Bryce has certainly given the S2 test a massive black eye. At the end of the day, you HAVE to have the physical prerequisites. There's a lot of former player coaches who weren't much as players but are clearly very smart and have a great understanding for the game. They had it between the ears, they just didn't have the physical tools to translate it. It's damn hard to determine the guys who will be able to read an NFL defense pre-snap, then either confirm or reject their initial read and assess the defense in a split second as utter chaos happens around them, then deliver a frozen rope 40 yards to a just barely open receiver while a 300 pound freak athlete is mere feet away from pile driving you into the turf. The full package is very hard to evaluate. But it's not that hard to determine if the guy has the ability to simply make the throw. That's why the Bryce evaluation was so baffling.

Their first sub-40 degree win was against the Bears in week 17 of 2002. They were 0-21 prior to that.

Chark isn't good. Neither is Hurst. Neither is Sanders. But they were all way worse with Bryce at QB.

I've never seen a player make so many people fall in love so much with the person and the narrative that they completely ignore all the massive red flags flying high.

Just look at the physical attributes. How many of Houston's big plays could Bryce have actually made? Throwing downfield with defenders in his face. Throwing downfield while being hit. Bryce can't do those things. Everything has to go perfectly for Bryce to be able to effectively throw down the field. I will happily eat my crow if Bryce looks like his Alabama self next year under another staff but it ain't gonna happen.

It's true. It would suck hard if we drafted him #1 overall after earning that pick. But drafting him after trading up from #9 and then handing the next year's #1 overall to the Bears as just part of the overall package is just *chef's kiss*

Nope. When the pocket gets muddy he can't see down the field and even if he could he doesn't have the arm to get the ball down the field unless he has an airport runway to step into and through the throw.

I don't think he has the humility to do that. He still probably thinks he just hired the wrong coaching staff to unleash the super processing. I'll be surprised if he ever acknowledged his mistake. It'll always be the failure of the staffs. I just wonder how many coaches he'll let Bryce bury?

I would've called a timeout there and at least forced the punt to see what came of it.
