Where would the Panthers be if they sat Bryce Young last season?
strato replied to hepcat's topic in Carolina Panthers
In the first place he wouldn’t ever have sat the whole season. I agree that it is likely Reich wasn’t fired when he was Dalton though... he didn’t get reps with those players and it was a new playbook too. i feel like had he gotten more reps and a couple or three games to get comfortable taking reps all week we’d have seen better results than in Seattle. Which okay the defense may have been weak but the crowd and noise made up for it. Weren’t there like, 8 false starts or something? -
People are going to grab him and push him and make it look like he did something. But if they don’t do it right and he gets it in space it’ll be fun to watch.

Corral didn’t have poo which basically puts us in the same place in the standings, hmm. I think you’d have been on to something. edit: and yeah I’m all for fliers on fallen QB prospects. 2nd day is even better. Just do it until you get lucky.

Sounds a lot like what I watched on Sundays last year he will feel comfortable. edit, and Legette was so wide open on a lot of them. Which won’t be happening much.

Darn right about undoing that trade. Anything else was better than what happened.

Panthers Select Jonathan Brooks RB - 46th Pick, Round 2

And you are facing better defenses the deeper you go, you have to keep them honest. -
19:15 in that video Wallace chases Legette down. 20:45 Legette wins one.

Why Corbett (and Brady Christensen) will make good Centers
strato replied to MHS831's topic in Carolina Panthers
I remember him mostly because he is associated with a bot peeve. That bot mocks us you know.... hey the team is poo again, look over there>>> distracts with a sympathetic story about the OL handing out plates at the shelter for an hour. I don’t remember reading he was really struggling on the field, but I do remember his dad is a gourmet chef and sends meat to Zavalla to feed to the team. And I remember that irritating the hell out of me for some crazy reason when I saw him standing perfectly still and watching stunting pass rushers as they go by. -

I am gonna say, it has to be on the concern list. OTOH it isn’t last year. The two guys flanking the C are going to be a bit more help than the guys we had. I mean, I didn’t know why Zavala was on the team after watching his misadventures last season. -
Panthers Select Xavier Legette WR - Pick 32, Round 1
strato replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
So I was looking for any Wallace vs Legette in these clips. Nothing in Wallace’s highlights. I found him imn a Legette TD but he was on the backside it was away from him. Probably a good thing I can’t find them, and have to work through them making each other look good/bad. -

There is something to that in the big picture. Some defense will be concocted that slows down the latest offensive trend and the pendulum swings for a while. Seems like the running game comes up big in those periods of change. Things go back to fundamentals. -

The Florida dude is going to a much better environment, no matter what he does I don’t think you can extrapolate that performance to here, with this QB. So who knows. Here, it will be a good test for the young OC, getting him involved in a helpful way. -

Came across this -
About what? the QB or the offense? For the QB, last year it was the first padded practices where negative reviews, or reports of struggles, happened. He is okay playing catch in shorts.

Didn’t we used to run zone with Fox and Stephen Davis or was it later? Annyway, I think Canales is probably well versed in more than one offensive school, but has decided to break it down and get the training wheels out. I don’t think it will look like Dan Henning (who I liked) when we do throw. I’m looking forward to seeing the twists he comes up with. -
In all probability, whoever is in the Number 1 for Manning won’t be selling the pick. And if Young is still here it will be because we got better than worst in the league. So it probably wouldn’t be us.

I do see a really methodical way the team could compete on offense. But I don’t see the field getting stretched far enough, often enough to win enough games and it all has to go just right. There isn’t much margin. Guarantee Red Zone will be better if we ever get down there. I mean if there is one team used to operating in tight quarters....=== and I think we have everything for down close except a short yardage ram.

Panthers Select Trevin Wallace LB - Pick 72, Round 3
strato replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
I don’t think this guy is near as unfinished. edit: a team Captain at Kentucky as a Junior. That’s getting a quality person. Which if he can’t play won’t matter but let’s see. I think he looks pretty good. -

And don’t you dare text in and tell them any Bryce criticism. EDIT: as far as LBs ands Wilson, man I would love to have him but those injuries are part of the deal. They are scary. -

It looks like 4.5mil dead cap for the 3rd and 4th year (total), seems like this will the last year we are affected. -
What is typical about any aspect of this? Other than it looks like a typical Tepper QB fail? Point being, a non typical result could happen, and who would be surprised? Not me. The surprise would be a right decision. Which, I am ready for. Whatever it is. With all due respect to shrimp QBs with NFL ambition, they can try. I hope my team never again wants to be the guinea pig for that lobby. Unless it is day two or three. Let someone else deal with it.

Here it is afaic: RBs all come in, coaches put them in the hopper and figure out who they like best. Despite Sanders’ money.... I mean I would lean towards using him, but I guess there is the chance someone beats him out. In the case of someone else being clearly better, I would take whatever hit came with releasing him (and I think he deserves that to happen in time to allow him to find another job). Right now he can get there and compete, like the rest of the team should be doing.
