Panthers Select Xavier Legette WR - Pick 32, Round 1
strato replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
The Florida dude is going to a much better environment, no matter what he does I don’t think you can extrapolate that performance to here, with this QB. So who knows. Here, it will be a good test for the young OC, getting him involved in a helpful way. -

Came across this -
About what? the QB or the offense? For the QB, last year it was the first padded practices where negative reviews, or reports of struggles, happened. He is okay playing catch in shorts.

Panthers Select Jonathan Brooks RB - 46th Pick, Round 2

Didn’t we used to run zone with Fox and Stephen Davis or was it later? Annyway, I think Canales is probably well versed in more than one offensive school, but has decided to break it down and get the training wheels out. I don’t think it will look like Dan Henning (who I liked) when we do throw. I’m looking forward to seeing the twists he comes up with. -
In all probability, whoever is in the Number 1 for Manning won’t be selling the pick. And if Young is still here it will be because we got better than worst in the league. So it probably wouldn’t be us.

I do see a really methodical way the team could compete on offense. But I don’t see the field getting stretched far enough, often enough to win enough games and it all has to go just right. There isn’t much margin. Guarantee Red Zone will be better if we ever get down there. I mean if there is one team used to operating in tight quarters....=== and I think we have everything for down close except a short yardage ram.

Panthers Select Trevin Wallace LB - Pick 72, Round 3

I don’t think this guy is near as unfinished. edit: a team Captain at Kentucky as a Junior. That’s getting a quality person. Which if he can’t play won’t matter but let’s see. I think he looks pretty good. -

And don’t you dare text in and tell them any Bryce criticism. EDIT: as far as LBs ands Wilson, man I would love to have him but those injuries are part of the deal. They are scary. -
Panthers Select Jonathan Brooks RB - 46th Pick, Round 2

It looks like 4.5mil dead cap for the 3rd and 4th year (total), seems like this will the last year we are affected. -
What is typical about any aspect of this? Other than it looks like a typical Tepper QB fail? Point being, a non typical result could happen, and who would be surprised? Not me. The surprise would be a right decision. Which, I am ready for. Whatever it is. With all due respect to shrimp QBs with NFL ambition, they can try. I hope my team never again wants to be the guinea pig for that lobby. Unless it is day two or three. Let someone else deal with it.

Here it is afaic: RBs all come in, coaches put them in the hopper and figure out who they like best. Despite Sanders’ money.... I mean I would lean towards using him, but I guess there is the chance someone beats him out. In the case of someone else being clearly better, I would take whatever hit came with releasing him (and I think he deserves that to happen in time to allow him to find another job). Right now he can get there and compete, like the rest of the team should be doing. -
So when do we see these guys in town and doing something? This week?

That is a great question. I could be the latter with knowing they have plan B at the ready. The impatient boss selects the instant payoff over the long term (we have seen how that works). A wise boss is not impatient. If they are smart they aren’t going to build something they can’t use with the next guy, until they know they don’t need a next guy. edit: do people think that they see Young as cemented in place as that guy? -
Panthers Select Chau Smith-Wade DB - Round 5, Pick 157
strato replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yeah I don’t think I’d like this guy outside, he doesn’t fit that in the NFL. I think he needs to stick to nickel and ST to help the defense, he’d probably contribute. I think he’d be a liability outside. I like him okay though, looking forward to seeing him. Actually that is probably how I feel about all the picks, I like them okay and am looking forward to seeing them. I feel like they were taken for a good reason; though I may not see it yet. One shouldn’t expect to go straight down the line hit every one, butI think we’ll hit on a couple of guys in this group. 4 would be great. -
CBS Sports’ way too early 2025 mock has Carolina ….taking a QB

This funny in a gallows humor sort of way. The talk around the team. Last year this time it’s playoffs. One year of Bryce Young and went from that to worst record in the league a second year running,. -
SC is SEC, they are the highest competition in college ball. Maybe think asbout like SC is generally a basement type, ands they play against the best. So a WR from SC that is succeeding is probably doing it against a bit tougher competition than the guys from the best teams.

Panthers Select Ja'Tavion Sanders TE - Pick 101, Round 4

I guiess that’s a Texas thing. Brooks had some a couple of one handers in a clip I saw. -

Sanders. That guy is spilt milk already. Not much you can undo. They do have the OL upgraded closer to what he had before and even an idiot can run through a wide open hole. He tries to avoid that but a threat of being unjobbed might redirect him a little. -
I remember Dickerson as running fairly upright. might explain going down easier. Great runner though.

His high school QB film looks like Cam Jr. -
Well wait. They are building a team as we speak to cater to a under equipped player’s deficiencies. Put a little differently they are overbuilding it to compensate for the design flaws of a weak component. No one would design an NFL QB with Bryce Young as their template. No. One. It is always around this point that I get really pissed off or frustrated and lose the thought or point I am going for, because I look at it and realize that what I just wrote, is 100000% true. So I lost the point again. Sorry 45. I get so pissed off at the decision makers that put this on us. It isn’t about whether Young is a good kid. Doesn’t matter. Besides that he has no underdog cred, at all, and that is the only reason I’d have to ignore my good sense.

I don’t know about his leash. Depends on how he plays. I know these guys are young but I think they need to be trending up the way people like to see NFL teams trend.. like end the year with a winning streak,. you spoil a contender’s playoff chances, other teams don’t want to play you. That type of stuff. We have seen it before. Personally though, I would already have competition in the building. Today. Even if it is token. We would see who could do what with what, on the field. If he is what people want him to be, he would win the job.
