I was trying to say that maybe after spending on Cousins the Falcons had a commitment downgrade, second thoughts. I mean, they aren’t playing around with making sure they are competitive at QB.

BREAKING: Panthers signing Rashad Penny
strato replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
yeah, we don’t get any or probably very little benefit from cutting Sanders we need to ride it out this year. And I agree on expecting better with a better line in front of him. He looked so ’not good' I wondered if he was playing through something. I have a feeling he could mildly surprise people. -
Panthers plan to revisit signing Stephon Gilmore after draft

Jackson 5? Man that poo that was running with 5 children and making big time money.././ they were getting paid in ice cream more or less. -
Maybe Cousins coming off an achilles (a speed robbing injury) influenced their decision? Second thoughts about the level of commitment? A hedge? Probably.

Where would the Panthers be if they sat Bryce Young last season?
strato replied to hepcat's topic in Carolina Panthers
It has come down to.. I don’t see what Young does, that virtually every other NFL QB can’t do as well or better. Like, there is nothing I can think of. There must be something but I can’t find it. Who has a weaker arm? Most players, you say okay a weak arm maybe but xxxx makes for it. What is his xxxx? They did allow him to do a QB sneak, I think, but he has to be one of the last guys you'd call a keeper for. A designated Hail Mary thrower was put in the lineup for him. Canales has his work cut out. -
I liked most of it. Any chance to see Luke talk football is good to me. And the rest of the guys from yesteryear. The whole thing made me feel like it was supposed to. Waiver wire, you have to take their current contract if you claim someone, so we’ll see how it goes. But hey, we’re 1st in something.

Yeah, I don’t know. It was news to me.

Looked for a Tepper thread to ask this. Did people know that when Ben Navarro was still in play to buy the team, he asked John Lynch to run things for him? Listening to a Lynch interview he makes the claim (really bored, but hey, I never hear that one).

It would be.

I, unpopularly, hold the opinion that Reich was shocked at Young’s lacks. What he could not do. I think that is why we saw the neutered offense. That I never expected. I didn’t expect the lack of gadget plays and stuff schemed to hide Young’s inadequacies. I think Brown being overly involved had something to do with Frank apparently just checking out on the reimagining of the offense after what they saw Jets scrimmage week (the week the pads came out). edit I am not sure exactly when Frank really checked out but he obviously did. -

I don’t like it, but they had the refs too. -

I am not sure there is a coach that can shine Bryce Young to be what he is not (and I feel will never be), in the NFL. If you can’t hit a deep ball you are just no big threat to an NFL defense, even the bad ones. -

All I have to say to this really, is it sounds nice and downgrades Stroud to make Young look better is more like what this take does. Look at the WR numbers the year before and then the year with Stroud. He made them better, not the other way around. That’s my opinion. I appreciate you designating that it was yours. Many state these things as facts. -

Underhill, it was being discussed At The Time. The lack of deep balls. One reason Dalton got hit, yes, was standing in and delivering a deep ball. It’s just a lot quicker to say wake the fug up where have you been. -
I don’t see how a pro could miss stuff that took me 15 minutes to see. Never understood how they could not see it.

It looked to me like the later rounds were littered with gifts to position coaches. How well versed on why this corner at 176 vs the other one, is Tepper going to be?
-
For sure, any college scout that touted Bryce Young as worth the first overall pick, needs to be gone. I don’t think the college scouts are so much the issue, I think it is the minds of the decision makers that have the most influence. If this draft produces, and Morgan was really in charge, maybe Tepper will develop some respect and stay back and let people work.

I just am not aware of regimens that offer increased velocity which is the biggest weakness I can see in Young (that needs addressing right now). Is it possible to do? Who has done it that we can see as an example? I guess I am saying before I believe weights will give him added zip on the ball, I would want proof that it works. I think weight room would help him not be pulled down by two fingers, even if they are big strong DL fingers. They are still fingers controlling 185 lbs. So that needs to be addressed but it is a secondary issue behind his footwork and ball velocity. It might help too, in allowing him to retain some velocity while not putting 100% effort into throws. Which should help his ‘deep’ ball. I agree they can’t fix his footwork on those pistol or gun snaps where he slowly goes backwards and does the tippy toe thing. Maybe putting him under center and taking the option of that type of drop away from him, forcing him into the classic under center style. Drop and plant and throw. Maybe that would help get around it.
-
Frank, you know what I think about Young’s arm (subpar). I don’t understand how weight lifting helps get velocity on a throw. Maybe lower body stuff combined with streamlining and tightening up his mechanics?

There were deep routes called. There had been I think, two called in one game one in the other. Don’t hold me to those numbers but... It was a thing. Especially after preseason. I’ll let someone else give their perspective. -

What Dalton was really all about is the deep routes weren’t being called or run with Bryce Young lol ‘under’ center. All of a sudden we had them again. Why do you Young faithful think that was, exactly? Or what the point to take away was? We drafted a QB and sold 2 farms to do it and the coach really is on the hot seat because he wants to bench him. Why would he possibly have wanted to bench him? Well maybe Dalton showed us that (?!). Maybe try and be realistic. -
Yeah there were complaints made I focused elsewhere knowing they do the draft and then make their retentions, releases, new hires etc. I guess they have some candidates in mimd.
