but the Bears are hopelessly snakebit at QB so I'm sure they'll fug it up.
-
Agreed. In the second game especially he just looked really hesitant to throw and like you said, like he was second guessing everything. I don't think think the staff is blind to this. As critical as I have been of situational offensive play calling, these guys do know NFL football. The more I think about it and look at the numbers and it just sinks in how much better the passing game ran with Dalton the more I do think that the ankle was just an excuse to pull Bryce out of the fire and give him a minute to reset and regroup.

https://nextgenstats.nfl.com/stats/passing#yards Bryce is second to last among NFL QBs beating only the atrocious Zach Wilson. Dalton currently sitting at 5th fastest. 3.14 seconds vs. 2.5 seconds and Dalton is doing that while throwing downfield consistently more. I was expecting this to be a real strength of Bryce's. There's only four slower times than Bryce's since they started compiling the numbers in 2018 (one was Darnold ). This not what I expected out of a "super processor". Let's hope he can improve. But right now, the eye test said that Andy Dalton ran the offense much better yesterday and the more numbers I look at, the more they SCREAM it.

PFF grades after week 3 (not for the faint of heart)

Oh wee mayne. Dalton grading out as twice as good as Bryce does pass the eye test IMO. -
A zero? ZERO??? Like bro... they determined you were completely useless out there. Same end result as a Huddler being out there or straight up just playing 10 on 11. Brutal.
-
I'm waiting for them to say it's all working perfectly, we just can't see it. If the Rhule results on the field are going to continue might as well keep the same logic too.
-
I literally laughed out loud when they ran that play. I liked how the announcers talked about how Dalton made the right read keeping it. Well, no poo the D keyed on the RB. They aren't concerned with a Dalton keeper. He ain't going anywhere.
-
I have a feeling that Bryce's ankle evaluation might continue for as long as Dalton plays considerably better than he did in his first two games.

I see Cam level instant impact and confidence

Cmon man, pick another thread. Not every Stroud thought needs a new thread. We're letting people vent more than usual but we can't let non-Panthers topics overrun the forum. -
Well, at least it provided a few months of hope and excitement. Back to the regularly scheduled Tepper led suckfest now. Gonna be ironically depressing if we finally get that tank year many of us have been wanting for years only to have traded that pick away already.

With Snyder finally out he really might be. -

Hey now. He's really good at moving around numbers on spreadsheets to make the incredibly wealthy even more wealthy while actually materially contributing nothing to humanity. Oh wait... that's not exactly a redeeming quality. My bad. -

He gets an F so far. Just a flat out F. From the on field performance to the debacle on Rock Hill to the organizational revolving door. F. -
It worked out one time for us and we went 15-1 and went to the SB. Gettleman's early FA moves were stellar but then he got cocky and thought he could plug every hole with a draft pick or a bargain basement FA. That didn't work out so well.
-
People get too caught up in star power. You don't necessarily need All-Pros across the board when you have good talent across the board with no glaring weaknesses.
-
Nope. I'm letting Fitts sink or swim with this roster he has assembled. If he can find some FA pieces or swing some low level trades involving late round picks or non-core players, fine. But I'm not letting him trade anymore valuable assets either in terms of players or future picks trying to band aid up these shotgun wounds. This is either gonna work or we're in the GM market this off-season.

I mean, there's probably folks sitting in boardrooms who could score very well on the S2 test but they lack the physical ability to play QB in the NFL. At some point there are simply physical prerequisites that no amount of mental ability will be able to overcome. I hope Bryce is on the right side of that line.
-
I just hope he doesn't get ruined behind this OL or can at least show enough that this doesn't become his only shot to make it as a starter. The Bills' pass rush without Von Miller doesn't hold a candle to what teams like Philly and Dallas are gonna bring. The Commanders better get a helluva screen and quick slants game going because they're going to have to scheme to slow down a pass rush with their OL powerless to do it themselves.
-
98 out of 99 on the S2 cognitive test plus this = well, we'll find out Bryce is going to be a test case on whether elite mental tool can make up for subpar physical ability. And yes, I realize the above RAS is only factoring in physical size but let's be real... Bryce dipped out on drills and athleticism testing for a reason.
-
I didn't see the 4th one but the first three were all under pressure or actually being hit in the act of throwing. All three were balls he should've just ate and taken the sack so that's on him but their pass protection was possibly the worst I've ever personally seen at the NFL level which is a powerful statement from a long time Panthers fan.
-
They have the most talented offense in the NFL. We traded our only legit WR and a ton of draft capital to go get our franchise QB. When you make a move like that it's because you think you're getting a guy that you don't have to surround with elite talent because your ability to do so is going to be severely limited. We're going to have to be wizards in FA and the mid-late rounds to make this experiment work. Ultimately, yeah I think the Tua comparison is apt but our ability to recreate what the Dolphins have is going to be a real uphill battle.

Our OC essentially took a promotion for a pay raise and a job in title only. I hope it works out for him but did he really get sold on Reich being Andy Reid or something. Hell, for that matter has that approach really worked out for Eric Bieniemy? He ended up making a lateral move to go try to run an offense with a Ron Rivera OL. Best of luck buddy!
-
He has a ton of NFL experience. That was the key qualification Tepper was looking for. The Panthers are starting to develop quite the habit under Tepper of thinking they can fix a problem by doing the exact opposite of their previous mistake.
