Speaking of revisiting trades: Brian Burns
Gapanthersfan replied to Peon Awesome's topic in Carolina Panthers
Couldn’t play the run? Check Quit on his team? Check never made a game sealing play? Check Don’t miss him 1 iota. -
Another defensive heavy draft on par with what they just pulled off should have them very competitive.

I have very little faith in DC the play caller, but much like the rest of the offense, he is afforded a bit of a mulligan. Opposing defenses have no respect for BY’s game, and why should they? There is a big chunk of DC’s playbook that is completely useless. I firmly believe the moment this franchise gets a dude that can make throws defenses are forced to respect, everything will change… and it’s not about just chucking bombs. It’s about getting passes where they need to go with good velocity having to throw off balance. We’ve seen it unfold every week and it’s the same thing. Same formula. Pressure up the middle, make him roll out to the left and dare him to throw. This is where he’ll eat a jersey tug sack, dirt a ball, throw it out, or take a 3 yard dump off. Very rarely does anything productive occur. Bryce does not have the arm strength to deliver an NFL level throw unless he has a clean pocket and perfect mechanics. A QB who at least challenges defenses with velocity, I believe, will change circumstances for the better. Now am I saying White will be an upgrade from our current situation? Doubtful. Very doubtful, but the longer the BY marriage is allowed to continue, the more likely it is to stick around.

Literally, nobody on this board hates BY the person. The majority of fans can now see that he is not cut out to be a high level starting QB in the NFL. It is what it is. If it was going to be different it would have already happened. He is almost half way through his third season. He has 2 1,000 yard backs, 2 first round receivers and one of the most expensive o lines in the league… and for what? What has he shown for it. Where has his game taken the next big step? Any of the top 15 passers in the league would have this offense cooking. Look at the resources that have been allocated. It’s a minor miracle that the defense has shown improvement with the inequity they have been given. Dan is working personnel miracles. It can’t keep going on this way. Contenders are built off of the premise that a high end QB can elevate JAG talent to be legit playmakers, thus freeing up draft capital to continually invest in the lines and stack the defense. Ravens. Steelers. Patriots. Seahawks. Chiefs. We’re now starting to see it in Denver and the Chargers. Baltimore is in a down year, but look at their track record and how they’ve done it. Strong defenses stacked with early round talent builds consistent winning. It’s why you don’t give big contracts to RBs to cover up for a QB that can’t get it done. Think about it. CMC. Chuba. Big money. Why is that? It’s because they largely have been THE offensive production. A franchise QB is supposed to make an RB look good, not the other way around. This offense is built completely backwards. BY will NEVER be THAT DUDE. Period. His limitations are mostly physical. He’s now 2 1/2 years in his NFL career and he still looks every bit as frail as he did on draft day. He could have EASILY added 15 more pounds of solid muscle by now… but hasn’t. Why not? It sure would help with the weak ass jersey grab sack fumbles he still struggles with. It’d definitely help with arm strength. Where’s the DAWG? Where has HE upped HIS game? He is a backup QB that a contender will need when their starting guy goes down. It would be prudent by our front office over the next several weeks to see this scenario unfold and dump him. There is 0 upside to continue to ride with him going forward.

I’m seeing this from a slightly different angle. Yes, this is about the Panthers turning over the sofa cushions to find a warm body at QB, but: I see the perfect opportunity to unload Bryce and sell at the peak of his market value, whatever that is. His injury isn’t scary enough to really turn him off from a team needing a backup QB. He will likely recover from this with no major long term deficit. He has shown that games still can be won with him as long he is surrounded by high level talent. This is the prime opportunity to offload the albatross. If they can just get a late round pick and get a team to agree to pick up his contract, that will be huge. Use the next few weeks to wait for a contender to lose their starting QB (happens every year) and then make them an offer they can’t refuse. What does continuing roll with him at this point accomplish? It’s a bit like not offloading Burns early. The longer the Panthers hold on to BY, the worse the leverage they will have when the 11th hour strikes. BY is a career backup who will become increasingly more expensive as the season progresses. Why keep him around any longer than you have to? This team will win 5-6 games this season so highly unlikely that they’re looking at a top 10 pick, so he’s not really helping in that regard. Everybody can see that he has clearly reached his ceiling so a longer audition is not necessary… so why keep holding on to the dude? What if it REALLY gets weird and they find away to cobble together 7-8 wins? I know, very unlikely but they still play NO twice and have always played TB close. The defense can stop the run and the offense can run the ball. It’s the age old recipe for winning football games. Then what? Will Tepper let Dan exile his golden boy at that point, or will the final nail in the coffin be struck when he ‘suggests’ signing BY long term, since the team is winning and all? Tepp is going to be the ONLY one who signs off on shipping his golden boy. Tepp hates admitting he was wrong, but I bet he hates losing even more. The WORST thing that could happen is to see the team start winning with BY under center. I pray to God Andy comes in hot and shows how bad BY is holding everything back.

