The Jets Joint Practice Thread: HOT Take Edition
strato replied to Ricky Spanish's topic in Carolina Panthers
Sounds like it went about as well as it could have. Would have been fun to see. I don’t get much from the twitter videos. I didn’t see any of last year’s. I had a different idea of what it would be compared to what I saw. I thought they’d like, each run their drills and stuff to get loose, maybe go over what they wanted to focus on, and play. With regular rules except don’t hit the QB. I guess that’s not what it was. This is an important part of building your team though. Gauging yourself against another team. It was way better than if it sucked, but they still aren’t really playing football so it is enjoy but take it with a grain of salt. Story is just starting -
Panthers make roster moves at guard

too bad for him. That newborn in season worked out for Bozeman too. -
Would the Carolina Panthers move on from QB Bryce Young?

If you are saying what I think maybe you are saying... The last 5 years has been a yearly I want everything right now fest. Mostly the QB thing driving it. One year after the next, same thing. Yeah -

I went 6 without looking at who and when and where but I‘d rather be one too high than one too low. -
Well now I am the stan. Y’all leave Sam alone! Imma go to reddit and tell everybody how mean y'all are. My thing is, was, some people are slow learners, late bloomers. Takes them a while to put it together. I know about that personally. Some things take me a little longer to grasp, but once it clicks I’ve got. I’m not gonna say anything important to humanity clicked for me, but that’s how it works sometimes. Even today:Wanna ask me if I would Darnold, DJ, and Forman and all those picks, or Bryce Chuba and Theilan? You don’t have to. I am just going to have to see him fail in a good stable situation before I write him off because if he just puts the reads together he will win more than he fugs up. Maybe the same system same OC decent team, 2nd year... I think he still has a chance. As I say, I’m a sucker for the tools. Every tool is NFL quality. 7th year in the league, still only 27. I can’t look away lol. edit: after getting back in the 2022 mode, I thought he was getting close. Close to learning from his mistakes. That seems like a LONG time ago.

Same for Turnstill Stuessie . Calling him Turnstile is so unfair and negative. If I spelled that right, buy me a coffee lol.

Underdog. I can’t get there with Bryce. And that is nothing he has done (well, now that I say that, I remember: he did game the combine to maintain his elite draft position). So maybe I take that back... he is responsible for being where he is. Maybe if he gets benched, cut, his dog dies, he invests all his money with Terence Howard’s tech venture, loses it. Resorts to the UFL or CFL, never quits, and makes his way back to the NFL as a journeyman? Then of course the starter is hurt and Bryce comes in... yeah. Second chances, when you are finally ready for it. I am all the way in on that. I’d be cheering him hard. A typical by the numbers cliche story, still fun. Right now, he is the overdog, apparently too valuable to be exposed to competition. Or too good to beat out I guess? Taking marks off the team for that. Part two, about losing to us being embarrassing? All over that one, today. edit: I am waiting fore someone to hit me because they think that is the ONLY way I would cheer for him. It is the underdog aspect. Rooting for him because he is somehow an underdog. If he starts tearing it up I will be about it. We could have a 3 foot QB and if he did the job I would be all for it. I would have to see that to believe it though.

Okay, the sack total thing that’s been mentioned, can someone weigh in... BY 62 sacks in 2023. He accounted for a few himself (the two finger one, that is on him lol) But the slower pace got him caught several times too. Poor pocket awareness. How many should he own? Because that means he has a goal of cutting down those mistakes. Say it was 10, just for fun. He needs to cut it to 5. That leaves the OL with 52 on them to work on. How many total whiffs were there just inside? A lot. We know Icky, don’t know his numbers. But he was a victim of Bryce dropping too far, and into where Icky was taking the rushers. So all of those were not his fault. But man he was freakimng horrible otherwise, even his run blocking was a shadow of the rookie year. Anyhow, there are 52. What’s the number that qualifies Bryce as being adequately protected relative to the rest of the QBs? It would sure be nice to provide a no excuses environment so we can rightly evaluate him. All I could find was team stats. Need to take 3 off for Dalton’s game. Young was 62 in 16 games, just under 4 per. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/years/2023/#all_passing I figure it is simple enough to find a QB that thrived, with a high number of sacks, and take that as a goal. Lot of top ten Qbs are on the least sacked teams but there are some with a number closer to the middle of the pack. Houston was 21st as a team, 47 sacks. Baltimore was 17th and had 41. Fair enough? What do we think? What is the baseline for sufficient improvement? I am saying at least one sack a game less puts things around 50. Houston had 47. So that’s getting close. If they can shave a few more off, I think we are clear for fair evaluation. And already a better team by a degree at least. There is some play, I think I fudged Dalton’s sacks, and I am horrible with numbers anyway. Someone might refine this into something readable. -

