I think you look at the arc of the defense this year. If it is ascending then I don’t see where he lost any shot at all. This whole thing is being redone and he has to get a pretty motley crew playing together and showing improvement. Do that, over the course of the next 17 weeks and he’ll have done a very good job. IMO.

Who are You Drafting with the #1 Pick of 2025???
strato replied to Hoenheim's topic in Carolina Panthers
Number one overall? It would figure to be a year nothing anyone wants to trade up for, would be the year we have it. Who best fits Canales is what I would say, and I got no idea about the many individual QBs at this point. It will be a little bit before I would say specifically what we need the most otherwise but if there is an all world DE I’d say we could use one. Trade back to him. Sign a QB that Canales likes. Draft one he likes too. I don’t care who, it is a guaranteed upgrade. -
S Fowler ‘not sure Young will ever work out’

Bryce Young, the results are back. You are NOT the daddy! -
I will only say that Lewis was MIA a lot so what was the big progress they were going to make? They simply didn’t have the starting OL together until the damned opener. Not happy about at all but what can you do?

You cannot start Bryce Young again. He is not an NFL player.

Okay look, this Was preseason. It will be practice in game conditions again next week and the following week as well. Just about everyone here picked them to win 4 or 5 games and knows they have to play to get better. More than a preseason series or two. Today I am indulging in dogging Bryce because it is pent up a long time and after today I can say about whatever mean derogatory poo about him I could think of and people would just give me pie. But I think he will be much better, if he lasts a few weeks. But the reality of this is that this whole season is practice for 2025. And when we don’t have to deal with such a horrible QB, whether Bryce fixes his poo or moves on and it is another guy. However that plays out. We are going to get a lot of practice. -
The saying is that the best deals are sometimes the ones you don’t make. If only we could say that about Bruce. oh, and the year… we are completely in another wasted year. The hole digging has not stopped yet. For some damned reason.

My first thought was I bet his knees creak. When I got in my 30s is when I had to go home and ice my knees after a softball game. I saw Bruce slip a couple of people last year and get to the sticks but he does not need to be doing that. Besides injury, there is not much ball security if they can get a hand on him.

Bryce could be a future cautionary tale...
strato replied to micnificent28's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yeah to that but the team knew all about this scenario (because he isn’t an isolated case) and still took him. The pro day was the big red flag for me. Deal breaker. -
You must like to argue lol.

Yeah I thought the same of Sanders the RB. Something to prove, there. The OL made a couple of fugups with doubling inside and leaving a guy unblocked. clearly remember Corbett and pretty sure it was between him and Hunt. But that is to be expected and is something that can be fixed.
-
Well….. he has designed the O for a college QB. Sold out to it I bet. Makes it harder to just slip a pocket guy in, I would think. I surely don’t know what they have done in that regard. But that would be my caveat. and good way to put it, overlaps.

Late round stuff, look at the team we just played. Look in their QB room. I would take either of those backups over Bryce Young. Today. Even. But when I was only suspicious with no proof of Bruce being overwhelmed I still would have taken either where they were taken over Bryce where he was taken. All day. And sign a Carr for a year or two. I think they big time whipped our ass at swapping out the QB chairs.
-
There is a mentality represented here that would go there. But I don’t think reasonable people would do that before seeing him in a better situation. It is as hard to find a great HC as it is a QB so you want to be certain. To me, it is a parallel to the Bruce situation. Bad situation for judging in year one. And he has a better chance than Bruce does.
-
He may well suck at coaching but Knute Rockne could not have done anything with that situation. And he was nonsuck enough to know Bruce belonged on the bench. Of course I could see that and am no ex NFL QB coaching lifer.

We are talking Mac if he is still there. Total King of Bryce excuse makers. And nasty about it too, putting out the hate for doubters. I had to turn him off, but might tune in to hear him whimper.

Everyone should have seen the disaster around Bryce coming

Yeah, it was like when people burn the bridge behind them so they can’t go back. That is what the no competition was. -

Knowing what they had done to us, when the 2023 draft was over, was soul crushing. I knew it was a disastrous play and just hoped they couldn’t really be that stupid. They sold themselves into bondage to their decision by the size of the bet. They had to throw good money after bad to even just have any chance of it working. -
The QB outshines them all put together. But I did see some business decisions being made on defense.

Maybe I wasn’t clear by not specifying this season. Because it absolutely had to be a condition, or someone would be signing some competition. It is sink or swim Bryce Young. I’d go as far as to speculate that Canales went over contingencies (in the event of Young failing the test) before accepting or being hired. -

I would bet whatever, if I bet, that a condition of taking the job was Bryce Young is unquestionably the QB and you go from there. Morgan, Canales (certainly Canales), everybody. And I would also bet whatever that an ex really good NFL MLB would never select a guy like that to compete against NFL big dogs on D. And they are all big dogs. This year was all about seeing what he was. For blind people lol. Edit: okay I am being mean because I am sick of watching him take the field looking like a mistake just standing there. And sick of the shining on that has been done on his behalf. -
I said that too. The Bryce Stans’ go to resource.
-
Weaker players can only compete via excellent mechanics, he has little to maximize but it would be much better with everything working together. He would have a chance. It is one game, but the worry was that those rebuilt mechanics would fall away when the bullets started flying and we could see the difference in his 7 on 7 throws vs live action.

In Clausen’s defense, his head coach forced him to play out of spite to JR. And Hurney for picking him. Clausen was not ready and Fox really just fuged him over. He just wasn’t ready. He may have never been ready but he was thrown to the wolves. Young is so much of a different thing, he has been coddled and favored and propped and they have done everything they could to help him.
