  1. But, but... SEC baby! It's just like the NFL! Everyone said so last year. I don't know everybody else's roster well enough but I think just having what looks like a pretty good OL in the works gets us off the bottom.
  2. Yeah I have always absolutely hated the idea of copying the Boston Red Sox and using a song written by a NYC pop songwriter about Caroline Kennedy to celebrate the victory of a football team from the south representing the Carolinas. I mean, do something ORIGINAL how about it? Doc Watson was from NC. John Coltrane was from NC. You have a lot to work with. Fact, maybe a fun fact, maybe not. Brooklyn if you were old enough to have heard Charlie Daniels' 'The South's Gonna Do it Again' Carolina is in fact referred to as Caroline lol. I remembered it when I read your post. And it was referencing SC, but same difference wth the Carolina thing It was a song about all the 'Southern Rock' bands from the early '70s. Got a cool guitar riff in it. Looked it up. The second line of the 1st verse" And the Tucker boys are cookin' down in Caroline
  3. I guess you would after last year. Some people would have the next 9 games pencilled as a win. If they have a 4-4 stretch I suspect it would be later when the rookies get more adapted, the offense gets on the same page especially the OL.
  4. Ahh, 2009. The year they redid Jake's deal. Tagged Peppers, oh boy.... JR put Hurney in a corner with Peppers and the tag and cap stuff. I remember that situation having a wide range of effects. Restructures under the gun lead to mistakes, Jake's being the big one. The draft got out of whack with the desperation to replace Peppers... there you go trading a future one for.... Everette Brown! that's what I took away from it back then. (I checked the year and it was 2009, while looking I saw that Everette Brown is asst LB coach on the Panthers ha ha. I did not know that.)
  5. No telling about this week. I would like to think they avoid the interceptions and strip sacks but it is real easy to have those images in mind. Just want to see 1 of 11. Ball out in under 2.7 seconds. Win LOS on run downs both sides. Not falling apart with false starts and holding infractions. Like to see the OL pick up one stunt. Picked 6 wins when it was very optimistic, I'll stick.
  6. Travelle was a 3rd rounder wasn’t he a Hurney pick? I remember being pretty pissed about Bruce Nelson.
  7. We hope. And that is a lot of noise to deal with on the snap count, and yeah Corbett too. And Lewis, what's his deal? Is he up to speed and synched with his teammates? Sounded like he missed a lot. I can foresee some real wreckage happening, it isn't too hard to imagine.
  8. It looks to me like it was All about the QB and it went sideways right at the start of putting i together. And Reich lost that one. I really believe it was doomed with Brown a first time OC from a different tree. It didn't make sense then and surely didn't work. You want want a passing game kind of guy with a rookie QB top pick, right? I know the guy in the job now is probably right there with Caldwell's program to start with, if there is one. Trying to figure all that out is over my head. Past that, improvements over last year, in theory or approach, are clear, in the staff and front office. We have alignment with the HC and the OC, which seems to be extended to the GM as well. So anyone should be at least a little hopeful long term.
  9. They told Johnson straight up to set the edge, the night they took him. That was his job last year. I haven't focused on him at all this year, him taking a step could help. I looked at SR site and they are mostly polling between 7-10 wins I think, and I don't know a ton about them but their pass rush should be a good test.
  10. What reason would there be that he was not included in the purge? Ahem, hmm, all that. I only have two guesses, and one is not that he showed total opposition to stuff the coaches were doing and it was known to everyone. It isn't flattering. Like you say, we can only watch.
  11. Yeah and Caldwell dealt with Manning and stuff. That is not our model. And poo was horrible last year but he stays? Tepper advisor maybe…
  12. Ahh, Gettleman. Gettleman with Tepper could have had a very entertaining dynamic.
  13. Yeah we have waited a long time. I'm still waiting until week 3 before I look too closely at things. Early season fog over the league in general, no film of the offense really, we might be able to do a little better early. (which is just about the same thing I said last year, and what a disaster it turned out to be. Who even needed film?).
  14. First reaction was suspicion of that being the case. Whatever, we are getting ready to see what is what soon enough.
  15. Given the unpredictability of week 1, why not? Win or lose, I don't plan on using it as a barometer for the season.
  16. You gotta give him his due. Which as I see it doesn't get him up as high as these other great players we've had but he deserves the respect of fans because he has been a good Panther for many years.
  17. That is how they are attacking the situation, looks like to me. And we get to rationalize that it will be all built for the next guy if he fails so how can it be wrong? They flat out pilfered the defense to prop up the offense. Burns, the pick and the saved money, offense. Bryce Young just needs to really be good because if he only looks 'decent' or third tier with all of that coaching and talent around him, I'm not gonna feel real enthusiastic about it. Which obviously s getting ahead of things at this point so we'll see.
  18. Not disagreeing. I don't scout them until they're picked or close to being picked I guess. I liked Wallace fine and seem to remember besides the game video (that was good) that he was a team Captain I think. That kind of guy is what you are looking for. Most of them look good against college and it's why they are on the radar, so my scouting skills don't do it for the late round guys. The TE was kind of a no brainer there, definitely worth a shot. I haven't really scrutinized him yet but hear some good, and some maybe not quite as good outlooks. I keep coming back to the thought that every top 2 pick is all about Bryce Young and I can only understand Brooks in that context. The outlet, the LB matchups in near space... that is what I am imagining was a big part of that selection. XL, I know people say what they say but I think the same thing, he was chosen for a specific role or maybe I should say his fit to that role within the structure of what they do in 2024 (further, acquired with the optimistic view that they won't have to adapt him to another QB*). edit: * could be wrong on just that one or a lot of it.
  19. Bread and Circus. Tepper and Tepper.
  20. You can make the case. It's unlikely they all shine, but even a couple of misses isn't bad.
  21. This has to be equally as weird as talking about Canales' voice. If you are talking week one, or say, week 11 or so. Deeper into the season to allow the new to break in... I think or at least hope to see a different picture than what we see with these new guys going into week one. Edit: There is new everywhere. I always overlooked week one. Well, until last year which was so far from good it was obviously hopeless. But now this is early with the conversion from preseason game 4 to Week 1. So I am looking to see what's going on week three. That's two games of film for DCs etc...
  22. Not sure of the context exactly re the 17-21 so am not hammering it, if that is an average or a floor, not sure. That might seem like a lot to a team carrying a 2 game shutout streak into the season. I guess it is a lot. I don't think it's enough. I'd like for it to be. edit: I know it's a new team, but it's fact for the books.