Interesting thought. I think a lot of other things will factor as well. How the coach looks. How Morgan’s additions look. Was Young a contributing factor to someone being less, or more? So much stuff. You sort of have to unravel those threads to understand it. Seems to me. But um, then you have Tepper. But he is on restriction lol so we will have to see if he adheres to his New Yesr’s resolution. New League Year’s Resolution to be more precise. I understand betting on him to break it. -

Do I need to tell that it was a self deprecating joke? dude. My ignorant ass. Joke. You have never heard anybody say that? Sigh... I was not upset with you. Like, at all. There is no need to insult someone for asking you a question. Insult some other snowflake. There is no shortage. The other poo about the trophies wasn’t aimed at you, it was aimed at whoever is slacking on the team. That I was asking about. Because I only could think of one. Why I asked. I also asked because to me, if a person makes a statement about weak players on the offense, they normally name them. Thanks for the info. -
Don't despair. You can still say ‘bad’ things. Bashing the drafted players, still legal. The people that drafted them, the ownership, the analytics guy, the trainer that has everybody tweaking hamstrings... say all the bad poo you want. You will find many of the complainers standing in solidarity with you I’ll bet. We just have a sacred calf.

Please, for my ignorant ass, tell who the deficiencies are, so I can order their participation trophies for the team banquet. Gonna say Corbett maybe? Who gets one? -

Camp Observations: Turnovers define the day

I am a bit surprised to see the emphasis on scrambling. It doesn’t seem like a great plan to me after what that looked like last year. Or looked like far too often. OTOH the best plays I’ve seen from him were mostly when he had space around him (and probably could see), lord lord lord what are we doing?. I’ve been saying, they need to protect his 6 with a shadow if they are gonna do that kind of stuff because people regularly chased him down when he bailed out to the right. I say right because that's the way my mind remembers a couple of the better outcomes, it isn’t quantified to numbers. -
I’m a sucker for tools in a QB. And protoypical size. He might get a real chance, I don’t think he was in any good situations. 2022 was a clusterfug with Mayfield coming in. Not Mayfield is a guy I didn’t believe in. But he showed some good I didn’t see. Not THAT much good, but I respect him more than I did for sure.
-
I’m the dumbass that sees something in Darnold. I stayed far away inn 2020 and 2021, thought I could give it up (so I didn’t see things like y’all did) Did not like Tepper’s style at all, and there were other reasons too, but Tepper cinched it. But I grew up with it. Slowly sucked back in. Man, it has gotten SO much worse.

Lol you know, if you get a small enough square peg, it could get way up in there. -

Young completes a 20 Yard deep ball and is immediately extended through David Tepper’s expected lifespan, which, if he does not fix this poo (and that damned sure did not) is Sept 11, 2028. His 70th birthday. We watching you Dave. -
I judge you to be a reasonable person. What did they promise you? I’ll double it. JK

You are gonna get unbiased criticism of the other team though. If someone impresses, they will say. You know, “damn, I told everybody we should draft this guy”. I think it is a great idea. I mean I read that site where Person described the Jets practice last year. When I heard people talking here, I thought it must have been a different practice.

See here it goes. Imma hold it in about a lot of that stuff you are saying... and just go: was that post weeks old? It affected me and I was not inclined to overlook it but also not inclined to go full high gear and I am not gonna do it now but man I think I could. I just looked. The thread turned two weeks old today, so conratulations on that photo finish on the plural correctness. Which I honestly did not realize it was that old. But, to balance that,.that may have been because posts were made in it this past Friday, and another couple of days later, and then I made a couple in there, unrelated to your post. About the Jets scrimmage. Just a couple of days ago. But I don’t think that I need to apologize for pointing out the hypocrisy there. And it was not just negative against a player it was directed at other posters, for the crime of whatever you think it is. People still read stuff and search stuff and it comes up and if you do not want something quoted in a rebuttal maybe consider that when you put it on the page for everybody to see. If people kept it to football I would keep it to football too. I thought I was already doing that, until I see personal stuff. Then, I see there are going to be times like this. I don’t think I need to ‘do’ anything, we can just disagree. All legal and fair. You can come back at me and escalate. Or not. edit: and I have a busy couple of days, don’t think I am hiding.

Number one: That seems logical. First time I felt like it made sense. Number two: I always thought Brown was suspect, I mean, he was a running back what the hell makes him the guy to unlock that outlier? I could never resolve him being a running back that had never been an NFL coordinator before. And now it just hit me. Tepper was probably trying to pimp another minority HC prospect so he could get a draft pick. Just like Evero. Who I am gonna miss. But he is figuring hey I have all these QB experts I don’t need another one at OC. I can stash this guy at OC and parlay it into looking really smart, on the back of my guaranteed success number one QB. And get a pick! (rubs hands on brass balls while emitting Gollum type utterings).

So hold them out of preseason to shelter them... great. That is some Black Cat poo. This is we can’t have nice things. We tear them up. And, another built in excuse.
-
It can’t have the Jets scrimmage in it. Only way I could take the hyped optimism is if the Jets scrimmage went well. And not Joe Person well. Actually well.
