  1. My concern is that Bryce is going to require a lot of premium resources to make his style of play work. He needs first and second round talent.

His game is: play breaks down, his beast o line buys him half an hour of scramble time and his first round WR makes magic happen.

Unless Morgan and co are draft and FA wizards, the defense will be filled with a stud here and there, but mostly JAGs. It’s damn near impossible to win a championship with a crap defense.

in this instance, Bryce wins but panthers lose. We win 7 to 11 games a year, just because we’re so loaded on O. Ground game goes for 180 yards and 3 TDs a game behind a nasty line. Defense gives up 21 on the regular.

  2. Tepper cuts bait early, but I hope he realizes that his instincts up until this season have been completely wrong. Promoting Morgan is a big deal  here’s why.

I’m glad culture was brought up. I do think Morgan will get things rolling in the right direction. He’s suited up in that locker room. He knows Panthers, bust you in your mouth, football. Players will respect him. I guarantee he along with Brown are the undisputed leaders in the locker room already. Their philosophies are almost identical. This is good. I bet they’ve already talked about this.

The fact that Tepper finally promoted someone from the old guard, may be a sign of showing some humility. Morgan was a DAWG. He knows what it takes to win, and he knows what winners look like.

At the end of the day we have to concede one major point no matter how much we agree Reich and the outgoing staff were clearly not the answer. Having a starting QB who was clearly phsyically limited as a passer and not being allowed to bench him would have doomed many coaches current and former. That is why Canales has such an uphill battle ahead of him. It's that time of year where memories get hazy and hopium is abundant but the truth still has to be acknowledged.

I really think this is where the crux of everything lies. Frank and co had no clue what to draw up once Young was the pick. He’s been around long enough to know a coach killer when he sees one. He knew it was a ship destined to sink. He saw how the skill set of the line players didn’t match the scheme. Same thing with receivers. He saw how 0.0% of the Bryce hype was actually true.

He couldn’t wait to get fired, and used the weekly decapitation attempts on Bryce as leverage for Tepper to finally do so. Hell, he probably bought Ickey a G wagon as a show of appreciation.

Well we didn’t have a top coaching staff, we’ve had the worst coaching in the league for the past 4 years.

Do you expect it to stop with our current staff? Tepper passed on Belicheck because he knew Bill wouldn’t stand for that crap. I’m on record before we even went on the coaching search that Tepper would never hire someone he couldn’t influence. I sincerely hope for the good of our franchise it stops.

Would Reid? Tomlin? Carrol?  Harbaugh? Parcells, etc ever be ok with the owner critiquing plays?

We’re trying to attract and keep good coaches and players. I hope he sees this and stops with the Mickey Mouse ish.

  5. I like TMJs game and potential. For him to succeed, he has to have a QB that throws an NFL ball. He needs to have it fired at him. A 22 yard dart to the back of the end zone on a post route. Same with Mingo to a certain extent. He’s also not a  ‘just give me the m’fin ball.’ He needs a stud QB to elevate his game.

  6. The greatest season, with the best coaching this franchise has ever seen. That team had the heart of lion. Went in the Lou. Double OT. In to Philly and then beat their brains in. That team came back after halftime, against the best QB to ever play the game in his prime and almost won the damn thing… Brady starting on his 20 instead of the 40 wins 8 times out of 10 anyway.

If John Fox doesn’t pull Rodney Pete at half in Jacksonville, that season never happens. Pretty crazy to think about.

If it would have been the Giants instead of the Panthers, the made for TV movie would still be playing.

I actually think he’ll probably have a pretty good season to prove the haters wrong or whatever motivation he’ll have. But, he wouldn’t have had the same season here if he had stayed. It would have been another mail it in season on the franchise tag playing not to get injured. Glad to have that bum ass attitude out of our locker room.

I see him coming out guns blazing like he did in ATL for us, then regress back to the mean by the end of the season. If he makes plays that wins games for them, it won’t bug me in the least. I’m happy he’s gone.

  8. Burns quitting on his team over money showed his true colors. He got exactly what he deserved. The NY sports media. One trick pony better find paydirt in the NFC East. I’d have let him go for a pack of grape big league chew so I’m really pretty pleased with what we got.

As much as I disagree with forking over big $ for free agents in the beginning stages of FA, nothing they’ve done has been out of line. I’ll be patient and hopefully less synical.

  9. Our best teams were built off of success in the draft and wisely getting free agents that just fit, and didn’t bust the bank.

2003. BPA. Smith. Morgan. Peppers, Ricky Manning. Minter, moose… Free agents Jake, Rucker, proehl, and Davis.

2015: Norwell, Ted Ginn.. among the incredible drafted talent we had.

I really hope this is different and I do believe in our vision, so I hope it works out.

The mediocre defense was a facade. It wasn't real. Teams scored when they wanted to, but I get the sentiment.

A mediocre offense would be more fun to watch than the blasphemy the Panthers have been marching out there the past 5 years. I just want fun football. Win, lose or draw. Just be competitive and entertaining. That's what all of this is, right?

1000%. Please just at least make it watchable and less demoralizing.

if we do nothing else this year, please just be able to score more than 10 points and keep the other team under 100 rushing yards a game. There is something completely demoralizing when every run goes for at least 7 and you can’t do a thing to stop it.

It’s early still, but I really want to see team building, because we end up losing the same way every single season. Several key guys we bet the farm on get hurt, we have 0 depth, more injuries pile up from players playing out of position or trying to overcompensate. 0 depth. 0 ‘Target’ shopping acquisitions. No second and 3rd round picks to positions we don’t really need help with, but they were bpa with stud potential. See the greatest player the panthers have ever had. Agent 89.

you can never go wrong with line building. We 1000% need the guys we’ve gotten. I just hope they aren’t shortsighted, again.

