I'm starting to think one of Steichen or Kafka is going to end up being the next Panthers HC. If you wanted Reich, Wilks, or Caldwell, you could've made that move by now. I think Payton is using Tepper purely for leverage purposes at this point, and even if he did want to come to Carolina, it sounds like the Saints are going to make it cost prohibitive to do so. Feels like Payton doesn't mind ending up in Denver or waiting another year when there's more openings.

I would rather draft a ballhawk S prospect and move Chinn full time to LB akin to Davis who was drafted as a S but became a full time LB. Restructure and/or cut Shaq and resign him to a team friendly deal, roll with Luvu - Shaq - Chinn at LB and go with Woods and a high draft pick or FA signing at S (Poyer/Bates/Bell/CJG could all be options depending on our cap moves).

I think Ryans is giving Carolina the stiff arm. He's somehow managed to schedule interviews with the other 4 vacancies today through Saturday but couldn't find a time to interview with the Panthers?

Possible London game next year at Titans
UNCrules2187 replied to thunderraiden's topic in Carolina Panthers
That was probably the last good experience of the Rivera Panthers...started the season 4-2 playing Kyle Allen, finished 5-11 lmao. -
Possible London game next year at Titans

Could be facing Jags in London as well 2019 season (Ron's last) vs Bucs - went to the game, it was great -

People seem to be sleeping on Mike Kafka as a candidate
UNCrules2187 replied to Ricky Spanish's topic in Carolina Panthers
I'd prefer Steichen to Kafka if we're going with a young coach. Has been a coordinator for 2 different franchises working with two different and successful QBs in Herbert and Hurts. Better diversity of coaching experience as well IMO. -
"When will we know the new head coach?" - A three year study
UNCrules2187 replied to Evil Hurney's topic in Carolina Panthers
To be fair Rivera was fired 4 weeks prior to the end of the regular season so I’m sure there were back channel conversations going on there -
Payton interviewed with Broncos Tuesday morning in LA (i.e. afternoon East Coast time), not Monday morning

Lol no thx

Steichen has quite a pool of candidates he could draw from for his OC: Coached with Anthony Lynn (HC) and Pep Hamilton (QB coach) in San Diego - both have been OCs before. Hamilton I'm assuming is out in Houston with the regime change and Lynn is currently AHC/RBs under Shanahan in SF. Could try to bring Brian Johnson (QB coach) or Kevin Patullo (passing game coordinator) Could look into bringing Scott Turner on as OC

By your definition, which opening this year doesn't have a red flag front office? Maybe Denver and they're either going to hire Payton or Quinn - they tried young OC and didn't like the results. Leftwich passed on the Jags job because of what he felt like was a red flag front office and now he is (or about to be) fired.
-
I would agree if these young coordinators were specifically pulling out of the Panthers search but staying in contention for other open jobs, but that's not the case. Ben Johnson - also interviewed with Colts and Texans; decided to stay put Mike Kafka - didn't pull out, just delaying HC interviews until Giants are out of playoffs Shane Steichen - interviewed last Saturday; still a candidate and can't be interviewed again until Jan 30th if Eagles advance Ken Dorsey - interviewing this Saturday Kellen Moore - interview requested, haven't seen any mention of him pulling out of the search DeMeco Ryans sounds like this was a logistics issue, but maybe he did decide to pull out; in any case, I think if the Panthers go with a defensive hire, it's going to be Wilks anyway.
-
Interesting that Dorsey will interview a day before his team plays the Bengals; not sure I'd be happy about that if I were a Bills fan... Tepper's going to be in NY on Friday anyway for the Payton interview, easy enough to take the 1 hour flight from there to Buffalo to interview Dorsey. Might as well kill two birds with one stone.

I think we’re gonna end up with Wilks
-
Brian Flores got DC interviews and is interviewing in Arizona for the HC job. As for retaining Wilks, no thanks.

Go on record now before the hire is made Re: Sean Payton
UNCrules2187 replied to GOAT's topic in Carolina Panthers
I'll take Sean Payton, Tom Brady, and Von Miller if it means they can get us a ring. -
I'm left with tangible proof of success in my scenario. Lombardis are forever. Who remembers that 2015 Panthers season besides Carolina fans? 15-1 and a SB appearance and yet it was all for naught.
-
I guess for me I liken that to empty calories/junk food. Yeah I got the sugar high, but ultimately what am I left with?
-
A decade of playoffs and close calls with no ring will get that coach fired anyway. It got Andy Reid fired in Philly, it got Dan Reeves fired in Denver, it got Mike Holmgren fired in Seattle. John Fox went 46-18 in Denver and was fired after 3 straight 12+ win seasons.
-
No guarantee of that no matter who we hire. Given we were just talking Broncos, how do you think their fans felt coming into this season after firing Fangio and with Nathanial Hackett paired with Russell Wilson? Look how that turned out. Feelings don't mean poo, results do. And this is coming from a guy that was all in on Ben Johnson. I hope Steichen or Kafka can replicate what guys like McVay, Taylor, etc have done, but I've come around to Payton not being a bad alternative.
