Panthers working out two premier pass rushers
Iceup replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
2 Different players Lawson is 6’2 or so… 265lbs. Missed most of last year with an injury- 29 years old. Not flashy but had 7 sacks 2 years ago and was pretty good vs the run. Yannick is at least 20 pounds lighter (also about 6’2)and more of a speedy sack specialist. He has had 9.5 and 10 sack seasons in the past but only had 4 in 13 games last year. Also 29 -

USA TODAY record projections. Panthers not last
Iceup replied to raleigh-panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
They are saying the Falcons take the division at 9-8. We are 4 games behind everyone else in the division…and yet that would be improvement for us compared to last year…sad I hope we pull a few more out and really improve- something like 7-10 would be pretty big for this team. -
The New and Improved Offense: The Offensive Line
Iceup replied to MHS831's topic in Carolina Panthers
It’d be nice if the change in scheme and coaching could make Mays, and/or Zavala serviceable linemen or depth. I’m excited to see Icky establish himself and be successful- I’m hoping these changes payoff- our wagons are hitched to these guys this year. -
Cup half full- Bryce’s hands are bigger than Kenny Pickets….super Bowl or Bust!

Jonathon Brooks staying patient, playing the long game
Iceup replied to Carolina Panthers's topic in Carolina Panthers
If the running game is the focus of the new scheme I have no problem bringing in a young talented back to make it work, if he’s the right back for this scheme in round 2. The injury bothers me and I’m not sure Brooks is the right guy. When I watch the tape he is patient, sure-footed, and has pretty good hands. Perhaps most importantly he doesn’t hesitate to make a cut and get upfield (even though he’s patient he doesn’t hesitate to hit the hole) He is faster than , say Kamara, but not real fast. I He also doesn’t seem to have elite burst. Also, he’s not small, but doesn’t play line a 215 pound back either. I thinks it’s a bit of a gamble because of the injury, his youth, and the fact that he may not have enough elite traits. I didn’t view this has a good draft for backs though and he probably was the best one available this past year. (Him or Benson I guess). -

Do they have anyone on the roster that played center last year besides that that rookie UDFA? I am surprised they haven’t added anyone with experience at that position as depth or insurance. There are a couple of FA options still available. -
I’m torn on BY. I didn’t want him at 1 - I was a Stroud guy. I thought he’d get murdered behind our line because he’s so slow and small. When people talk about his top attributes they’re not really physical. He’s smart, great decisions, works hard, etc. We all saw what he was last year and it was bad. But… we have also all saw how bad the coaching, scheme, OL, and receivers were as well. I hope under the new regime Bryce’s positive traits will shine- that said his ceiling seems to be very limited. I hope he does better and is better than I and others anticipate this year, but it’d take a miracle I think.

Good Morning Huddlers, I have recently joined and can reply to posts but cannot create my own- except on the NFL topic. Is this because I’m new or is something wrong with my account? I had a different account during and prior to COVID- but lost access to it. I used to post from time to time as Mitchel G. I never got flagged or anything. Any help or info on how to post would be appreciated. Thanks

I hope you can see this cuz I’m doing it as hard as I can… also we can’t be much worse than last year…right?

A look at the Offensive Upgrades: Wide Receiver
Iceup replied to MHS831's topic in Carolina Panthers
IMO the biggest Question mark will be can any of these guys stretch the field vertically on a consistent basis. There is some speed in the group but no real burners. I’d really like to see us be able to connect deep from time to time. That part of the passing game could really compliment our desire to run the football. -
There are an other CBs who have been successful in the past still on the market. Many are a little younger, but all have concerns like injury, inconsistency, or locker room issues. I guess what it comes down to are any of them better than Dane Jackson, can we afford them, will they come here for what we are willing to offer. Teams that went 2-15 and have the ownership we have almost always have to overpay to attract FAs. So if Gilmore isn’t really interested or is too expensive what about Adoree Jackson, X. Howard, JC Jackson or some of the others. Considering Horn’s injury history I anticipate we got to do something to get someone else in that room but I can also understand waiting til camp to see who else might get cut.

I did not want BY at one last year. I like the kid though as a person- He reminds me of the nice kid who bags my groceries or who helps me when I order flowers for the wife at the florist, instead a QB of an NFL team. He does not seem to have the athletic traits necessary to be successful at this level. That said, I’m rooting for him. He was surprisingly durable last season. While he looks like a boy among men he was tough. I hope the new staff can develop whatever traits made him a #1 overall selection. I’ll give him 1 more year- toughness and hard work can make a difference- I hope.

Daewood Davis- This had been coming for awhile- probably just a camp body. I also read last week they were gonna workout Hakeem Butler but I haven't saw anything else on that. Here the link: https://www.panthers.com/news/panthers-add-wide-receiver

They really screwed up with Burns. I’d like to keep him, but I too doubt he wants to be here. He hasn’t played himself into the money he wanted and I think it’d be foolish to pay him like he’s a top 5 edge rusher. He likely won’t accept a second tier level deal. Our best hope IMO is to tag him and try to trade him- even the tag will be more than he might be worth- but it’s better to try to get something for him than to let him walk for nothing. If we do pay him I hope he proves me wrong- and wish him the best.

Should we seriously consider Evero for head coach?
Iceup replied to PleaseCutStewart's topic in Carolina Panthers
IMO Tepoers and others hard on for a bright Offensive minded HC is a little too extreme. I think EE has done his current job well and should be considered as an option. Defensive guys aren’t idiots when it come to offense. As a matter of fact he might know more about how certain offensive guys should be used because he spends so much time studying offenses and how to counter certain players, schemes and tendencies. He may not be the best option depending on who else is available and interested but he and other Defensive guys should be considered seriously- we are foolishly limiting ourselves otherwise. -
Scott Fowler would definitely never get to ask any more questions at Press Conferences!

Bill would make Bryce a ball boy- and the proceed to scrap the team and make a completely different sh!tshow.

TMJ is big and pretty fast, but he plays doesn’t play as physical as a similar sized guy like DK Metcalf. Mingo reminds me a bit of AJ Brown but even though he sticks in nose in and blocks, he’s not able to make plays when DBs are bumping him. He may get better- he’s only a rookie. As for Chark and Marsette- they’re fast but don’t run routes good enough to get separation. No one but Thielan seems to have good hands and he’s are smallest, oldest and slowest guy. To make matters worse Bryce isn’t throwing anyone open and the OL ain’t really helping much either. The thing that really ticks me off is the coaches trying to pass the ball with a yard to go knowing how successful our running game has been recently.

The Saints still have something to play for- they are only one game out. If Tampa beats ATL today and NO beats Carolina then they are all 6-7. And us …well…worse.