I just want to see a big guy with an NFL certified cannon arm suit up for the panthers again. To me, it will show that they are at least trying to take the QB position in the direction it needs to go. Will he throw picks? Yes. Probably a hell of a lot, but (for now) I’m strangely ok with that… for now. I at least need to see a dude that CAN make the throws with some semblance of accuracy. This is the time to see what the QB whisperer is made of. The offensive talent is there. It’s certainly better than most rookie/journeymen QBs will ever step in to. If he can get a random dude playing at a JAG level, then I might be sold. Andy could really surprise in the Buffalo game. He (for now) still has enough arm for Tet and XL to show what they’ve got, but we all know it’s only going to be good for 3-4 games, max. He has vet savvy, and that does account for a lot. He also has a full week of practice with all the snaps to prepare. My best case scenario going forward: Andy plays the next 2 games nobly (winning one would be a huge bonus) giving White a chance to learn some of the playbook and develop chemistry with the players. Serviceable Andy turns in to old man Andy in game 3 and White takes the field after halftime. A high ankle sprain (lol, sure it is) is an injury that can buy the team a LONG time for BY to ride the pine…. Maybe even IR. His peak trade value is now. Get what they can for this albatross. He’s now shown that he can be a mid level backup which does hold a significant value for the right team. Not even in my wildest dreams do I see White being anything more than a JAG, but that’s ok. JAGs with a big arm make great bridge QBs that at least won’t have your play makers stagnating. Keeping BY under center is a 100% recipe for stagnating high ceiling (Tet/XL) dudes and/or not allowing them to take the next step in their development. Why even practice the good half of the playbook if the QB can’t make the throw? After a while, you’ve now got high ceiling guys who can only run a limited route tree. No thanks.

Horn and Brown appreciation thread

All-pros? Brown to me absolutely, Horn has more competition. We can have nice things again? -
Panthers have the 3rd leading rusher in NFL
Gapanthersfan replied to Pantherxtreme's topic in Carolina Panthers
DC may have anticipated the Jets to send the house early and often, necessitating the better blitz pickup back in the game. Wilks was never afraid of dialing up a good blitz, especially with a banged up O line. -

Someone correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t Chuba far superior with blitz pickup compared to Rico? Maybe this was DC’s rationale? -
Prime 77 is lofty praise, but it certainly passes the eye test for me. Brown’s leadership skills are definitely superior.

D Brown is a bad man and not taking anything away from him, but Tet is the biggest *potential* game wrecker this team has drafted since Cam. Just let that sink in.

XL has upside for days. The question has always been: Does he possess the aptitude and desire to realize his true potential. The mitigating factor in all of this is his true love of the game and how powerful is his competitive spirit. Does he truly love football? Only he knows the real answer to this question and it is those 2 qualities that will determine his success. Before choosing a dude in the first 3 rounds, the answer to those questions better be obvious. Doubters, myself included are salty over the fact that anyone who has payed attention to football for a few years could see this coming. How many 1 year wonder first round picks have turned in to all-pro players? which is the goal in any team’s first round selection…. And then they go and pick an RB coming off a major knee injury. Of all positions to have picked a dude coming off of a major knee injury and they choose RB? It was just so f-in stupid, and very Tepper/Fitt like. It’s like buying a near totaled Lambo at full sticker price. It had to of been ALL Tepp/fitt. I refuse to believe Dan would have been that dumb.
-
Consistently successful franchises do not whif first and second rounders. It’s just simply not allowed. They pick major college program dudes who were consistently studs throughout their tenure and don’t have an injury history. They pick big impact positions in early rounds and they go LB, safety, RB in later rounds unless there is a true stud that fell to them. Look at this year thus far with us. Undisputed best WR in the draft and then 2 edge guys from big schools. First 3 rounds. How’s that shaping up? It’s not really THAT hard. Pick the damn obvious pick in the first 2 rounds…. but we’ve drafted out of desperation, reached for the high measurables teachable workout warriors who then don’t amount to anything…. And then double down on it the next year.

I don’t see it happening either, which is good. We need to continue the young talent infusion.

It’s time to discuss DANimal Morgan as our GM

I’ll keep saying it. In Dan I trust. -
Where in the world did this run D come from?
Gapanthersfan replied to Eazy-E's topic in Carolina Panthers
Another contributing factor is bringing in dudes that are more ‘football smart,’ not just workout warriors and tell them ‘go get man who holding on to football.’ Boom plays better downhill. Tell him what to do and he’ll give his all. He’s not a green dot kind of guy. He’s not a great coverage guy (how many LBs are?) but he’s decent at pass rush and playing the run. He’s got a little wild man to him and I can appreciate that. Many will disagree, but I consider him to be a high motor JAG currently. Now to get Evero to dial up some better blitz pressure. -
That entire defense is going to be playing for Steve. Believe that.

Dan said they were going to stop the run. Dan got intelligent players who play the run well. 95 got healthy. This team has now shut down some very good RBs. -
