Has a star player in his prime ever publicly demanded a trade and there not been this period of stand off? Teams don't want to part with star players in their prime unexpectedly. Especially at QB. Even if he gets traded, this process is completely expected.

What Carolina and others offered for Stafford
LinvilleGorge replied to Calboyz13's topic in Carolina Panthers
No reason not to be right now. No trade can be made official for another month and a half, so might as well try to get (or force) Watson to change his mind in the meantime. It's not like they're going to need time and effort to drum up a trade market if and when the time comes. -

I think he will likely be traded but there's no guarantee. -
What Carolina and others offered for Stafford

A) there's no guarantee that Watson will definitely be traded B) Watson will command a much richer trade haul than Stafford C) the Jets are reportedly Watson's preferred destination and it'll be very difficult for the Panthers to build a more attractive offer than they can -

Jets checked in. I never bought that they were sold on sticking with Darnold. I'm still not at all convinced they don't take a QB at #3. -
Carolina Panthers 1st round draft mini breakdown
LinvilleGorge replied to Verge's topic in 2023 NFL Draft
That game was a microcosm of his college career. Looked atrocious at times, but flashed tremendous talent at other times. -
The Rams reached out and were told to pound sand.

Panthers offered "More than a 1st" for Stafford
LinvilleGorge replied to ncfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
If they passed on our #8, I have to think they're not gonna go after a QB in the draft. Being able to package #7 and #8 together would've been powerfully tempting for the Jets and/or Dolphins if they're sticking with their current QBs. -
Panthers offered "More than a 1st" for Stafford

What this tells me is that we're all in on upgrading the QB position this off-season. If the Watson talks get cranking we'll be in them. If we need to trade up in the draft, we'll be making calls. I don't know if anything will work out, but I'm confident we'll be trying. -
I can't see them taking on both of those contracts. Especially Shaq's. You're getting an elite player in CMC but overpaid non-pass rushing LBs who struggle in coverage aren't exactly an asset.
-
There's a LOT of truth to this. Don't get me wrong, 1st round picks are VERY valuable, but due to our history I think Panthers fans have a skewed concept of that value because of how bad Hurney was in the mid-rounds. Everyone is throwing darts at the board in the later rounds, but you need to be filling out the meat of your roster with those mid-rounders.
-
He's not a pass rusher and he struggles in coverage. He IS underperforming. You can find clean up tacklers at the LB position for cheap.
-
This is why. He's a one year rental and then you have to rework that contract or cut him.
-
The tweet said young starters. Who else are you offering? They're not taking Shaq's contract. One of the reason they're going to want "young" is the rookie contracts
-
Them taking Bridgewater would probably cost us an additional 2nd.
-
Glad I wasn't the only one who read that like
-
Yeah, if it came down to two 1sts, two 2nds, plus say Burns and Chinn or they were going to accept another offer on the table then I'd wish them the best of luck with that other offer.
-
Fitts specifically mentioned Jackson when he was talking about our core young defensive players. I think he was actually the second name out of his mouth if I recall correctly. It shocked me too, but evidently we're really high on Jackson. Turf toe is a bitch.
-
I'd consider that. I'd try to get at least a mid-rounder or two back from them. Two 1sts, two 2nds, and two defensive starters is a STEEP ask.
-
Think we could sell them on Shaq?
-
So, basically it would be two 1sts, two 2nds, and two of Burns, Chinn, and Brown. Sorry, I just can't do it. I'd LOVE to have Watson but I can't do that. That's basically the equivalent of four 1sts and two 2nds.

I think they just had Cousins rated too highly to pass on him at that point. Turns out they were right. He's definitely not one of the league's best QBs but he was still a helluva value in the 4th.
-
You're not wrong. More and more spread offenses create more opportunity for the QB to use his legs.
