Yeah, I would expect them to ride with Cousins next year while Penix rehabs then likely try to bring in competition the following year. Cousins isnt great and is over the hill but hes a steady veteran useful for installing a new system. Hell, they may draft a mid-rounder this year as a developmental guy with the idea he becomes the long-term backup and hopefully more down the line. Something that should be squarely in the table for us too.

I've been a huge Purdy detractor but I'm pretty close to admitting I'm wrong about him. Him keeping them in the mix this season despite a laundry list of injuries is pretty damn impressive.

The amount of injuries the Niners have dealt with this year is just insane.
