The Panthers have an effort problem
Gapanthersfan replied to raleigh-panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
Teams take on the personality of the head coach. Nuf said. I like Canales and the offense I feel is trending up, but I miss the hell out of what Wills brought. -

I think this team does in fact obtain talented players but coaching and conditioning are abysmal. Closed training camp with VERY few, organization approved, messages… and then we get this? Kind of makes you question things. The team looks lost, soft and unfocused. More of the same except… Wilks short tenure. How the team looked completely changed overnight. Steve saved Darnold’s career for God’s sake. I’m not saying Wilks was the answer long term as that has already been argued 100 times… but it’s hard to not put the ‘if onlys’ together. Im saying coaching matters. Attitude matters. Evero 1000% is not it. Offense will right the ship fairly quickly in to the season, but the defense will severely underperform. Defensive depth is a really big problem.

Yup

I don’t argue his skill set and think he will be gold for us, but unless he goes gangbusters with > 1000 yards and 8+ TDs, he won’t get the national attention nor the required votes. Where he ends up on the depth chart is still up for debate and entirely our collective opinions at this stage. Tet is WR1. That much is known until proven otherwise. Where it goes from there is purely opinion until the live bullets start flying.

I’m pulling for Renfro like crazy but for him to be comeback player as a WR3 (at least the way it looks now) … but he’ll have to get the votes and this is the big challenge. He could be the obvious pick but would get snubbed for a bigger name.

In Mario Kart terms, Coker has the red shell in his possession. I’ve been saying and saying it, Dan and Canales are committed to winning, whomever gives the team the best chance to do so. Coker will be WR2 by game 5 if not sooner. I 100% believe the Eagles game was THE event where Dan decided that XL could not be depended on to make ‘that catch’ unless something drastic changed in his game. 3!! Drops on the final drive. 3. I don’t hate the guy. I do like him, but the floor on a guy who can’t come down with the ball reliably is not worth it. I would not be surprised if he becomes trade bait at some point.

Evero?!?! Should he be on the Hot Seat

I was about to say this same thing. His seat should be hotter than the surface of the sun. -
Panthers playbook Cox and Rhea review of the game
Gapanthersfan replied to raleigh-panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
The sour towards BY that some continue to show is so far beyond being guarded at this point. It’s tiring. It’s consuming, and it’s pretty obvious that there will be nothing that he can objectively do to win them over. It’s just miserable. Is he that dude? I don’t know, maybe or maybe not. but whatever. -
Even Tyson, Manning, Favre, and MJ became shells of their former days after Father Time took his chunk of flesh. Only a minuscule go out like the Goat. What were once ‘pretty good’ players fall off a cliff when it hits.

I’ve said it all offseason and will continue to say it, Coker sees himself behind Tet on the depth chart. Hell, he probably believes enough in himself that he sees himself as WR1. Is there any doubt that he gets more and more play time as the season goes on? Would anyone be surprised if next game he outshines XL again? I really want to see him throw more passes. I bet he could beat Andy out for backup qb. Again, I like XL the guy and I liked the fire, but what he did last night can be the difference in close games. He’s still trying to exercise demons from a few unforgivable drops he had last season, and last night did him no favors. Coker smells blood in the water and is now going to push even harder to show that he is that dude.

Cherelus down. We need to be talking about LBs even more
Gapanthersfan replied to TD alt's topic in Carolina Panthers
From what I think I see, Dan has shown patience in finding the RIGHT guy at the RIGHT price. Even beyond his playing days here, he’s been in football long enough to see what happens to a team when you overpay for an overhyped ‘talent’. He understands locker room chemistry and politics. A team is a fraternity. They all have their own vibe. Just because a guy may have measurables doesn’t mean he is a fit (Johnson). This previous draft class and recent free agents appear to be cut from similar cloth. If I may be so bold, Dan seems to have an eye for the long game. -
Salute to Panthers for their new 12 yr old QB!!

