This center plan is getting my attention. We are at Square 1 for the future right now. You hear continuity constantly cited as a major factor in OL success. You got 2 new guards and a new staff and it seems like having the C position in the fold too puts you in the optimal Square 1 and sets you up to succeed. Corbett played some center in LA. I don’t know enough to say he is a bad choice or a good one. Maybe he is the guy it’s all fine. I think we react against it because we are uncertain. I guess this is one I would just have to trust the staff on.

I know this is true and wanted to see how that stands on rosters today but every roster I see gives no draft information so it is hard to really get the picture without putting some time in.

Yeah this is a very fluid situation and dependent of a whole lot of if/then scenarios. Unless you are crazy about one player (you have the blinders on ands the earplugs in) the key is probably how closely bunched the grades are in the second round, and I don’t have that to guide me but in general... if the WRs fall off after #33 then I guess you go WR at #33. I am not sure that is the case. If the grade of a guy there at #33 is essentially the grade at #39 (or #42 or #50 for example, I am not current) then I think you need to be looking at it. So if there is a range of essentially interchangeable players then I would say total green light on moving within that range if you are getting paid because that is more like getting extra gravy. And anything that helps lessen the pick deficit next season should be at least evaluated.

It’d be nice if all people rated as 1st round talent, panned out. If someone falls there is often a good reason. I am wary. And please no more fuging trade ups into the first round. If there is any trading up, don’t use future picks.

Yeah, similar thought. When they figure it out the money will be among the largest piles and at that point it will be smart too. 2 guards and D Brown is almost 250 of that sum.

When they did scout the QBs hard they completely blew it. edit: I didn’t scout the QBs either until we traded up, I had the same attitude. Who knew that obvious stuff even I could identify would be ignored by the pros.

As an aside: In one spot in the video Cam says “I have no one to blame but myself”, about something. If only more people could get to that place instead of that excuse and finger pointing routine. Anyhow I always thought the reason Cam played the way he did was because bottom line that is how he wanted to play. That he saw himself as the most effective or able player on the field. That is kind of anti the narrative people have taken up about him but I see it as very possible he wasn’t totally forced into that style of play. More like they couldn’t stop him from going there, so make the best of it. And, he was the most dominant offensive player on the team, and a top guy in the league. I would love to get the story explained from the source.

I don’t think a straight line speed receiver fits the QB we have at all. I’d probably hold off on that unless I am thinking QB change lies ahead. I still envision a gunshy passer with a lingering confusion over 'NFL vs college open’, and a number of contested balls in the course of an afternoon. Add in the 2.7 plant and throw to a spot and what that is going to look like. I just keep thinking high point, vise grip hands and forearms as desirable primary traits. I also see the off schedule escape the pocket and launch it downfield approach. With Russell Wilson-esque arcs on them and again, the need for strong hands and forearms. It is very hard for me to keep those images out of the mix, so I yield to them.

LT was cerebral enough to send hookers and blow to the other team the night before the game. That isn’t un-slick.

I really want to know what if anything is going to be done with Young’s mechanics and that hopping and that nonchalant approach that’s worked so well in the NFL for him. The stuff that Reich felt needed an offseason to have a chance at rebuilding. It isn’t a small thing. Because I don’t know that he can operate a pro style play action drop back game. If he can, they may be able to run it. Lord knows Icky can do some run blocking and I daresay those guards should hold up at it. If her can’t, remember that pistol play action with the sort of waving the ball in front of a running back as he goes back? Fools no one.

I admit I am a stickler for the proper representation of what was traded, and that has happened because so many people want to just leave the 9th pick out of it and say we only gave up a 1st. So I get like that with it. Accurate is accurate. Anyhow 2 1sts 2 2nds DJ Moore on a great contract I don'’t know what value pick he translates to but it should be a pretty good one. In Charlotte they are still chasing players to remove excuses or ensure the evaluation is giving every benefit of the doubt so they can fairly assess how bad they fuged up lol.. Where Houston is adding people to try and win something, they already know they made the right pick. Cheers.

Fair enough. However, the threat of a allowing a quick one if you screw it up, is there? Or is Not there? Big effect on the defender. An actual threat needs to exist.

Brother we did trade two firsts, go back to the actual transaction. #9 of 2023, #1 of 2024. For one. We traded two for one. Plus. Both 1st round selections. Plus the seconds. Plus DJ Moore. That is supposedly the difference between the Panthers with or without Bryce Young. (and dammit, PHUCK Scott Fitterer). I guess you have to account for at least four years to assess it? It’s not gonna be a good deal. I would say he pretty much needs a great season to earn any leeway, with me... after the lengths they will have gone to, to help him. On top of that initial investment. And no poo, a guy taken where he was taken is supposed to be the one doing the helping. Not needing it. Standards. An acceptable floor at the least. Meet it, don’t meet it. We need to know when that is coming, on the front end.

Ha, man. I thought about the position, practically. If it is for Young then we need the tallest center ever, give him the ball already in throwing position. Add in the contested catch specialist, play with the mentality to throw either side of a specific defender, quickly (and actually learn to do that ), you might have a shot at something fun to watch.

Was trying/failing to quote: A good running game is absolutely script for a young QB. People do get that. People are frustrated with #9’s play since he got here and people should get that too. (edit: yeah, I hope it helps him. it should, I want to see him do the play action. ) No one is coming up in here every day saying Stroud, so that should count for restraint. Because they wouldn’t be wrong.

The silver lining is maybe they will make last year and this year irrelevant and get someone with real potential. My fear is Young will be assisted in every way possible and manage to raise his QBR 10 points and they think he is good enough, and we stay stuck in that mud another two years trying to get to .500 with him. If he is gonna stay the QB he needs to be freaking better than a game manager. Otherwise move on. You did not make those huge moves to settle for that.

I think when you look at the cap numbers those guardes are gonna inflict in three years or so, you don’t want to be spending at C. All for a C if it works out. The right guy could be depth for a season.

If they have in fact hired a coach that can develop QBs then it is wasteful to not maximize that asset. I say plant another row of crops give them some sun and water and see what grows. You'd need to keep 3 QBs at least his first season. So take a guy this year, and roster Dalton as the number two. Maybe next year Dalton would not be required. To me that is worth the roster spot. We ain’t winning anything. It is what I thought should have been happening all along anyway. To me you have to have that franchise guy and you really don’t know where you are going to find him. If you have the skill to train them then you can keep a pipeline of potential guys flowing. You can get a couple of years in with one and get another one on board. Comparatively minimal draft investment needed Just invest the time and effort to get it going and then make it a staple of your master plan. Because you cannot have too many viable young QBs, ever. They are gold.

I don’t feel bad about him. I think people need to accept that you are looking at a guy that has never done the job before, and it is a huge and much different job than he has experience with.

When i visualize it, in my mind I replace the mostly undrafted college defenders with the far superior players in the NFL, and don’t see the performance of the QB translating to beating that. I am unable to see it. All I can see is a just not quite the standard zip being a little wobbly and slow reaching the target... those kind of balls being thrown. Which is where all kinds of bad poo can happen with these cornerbacks these days. Yeah I see where guys get led a little and can get some YAC and I can see someone getting behind someone 20 yards downfield wide open and getting a strike, and it isn’t every single throw that is like I was saying but when the time in the game comes where everyone is stepping up, it is all he has, and I don’t believe in it. edit: and I watch his footwork, throwing mechanics, dropping back, all of it, and think OMG how in the hell is that supposed to work? How do you begin to fix that?
