I suspect the owners might come into play. And pressure.
-
Yardage based rankings are so full of holes. I do not trust them. So much chicken or egg comes into it. And when you get into the season, a team can be totally different than they were a month ago. Either direction, due to injuries or even simple improvement.
-
Not unreasonable. The OL and pass pro will be the key IMO.
-
I would go with we are in famine now, with those guys it was feast or maybe TV dinners with the occasional famine. 7-9 was the running joke when predicting the record for well over a decade.
-
I am just a hard head that is entrenched in the idea that if you played the game for real than you know what it takes. Better than someone who has not. And will not be so easily fooled by something like an S2, media opinions, and surely not bloated water weight at a weigh in And are likely to to value the physical toolkit because you have seen how big and fast and violent the game is up close. You had to compete with those players. Morgan said early on, it is a big man’s game. I don’t think he excludes QB from that paradigm but just cannot say so publicly until this all plays out. and maybe privately too right now.

Well, you aren’t really joking there but at the same time, talent will out. Cam in our case. Manning. All the guys that people pointed to when Bryce sucked his first year, and said they struggled too… It is such a crap shoot.. but better than it was before they slotted the pay into a reasonable stratosphere. Talk about killing your franchise paying the equivalent of modern day 50-60 million per, to a green rookie….

Yep and I can feel it about to happen to us.

Okay. I mean we are just discussing. I never saw Tua as being really a valid guy in tne league. But I am prejudiced against Alabama QBs because of their basic mediocre track records stepping up to the NFL so zi was probably predisposed and biased. But still correct. FWIW Bryce was such a physical outliee Bama didn’t really enter my thinking. It never became a factor for me. Anyhow Murray was kind of a toy, by my standards and not a guy I would have been excited by. Then it got to the contract clause of mandating film study and the game was lost right there. Why would you pay a guy you thought needed the stick instead of the carrot? I am just a tools first guy, for gaining admittance to move into the more thorough evaluation phase. It won’t change. I just have always been you have to meet the threshold physically before we consider your other areas of potential as a pro. Which I believe Jones passed that threshold. And has shown some flashes. Sure is doing it this year. The contention about what how pressure of a big contract might affect his performance, how the roster might lose a player or two two due to his salary precluding paying them, that is something else. If he continues to compete at this level like he is so far, I would put money on someone paying him though. And we will see what happens. oops forgot about Darnold. I saw it in him in late ‘22. The ability and him being on the cusp of getting it. He has lived up to the prove it deals, zi don’t know what they gave him in Seattle but it seems to be a good choice so far…

I just told you why. You don’t want to accept my contention. Your right People want to portray Frank as incompetent and a bad coach and bad judge of talent to bolster their Bryce excuse making for that first year. But Frank did not want him, and once he was saddled with him he tried to get them to sit the kid so he wouldn’t be embarrassed and could maybe learn and get a little more ready. He was not the bumbling idiot that many people portrayed him as. He was a fine judge of QB talent that had worked with some of the best. You will not easily fool a guy that played that position in tne league for many years and coached some great QBs, knowing full well what it takes to play the position in the NFL. You can debate his schemes all you want that is a different skill set from evaluating a player I mean, they didn’t fool me and Frank is like 1000 times more capable of making that determination than I am. It was cake for him. I see it as he found himself surrounded and outnumbered and went with the program as best he could. If you knew that everyone you work with (and you are new) had their minds made up - would you die on the lonely hill of dissent or would you just write the name down that you knew they were going to write down, and try to make it work? That is what I will believe he did until he corrects me.
-
He (Woody Johnson) might be even worse than Tepper in regards to blatant meddling. Which is a Cat 5 level disaster.
-
I had forgotten the little slips of paper thing. But they lie, okay? They just do. It is really important for the players that they present them with a unified front. Candor is not a priority. If you could look at Frank and see a man that was happy with the decision, you have something I don’t have.
-
It is the same now as it was in early 2023. He has no ‘plus’ physical traits as judged on an NFL level grading scale. Such a huge red flag. In looking for positives I think I would commend his resiliency more than anything he has done physically.
-
Those euro games seem to have a tendency to be stinkers, like the Thursday night games used to be. Might still be. I don’t ever know what to take away from them.
-
I think they will be able to exploit our ILBs, and will understand that. And will do it.
-
That is true. They were a play away from legit earning the top pick, while in contrast we were in the 9th slot and not viewed as the worst team, not close. We were seen by many, on the outside and here and in the building as being a player or two away from contending for the division.
-
I think the second is less than inevitable, yet still possible of course. That was kind of a circus in NYC. With a strong staff and the experience he has gotten out of his NYG time, it could be different.
-
Seemed very obvious that Frank didn’t want Bryce to be selected. And having put Bryce on him, Tepper compounded the error by ignoring Frank’s also obvious strong desire to sit him at first because of his atrocious footwork and just general unreadiness. poo show ensues.
-
That is reasonable. It is harder to quantify yardage expectations than to judge your criteria, IMO. Edit, PS. The leaving his feet to make a catch bothered me last year but then I saw (I forget who right now) a bona fide guy doing the same thing in the course of last year sometime and worried less about it. I thought hIs TD catch Sunday was pretty good fwiw.
-
Prediction? We likely lose. Maybe look okay doing it. It could be different with some turnovers coming to us. In general I don’t have the same faith in what we will get from Andy that I had in the week three games of the two previous years. I was very confident as to what we would see last year vs the Raiders and was validated. The patchwork OL worries me, in pass pro, with him being old and creaky and not exactly being ‘cat like’ in his escapability. And somewhat concerned about his arm strength. I mean in general, I think he could still be ‘as good once as he ever was’ which is a huge upgrade from Bryce. But it is still another year of aging and at some point it’s over… people say it is for him, I haven’t seen enough of him this season to say otherwise. Add the fact that they are generally a more seasoned and tested team than we are, players to staff. I am skeptical. But that is why they play the games, we don’t know for sure.
-
If you are talking about how a huge salary would impact the team’s ability to build with quality players, due to the financial burden it imposes, I am in unqualified agreement If you mean because the pressure of justifying it affects his performance, I would not swallow that pill unquestionably. He was in NYC which is the nastiest and more pressure packed media market in the league, and just won’t face the same ‘blood in the water’ viciousness in Indianapolis (or here). I thought I knew that guy was a good gamble to be rehabbed.and wished we had open minded people making the calls here.

Bryce Young - High Ankle Sprain, out minimum 1 week
strato replied to UNCrules2187's topic in Carolina Panthers
Great. An excuse for the whole year now. That is fuging great. -
Well what is deep for Bryce? The game cast things say (not for just him) something like deep pass 18 yards complete. The biggest under throw that comes to mind right away I think was week one I think to T Mac left sideline where he would have had to go back through the defender to get to it. And people one guy was saying he had to make that catch. Which is why I remember it. May not have been 20 yards though.
-
Looking at the compliment of targets on the field in a given formation, and given the QB and M.O. of this offense (hopefully run heavy but also using the RB as a pass receiver), what would you expect a number two to do? Not the best number two for the highest flying offense, but here for this one? Honest question, looking for a baseline.
-
Yeah. But he must have seen something in him. There were surely other guys out there to bring in. These are usually fruitless, I know. Just curious.