Possible the Browns are looking to trade Shadeur?
Gapanthersfan replied to Proudiddy's topic in Carolina Panthers
Despite the hype tsunami, nobody wanted him 4 times over. I will say it was fun watching the draft coverage teams look like total clowns, and It took the lowly Browns to finally say ‘sure, why not.’ Now the rumor is them wanting to offload him? I’ll pass (bad pun). Juice not worth the squeeze from a media spectacle vs potential upside lens. -
Well that's different...Staley as guest speaker.

It’s always refreshing to hear from, and speak to, people with little to no ego. -
I wouldn’t see the team sticking with Moore, but he does have a definite chemistry with Bryce and he seems to have a knack for getting open enough for 6 when the team is in the RZ. Last season he was a very serviceable #3/4.

It’s really hard to get a young kid interested in a loser other than it being ‘dad’s team.’ Kids like fun. What’s fun about 3 and outs and historically bad defense? It’s even harder in a state/region where college sports still dominate the popularity contest. Those of us who lived the magic of 03 and 15, we know what it’s like to pull for a winner. To go in to a game as the 7 point favorite…. but it’s been a decade now. We all hate the thought…. But this team needs, gasp, a bandwagon. It really does. Win games and market players that embody the ‘brand’. Delhomme, Smith, Dan, Cam, Luke, Davis, Greg, Mills, etc. Dawgs with swag. Many ‘fans’ only tune in (at least initially) to cheer on their guy. They can’t name 3 other players on the team. Recipe for Big Mamma’s Original bandwagon chili: 1. Team gets good. Gets fun. 2. Newbies watch, have no idea what the hell is going on, but they hear the same names called on every big play. 3. They get to liking a certain dude and now have ‘their guy.’ 4. They buy the jersey. 5. They now watch primarily to see their guy ball out, but winning is cool too. 6. Hopefully they learn more names and how football is played. Since the exodus of Cam, who are now those guys? Blue chippers. It just hasn’t been fun. No headliner. No winning…. your ‘player only’ fans? Hasta la vista, baby. Gone. We saw it on the huddle with the Cam only fans. They cheat on you. They’ll start watching grandpa’s team… the one here before the Panthers… that one in Washington. Those dudes seem to be doing pretty well these days. This team NEEDS Young to be Mighty Mouse. It’s too late to go shopping for another franchise QB. Too many of the current offensive players will be way too expensive in 2-3 years unless Dan can walk on draft water. The window is now. Inevitably, all teams decline as franchise QBs leave and coaching staffs turn over. The hope is to have retained a decent percentage of the bandwagon who eventually learned the game and migrated from ‘player fan’ to ‘team fan.’ They hang on, stay thirsty for the next go round, and have hardened in spirit enough to endure the down years. Our numbers are dwindling.

The Jags will Jags, but I hope they just pencil him in at one position for his sake. A big play WR is more valuable than a solid CB in the NFL unless he’s Sherman/Revis level.
-
Too old. washed up. Slow and play has declined. Park him on the bench. Right? Best hands ever (yes, even than McCaffery) on this team.
-
I didn’t hate the pick. I like the dude and think he’s a cool cat, but this validates everyone who has said that he lacks a dawg mentality. It also helps to explain why he would snag some really difficult catches and drop others that look pretty routine. I sincerely hope he has truly committed to becoming a professional because I know Coker enjoyed the read.
-
I’m loving this. Yes, it’s PRACTICE, So perspective needed, but this is a rook calling out a veteran LT in a contract year. The more disrespected Ickey feels, the better it is for the team. Does anyone think this dude will be ok with losing?
-
Da fug? Edgar Salmingo said Prince beat Ickey earlier in the day with a move. If he is indeed sitting out waiting in a contract… bro. Really?

For those thinking Renfrow isn't making the team...Ha!
Gapanthersfan replied to TD alt's topic in Carolina Panthers
You suck, you sit. You ball out, you see the field. Drop passes, get stupid penalties or run sloppy/wrong routes? You sit. I hold no ill will towards any of the players, but we deserve the best Panthers team possible. If Horn turns in to SS89 v 2.0 and is obviously the best WR on the team, then he is WR#1, draft position be damned. I’m not saying it’ll happen, it likely won’t, but the guys who give the team the best chance to win have to see the field.
