Panthers interested in Landon Collins
LinvilleGorge replied to Kuech the Sneak's topic in Carolina Panthers
I see stuff like this mentioned a lot for prospects, but how often does it actually happen. Instinct by definition cannot be improved, it's something you're born with. Some guys just see things on the field better than others. You can improve your pre-snap read abilities, but once that ball snaps, you either have the feel for the game or you don't. I don't think it can be coached.- 84 replies

If the top 4 WRs go in the first 12 picks, I'd prefer to look elsewhere at #25. IMO, those top 4 WRs are about as close to sure things as you're going to find in the draft, but after that there's a pretty steep drop off but a lot of depth. I'm not convinced there's a big difference between the #5 WR and the #10 WR.

Panthers interested in Landon Collins

I'm on the fence. Always depends on who else is available. Also depends on how Gettleman and Rivera envision him being used and what they think about Tre Boston. Do they think he's a legit center fielder type FS? IMO, that's what you'd need beside Collins. If you have that type of safety to handle the deep coverage and can allow Collins to roam, that gets interesting. For awhile now, I've been on that Jaelen Strong wagon. If he's there, I want him.- 84 replies

It's hard to be much better of a prospect at safety than #7 overall. Make no mistake, Barron was a BIG TIME prospect coming out of Alabama. Certainly heard a lot more clamor about him leading up to the 2012 draft than you're hearing about Collins right now. If anything, the main thing you can kind of infer about Collins is that he's the #1 safety by default with this being considered a weak overall safety class.- 84 replies

That's right, Gettleman wasn't here when Barron was drafted. I knew the Panthers were high on him.- 84 replies

With Cam? Very possible. With little Russell Wilson? Not a chance. -

No huge uproar from me, but I would have Rivera ahead of Zimmer and McCoy right now. Arians at #4 is also wildly overrated. Just not a long enough track record to put him anywhere near that high. -
Mr. Richardson did flex muscles regarding Hardy

Change the definitions if you like. Not sure why you're so mad. It's weird. -

You said fans who thought he would be willing to sign a team friendly deal were delusional. He signed a team friendly deal. -

The contract he signed with the Cowboys is "team friendly". There is zero guaranteed money in that contract. All but $750k of it is based on workout bonuses, per game bonuses, and performance bonuses. -
I'm at the point where I assume Bersin won't make the team. I think we'll add another vet and another rookie in the draft. KB, rookie, vet, Ginn, Brown. We rollin' with that.

This is all I ask. We need a veteran presence in the WR corps and he'd do that while being an upgrade over Cotchery on the field.
-
This. Right now, we need Cotchery for that veteran presence. Jennings would provide that same type of presence with a significant upgrade on the field.
-
Yes. PLEASE. Sign Jennings, let Cotchery go.

So Whatever Happened to That DB We Drafted from WV?
LinvilleGorge replied to SetfreexX's topic in Carolina Panthers
Serious question... is there anything you don't consider "trash"? Seems like 95% of your posts these days involve calling something or multiple things "trash". After listening to Kevin White break down coverages and routes during his visits to the studio of NFLN, I'd definitely disagree with you there. Plus, you can't call a guy with his production a "workout wonder". -

Not necessarily. I hated the Kugzilla pick. I think Gettleman has done a pretty damn good job so far, but I'm not a blind nuthugger. -

But for real, I thought Ike Taylor had legitimately killed him. -

It was a dumb pick. I know that seems obvious in hindsight, but Hurney spent the 1st pick of the 4th round on a CB coming off of a torn ACL with a laundry list of off-field issues. That's the type of guy that almost always goes undrafted. To make matters worse, he spent the pick before that, the last pick of the 3rd round on the legendary Sione Fua. -
That just doesn't make any sense. He's a pretty middle of the road TE. Greg Olsen probably just called his agent and said, "WTF??!!!"

This may be the dumbest saying I've ever heard. Some of the most worthless people I've ever known were rich spoiled brats. In fact, this saying sounds like something they'd say.- 49 replies

Alan "Blue Balls" Ball leaves Panther offer on table

Likely has plenty of agent and other insider contacts and gets word of things and passes them along. In other words, he just does his job and does it well. Panthers fans just aren't used to a beat writer who actually does this.
