    Ender's shadow I enjoyed, also really liked Xenocide. They're all pretty different though.

    That's interesting, I always liked Hyperion and Fall better than the Endymion books. They're all great though. And I agree about the concepts, that's the thing with sci-fi for me, if it's not challenging you philosophically, it's really not doing its job.

    i don't think they are particularly poorly written (nor particularly well written) or anything, i just stopped caring.

    I agree with this. The story simply isn't good enough imo to deserve 14 (or whatever) 1000 page books.

    can't recommend enough the Hyperion series by dan simmons. not only some the best sci-fi i've ever read but some of the best books I've ever read. F*cking amazing. Also, anything by frank herbert (obligatory,) The Mote in God's Eye by Larry Niven and The Moon is a Harsh Mistress by Heinlen. The other Ender's Game books are also great.
