If it is a late first it isn’t really that great a deal.

ALERT: Mike Garafalo, Panthers taking RB in 2nd round

I am old school and would love it but for a bunch of years think you can along pretty well with good or excellent but not quite special. Case in point Kamara in the 3rd vs CMC top 10. -
Revisiting the Bryce Young trade…. Don’t open this thread

It is literally the anniversary there, WUnderhill. The one year anniversary of what right now looks like it was pretty damned destructive to our favorite football team. I bet next year sucks too about the 2nd round but NOWHERE near what last night gave us. -
Revisiting the Bryce Young trade…. Don’t open this thread

At the time it seemed it was more valuable than any single pick. A young, ‘cheap’ (lol) proven WR that was a 1st rounder. I mean, look, the results are: Chicago traded the top pick in a down year for the top pick in a more fruitful year, plus a truckload of assets. And Carolina passed on the one guy that showed he was in consideration to be worth that. That is worse mojo than just Black Cat luck. -

I am always torn. I understand the value of a great back that can also catch ands RAC, the value thing makes me prefer having an OL that makes a great back unnecessary. -

If that is true, they don’t want anybody running. -

Yeah I think you have to, he can play his position. Just hope he can stay healthy. -

Knew I was gonna open it. Inside of 8 months we will know if Young is going to be any good at all. And depending on that, if the Williams selection was the kill shot that sends it into HOF level ineptitude. -
Panthers Select Xavier Legette WR - Pick 32, Round 1

Camp and preseason heroes... Who remembers Walter Young? I wasn’t there to know but I might view it more as was capable of fixing NFL QBs, Tepper wants him to fix Young or get his guy in here if he can’t. I don’t see how anybody could be that excited over a game manager, that really wants to win a Super Bowl. If that is all Young can be, then you let Canales get his guy. -
Panthers Select Xavier Legette WR - Pick 32, Round 1

There was a story about last year draft evaluations and he studies Young for due diligence. They met, and Canales had picked up a slight adjustment Young had made standing a little more upright. Young said no other team noticed, or maybe I should say asked about it. He has a track record of having helped QBs. He had seasons of being an NFL WR coach. 2010-1017 he coached WRs at Seattle. Who had a very similar, to what we have, player throwing the ball to them. I don’t know how smart That makes but he has real experience with a successful team dealing with somethjing that looks a lot like this. I say it every coach search: they all have to grow into the job. It is different than what they had done. Plenty of first time NFL HCs say stuff like that. He will have to learn too. I think what we have with this richer than normal owner is, it is no sweat to pay a guy to run the D, who is head coach level talented. Which leaves Canales more free to get the offensive side going, and spend his time doing what he has shown to be good at. I wasn’t against hiring Reich but think Canales offers a bit more, potentially. via the WR coaching aspect -
Inside LB or C would be okay with me. I’m not gonna say I know which guys are studs and which aren’t, I don’t research a 100 college guys and don’t watch very much NCAAF at all.

Why do I think Bill B has a shot at Atlanta GM President of Football Operations all of a sudden? A more fun question is, could you imagine Tepper’s reaction to the same situation?

Panthers Select Xavier Legette WR - Pick 32, Round 1

Absolutely the deep ball opens it all up. I definitely agree that the defense has to fear the vertical game enough to honor it. I do not definitely agree that we have a QB that poses much of a vertical threat. If he is actually able to launch a ball 55 yards it will probably be a total rainbow. Like Wilson. Okay. Whatever. You have to get guys that can do what those WRs did for Wilson. And I didn’t think any of those guys that I remember as being like, top WRs. I thought they were pretty average for NFL WRs. Which is a positive in terms of can we get that going here. Legette is a guy that can win the jump when he has to come back to a downfield throw. Yes. I really just was so confused watching this offense last season, early on. It looked Nothing like what I expected and you heard what I thought about that. Why that was. I have hopes we will see more of what I expected to see last year, stuff designed around and tailored to the QB’s abilities. -
Youth pastor. Lol. But yep. There is something about Canales that I can’t my finger on, but it is probably that he is a bit like a televangelist and I am not entirely sure the facade is real. But I am a cynic basically, anyway. His football resume is good enough for me. We’ll see how the season goes. I do agree with the Morgan/Canales team. There is a lot of synergy, and I think they can Stay on the same page too. I mean, right now they are aligned, but will that last? I think so. Obviously there would need to be some success involved for that to happen but these two are the best things have been since we were taken over by that carpetbagger.

Everything goes through the QB, Navy and you know this. Okay I’ll bite, edit to add: Downfield, this guy can maybe be helpful too, as he will go after that ball. And Young has been inaccurate downfield. I don’t expect that to get accurate because of Canales or two big guards (which are all positives I think), he wasn’t accurate in school either and I struggle to see that changing.. When I imagine Russel Wilson in the early days of his success I see rainbows and jump balls and had little love for that. Okay it was beating us that day but that stuff, I don’t respect it. And I have said from the jump that Bryce is like, a Wilson. -

You might be right. I haven’t done a ton of film watching the WRs. I stopped spending all the time on that stuff a while ago and only did it last year on QB because of that trade. I am probably guilty of fitting the guy to what I see at QB, and excluding guys with certain tools because I don’t think would be truly utilized.. -

They all lack something. And beating college guys, no doubt even the best college players beast up with a year and an offseason in the NFL. You ain’t playing the college version of them again, that is gone. -

I am not trashing Mingo I think this new guy can run away from more people. You get a versatile RB, and put WRs out there that the defense has to account for every one of them, we might find some more slack to attack. I haven’t really bitched about the WRs we have but they didn’t scare anyone. Not a single one that we have. I don’t how it will work out but I see this dude 10-15 yards downfield winning jump balls and breaking a tackle or two on some of them. I just think he can be physically stronger than these cornerbacks, and he has the jets too. And good hands. I don’t know how smart he is, or needs to be for that matter but I think his challenges will come more on the mental side. -

I liked him too. Was leaning that way but I think this guy might better fit what the Panthers are going to have to become if they want to have any chance at success. -

He can throw a slant though. This guy has the YAC, some speed and power that I have not seen in Mingo nor Marshall. -
Panthers Select Xavier Legette WR - Pick 32, Round 1

My skepticism is on the QB, it all stems from him. He has to be brave enough and good enough to throw the ball into a smaller window. This guy will fight for the ball and has the tools to win those battles. And he has the body and speed to advance the ball once he has it. -
I am no Fowler fan but this is funny. Tepper needs to suffer for what he has put fans through. He ruined at least few years for me all by himself.