    We’re completely starting over

Had Bryce not looked like the worst QB in all of football (CFL and NFL back-ups included) the Panthers wouldn’t be going in this direction

    They know he’s ass

Doing everything they can to make BRYCE win right now.

Same thing I said a while back. We will be so resource heave on line and WRs, the rest of the team will suffer.

Commenting because yes it fits a pattern of impatient, fixated, single mindedness on the shiny thing of the moment. It is always all out. And then the 'kill a mosquito with shotgun’ result of that process.

They have not been picking right at all, over and over. At the same time, you understand the need. It’s the heavy handed methods that they use just don’t feel that smart. I’m probably not saying that right.

Anyone else see this pattern? It the same with the QBs for years.

If it works great, of course, but they haven’t figured that part out yet.

I came here not to say that, but to say this: Don’t count chickens.

    Mike Wahle

    Michael Oher

    Bad Kalil

The OL upgrades don’t always take. Oher was good for some of that deal but it was mirage not too far in. Wahle was coinsidered a disappointment we expected a lot more. He didn’t bust exactly but he is here in the examples department. Kalil. He had one good season in Balt(?) His brother vouched for him.

Couple of highly drafted guys... Otah is who we don’t want Ickey to be.  Bruce Nelson was one of our highest drafted OL. Goofed on that one.

I haven’t watched either of these new guys yet guess it’s about time to do that.

This is what I’m trying to get at.

Yes, we are god awful on offense. Unwatchable. Completely. Unwatchable.

This just feels like a more aggressive version of the same approach that continues to fail us.

Instead of  building through the DRAFT, building quality depth and keeping core pieces, the way pretty much 100% of successful programs go… we do it the Panthers way. We spend big in FA with long contracts and assume our draft will land 5 starters, everyone works out and doesn’t check out mentally and everyone stays healthy.

Year after year we end up with 0 depth, but use the same approach anyway.

I pray that our talent evaluation has improved to the point where we can draft and shop at Target and land some quality depth that still cares about winning.

Again, I don’t hate any of the additions  I actually love them, but I see a similar trend as what’s failed in the past.

  13. I get the rebuild but this to me has a weird feel so far. It has a make Bryce win at all cost, and make it happen NOW, vibe. In the over 20 years I’ve followed the team, I’ve never once seen them this depleted on defense. I hope they don’t go literally 100% offense this year at the expense of the defense. BPA in draft, please. We need studs once again.

  14. They did not buy the team for the team. They bought the team so they could have the stadium, plain and simple. Hell, if they sell the team and it goes to another city, they’ll make billions off of the sale  and free up the stadium for 8 more events each year.

They are straight clowning us and they relish in it. Literally, almost every single move they have overseen has only helped us to lose more. It defies the law of averages.

Finding winners like Luvu was a complete fluke as was Wilks. I’m positive they will find a way to screw up and Brown and Luvu walk for nothing in return.

anything that helped us win either gets shipped or retires.

Moore, Wilks, Christian, Foreman, Reddick, Samuel, Mike Davis, Mario Addison, Bradbury, Olsen, Kuechly, etc.

DUDES. Winners. DAWGS. And who have we replaced them with? Lambs and washed up has beens. Young? GTFO. They knew choosing him would buy at least 2 abysmal seasons. Most wouldn’t make the practice squad on other teams. F these clowns. Sell the team already and keep your damn stadium.

  15. So we have 2 different versions of the truth(consensus pick to where we are now). Which one is it? Media and the Panthers are clowning us like the laughing stock that we are.

what we really should be questioning is why this, and why now? Who the hell drops a story like this in March? Besides coaching and GM changes,  It’s been radio silence for 3 months and all of a sudden, ‘owners wife wanted the other guy’. where is the damage control voicing the confidence you said you had in Bryce last season? That he’s your dude. Superprocessing point guard.

    Clown show.

  16. Yikes. So it goes from consensus pick!! Everyone wanted him!! best by a long shot!!  to… a piece saying the OWNERS of the team (yes, when it says Nicole, it also means Dave as well) didn’t want him.

So Reich obviously didn’t want him and the owners didn’t want him. If this is the case, who the hell was running this roster? Was Fitt really given that much power?

Bet Young feels great right about now.  But baby, you hugged me? lol. What a show. The off-season hasn’t even been really started and the combo save face/hit pieces are already dropping.

  17. Dan Morgan is one of the best LBs to play for the Panthers. With our history at that position, that’s high praise. He was a DUDE.

I believe in his talent evaluation skills. He knows what good football players are supposed to look like. I don’t see him falling for empty hype.

I’m in just straight ‘what is there to lose’ mode. I hope he’ll be good at backing Tepper off. It’s his only hope.

  18. 1. Bro is not going to go up there and throw his brand new boss’s hand picked franchise/coach killer under the bus.

    2. If Bryce comes in to training camp even a little beefed up and shows improved mechanics out the gate, I’ll be at least a bit more hopeful.

    3. We need to build the team. The focus needs to be TEAM. All positions need talent. Treat Bryce like the 5th rounder that he should have been. Help him out, but don’t dump everything you’ve got in to showing he can be adequate. Upgrade LT, center and WR. Switch Brady to LT. Ichy to guard. Find a new center. Draft o line and wr. If he shows 0 improvement, cut bait.

    4. run the damn ball. Want to know how to make it so the other team isn’t expecting pass? It’s called don’t pass. Do the thing people seem to bitch about the most. Run. The. Ball. Find rhythm. Build confidence.
