Why is no one considering double dip at WR?
strato replied to micnificent28's topic in Carolina Panthers
Tomorrow we can commemorate the brilliance that gave our 1st rounder away, and at the same time turned it into the top pick. One fell swoop. Maybe it’s two fell swoops. -
Why is no one considering double dip at WR?
strato replied to micnificent28's topic in Carolina Panthers
For one thing, do you guys think we are gonna be some shootout survivors? Or do you think we still need to limit the other offense? And why don’t we let the new management decide who is in play at WR, that is here already? I expect a WR to be taken. I still hold to the idea that our QB doesn’t recognize or can’t execute NFL open. It is an issue he needs to get straight. But, I get it and have no issue with 33 or 39 being WR. If later on we think we can make a great bet on a guy that was overlooked, fine. But let’s don’t pretend the defense doesn’t need to get buttoned up and if there is a top talent, deal with it. -
Bryce Young ready to get back to work, grow as a leader

Young definitely needs to drill hard for a month at the least. -

They sure did, thanks to Dave, who didn’t need to be sold on that processor. -
According to Legette, Panthers will draft Legette at #33
strato replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
I’d like to point out that they got together with scouts and staff, and the way Morgan talked I got the impression that it was his idea and was a new thing that hadn’t been done that way in the past. Though, it seems common sense dictates that you do that, it is probably wise not to assume. There hasn’t been a lot of common sense involved. EDIT: I actually trust them to do a good job. It’s not an easy job though. -
I feel like they took inexperience into account, he’ll be safe at least for this year.

All this is why I dislike the doctrine of investing so heavily in unknown college players. QBs are mostly value inflated unrealistically in a whole bunch of years. Rarely do you get one that is obviously a great bet. Even Stroud, with all his measurable and with a valid pro arm, was not inspiring me to trade the future. And we’ll see, but he has the ability you look for and showed out right from day one. Still I think it is a crapshoot and would prefer to invest in more predictable position talent. Which is also a gamble but one I prefer. .

Austin Corbett's move to center has seemed "inevitable"
strato replied to Carolina Panthers's topic in Carolina Panthers
Said before, why do you do a major revamp and skimp at C? I think you finish the job. Corbett is unknown to us as a C, and usually you’d trust professionals to assess, and act if necessary. I like Morgan and he isn’t making me rethink that so far, and I think if one they really like is within reach they will make that move. I personally feel like it is a more important to cover that position than what amounts to another WR lottery ticket. And Young, in my mind, sort of puts a ceiling on what you can take advantage of. It isn’t racing on the interstate with him, it is city racing from stoplight to stoplight. -
I can’t recall the source or time but I’d swear that sometime around one of Tepper’s tantrums, he supposedly asked, rhetorically, "what have they/he done to my team” and I think he was referring to Fitterer. I can’t find the quote. IMO I get why they moved CMC, but the DJ Moore thing was inexplicable considering how much help he might have offered.

Albert Breer: Panthers could "hold auction" for #33 pick
strato replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yeah and it will vary by the talent pool each year. If it is a stacked year those percentages would be a little different. For me it would largely depend on who I was passing over if I traded. -

I think 5th in general is still valuable to a degree but the 6th and 7th? A 6th is a throw in to even out a trade, don’t even talk to me about a 7th. And yeah the scouting and decision making can make a 1st round pick into a total flyer. -
Bryce Young ready to get back to work, grow as a leader
strato replied to Carolina Panthers's topic in Carolina Panthers
That, is such a huge job - completely changing from the ground up. You can do it and do reps all perfect, but will you trust it in a game or revert to the easy comfortable way you always did it? That is what has to be proven. It needs to be even more ingrained than the old way to supplant it. And I don’t have faith they can do it, but maybe he can drill some reliability in. -

It is very difficult to avoid. Shortcomings.... -

If you hold the opinion that he was never worthy of that level of investment, which I do... It would be more like they made a terrible error in judgement and are doing their best to hide it. What career was PJ Washington guaranteed? How much better is Bryce? He doesn’t measure up to what people expect out of him and I fault the people having the inflated expectations far more than I fault Bryce for being who he is. He’ll probably be a fine College Gameday addition. He is not what the Teppers and Fitterer thought he was. Don't need lies on top of the bullshit we are told. At least I don’t. Show me don’t tell me. I don’t expect the offseason to give individual progress reports but just something telling me you are conscious of the need to improve and show me your work ethic. That would be welcomed. -

Hmm. Under C, standard QB 5 step drop. I think 5. That is something I was curious about. -

Oh yeah, the fluff. I’ll take your word for it. I would always be glad to hear this about our top pick. So what year did he go (back) get his degree? Do you remember? -

I might disagree with that, anecdotally at least. Or question it. We can name a lot of great players taken in the 3rd round. And in a deep draft as this supposedly is? With 3 chances? -

I thought he went back to college? edit: yes it Has been a long time, memory may not be reliable. -

That is my fear, that we are saddled with a very average game manager for the next three years. Already sacrificed one miserable ass season, plus the 1st pick in the draft for that guy. And people are wanting everyone to support what so far has been very predictable fail. I do believe Canales can devise a way to get 16-21 ppg from the offense so if Young doesn’t fumble or throw a bunch of bad balls and the defense jells we may win 6. The problem is, with that type of attack where do you go from there? His ceiling is so limited by his physical ability. -

The puns write themselves with him. It is actually difficult to avoid them. -

Bryce Young, Kumbaya. Tell that poo to Bears fans you will have a better chance of success. I guarantee they love him. For Panthers fans, he has been about as useful as a boat anchor. A blocking sled probably contributes as much to the team’s success as things stand. 26-0, 9-0 in his 15th and 16th games. Trending up, he was not. He is Ron before the Riverboat. -

Question from a person that is not great with stats: If the scouts suck, then isn’t it better to view a pick as an educated guess? And if that were true wouldn’t we have a better chance with more guesses? -
🚨Tony Pauline: Panthers interested in CB Mike Sainristril @33

Good one. That guy was entertaining and he won. Until people started taking them seriously then he was a little overmatched. I loved him though.
