I'd say at the cellular level, yes. With mandates or conditions placed on the hires in regards to Evero, and Young. After that I think he is probably trying to stay more hands-off than he has been (no fun for him).

How surpised were you at how the team looked(Game 1 Edition)?

I went with '3'. After watching Young last year, you had to be aware that that performance could happen. He hasn't proven much in the way of good, but there was hope for seeing some of the near field point guard throws be at least somewhat effective. Was very surprised to see that slack run defense. I knew there were issues elsewhere. -
They are doing the opposite of what I'd do and it is probably because they asked him what plays he likes... what is he best at? I thought the best chance he would have would be in taking that away from him, putting him i that rigid frame of taking a quick decisive drop, and stepping straight into your (well) under 2.7 second throw. Change his routine so much he didn't have a chance to revert. I know how radical that is but desperate situations call for desperate measures. He only has that run around backyard thing going for him otherwise. But he is 5'9" or something so... can't step up and know where it is going..

Young's footwork did indeed revert to the ingrained mechanics they are trying to fix; the new has not taken. It may take at some point but that is a very high hurdle. I would have expected the defense to be more together but they are full of new people some of whom are basically street FAs. I am going with I knew this could happen, and it did, but it was one week. They got their asses kicked and it is probably good for them to be embarrassed. Long season stick to the plan.

Bryce could be a future cautionary tale...
strato replied to micnificent28's topic in Carolina Panthers
They have to go through the charade of adding the weapons and the guards and repeating the experiment with the different controls for the people who refuse to accept what they are seeing and have to be hit on the head with it. Like the owner for one. edit: even I have a hard time thinking he is as bad as he was yesterday. Or will be every time. But real defenses make a huge difference it isn't flag football yet. -
I missed that in Mayfield and wasn't feeling him being signed. And this is two years later but I gave him little chance.

Yes. People are so impatient (or unrealistic I dunno). This was always going to be a season of dental appointments, not parties.

I guess my point is, preseason wasn't going to do it to the degree it needs doing. Whether or not they got their time in preseason, it was going to extend into the season and for much of it. I guess I am falling behind, because the truisms that were held by about everyone don't seem to be holding. Such as, it takes time to judge young WRs, OLs need reps as a unit for continuity, two examples. I am not sure how much was lost, but if you will accept that I accept we lost something... just less than what you think... we can move on.

Yeah I didn't really convey that what I was saying was I see him understanding where things are, that his secret is out. He has never failed before and is coming to terms with it, it is in his voice. Monotone, mumbling more than enunciating. Also, he is on the end of the bench because he leads like Custer. In Nam he might get fragged. He is neutered in that regard until HE changes it.

This is insightful and it was happening just like you say.

Best and worst Performances from Saints Game
strato replied to Chad_Cota's topic in Carolina Panthers
That is a very good way to put it. He was dogging it, not being a dog. If the bench had been longer, he'd have been farther towards the end of it. -

That is kind of the nutshell explanation. Besides just wasting everything indulging this fantasy. -
Good enough to fool a lot of posters? (or tweeters, or media minds) You don't think he did that? I said every time that we need to wait for (what passes for) real football before we get any answers. I'm all out of beer and pie btw.

He is a player that can look good with the red don't hit me jersey, in 7 on 7 and all that.

You cannot start Bryce Young again. He is not an NFL player.

My favorite rant so far Well, crap. It is the audio that has the gold more than the video. The guy is ranting about Bruce - hyped, non filtered stuff that could have been posted right here, and has been in a bit more PC way. He doesn't hold back. -
I watched his postgame comments. Mumble mumble I suck and can’t keep hiding it is what it sounded like to me. He wanted to be elsewhere and I don’t blame him. Gonna be a tough one next week if it is the same type of showing. If only Gettleman were here to draft some really tall WRs….

All out of pie today. I agreed with the most people on here ever I think lol. -
I saw Carr point at the scoreboard but only caught the end of it. Didn’t see who our guy was. Ha …

Good picture. I have been waiting to get a look one like that. I think Smith-Wade is about that size too. 204#, rotflmao as they used to say. Sure…. -
I thought the run D would be much better. I don’t know. I honestly half heartedly watched it and just got to the point I didn’t want to rewatch much so I didn’t get a lot of out it. If I did rewatch I would try to find a couple of spots where guys made business decisions after the score got to a place. As far as OP, I never thought that the defense was considered a strength this year. It was downgraded and they admitted they are waiting for someone to take the job in two positions. I might be able to stomach watching later this week because it is something I’d like to look at… how the defense did. I wasn’t too upset when it went to 7-0 because I missed the busted TD play. I had figured NO would do well with the first scripted set of plays.
-
I think you look at the arc of the defense this year. If it is ascending then I don’t see where he lost any shot at all. This whole thing is being redone and he has to get a pretty motley crew playing together and showing improvement. Do that, over the course of the next 17 weeks and he’ll have done a very good job. IMO.

Who are You Drafting with the #1 Pick of 2025???
strato replied to Hoenheim's topic in Carolina Panthers
Number one overall? It would figure to be a year nothing anyone wants to trade up for, would be the year we have it. Who best fits Canales is what I would say, and I got no idea about the many individual QBs at this point. It will be a little bit before I would say specifically what we need the most otherwise but if there is an all world DE I’d say we could use one. Trade back to him. Sign a QB that Canales likes. Draft one he likes too. I don’t care who, it is a guaranteed upgrade. -
S Fowler ‘not sure Young will ever work out’
strato replied to raleigh-panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
Bryce Young, the results are back. You are NOT the daddy! -
I will only say that Lewis was MIA a lot so what was the big progress they were going to make? They simply didn’t have the starting OL together until the damned opener. Not happy about at all but what can you do?

Okay look, this Was preseason. It will be practice in game conditions again next week and the following week as well. Just about everyone here picked them to win 4 or 5 games and knows they have to play to get better. More than a preseason series or two. Today I am indulging in dogging Bryce because it is pent up a long time and after today I can say about whatever mean derogatory poo about him I could think of and people would just give me pie. But I think he will be much better, if he lasts a few weeks. But the reality of this is that this whole season is practice for 2025. And when we don’t have to deal with such a horrible QB, whether Bryce fixes his poo or moves on and it is another guy. However that plays out. We are going to get a lot of practice.
