  1. He's going to get the bag. You don't trade a mid-30s pick to then not retain the guy. Just like Burns has the Panthers over the barrel in terms of negotiating leverage, so too does Sweat with the Bears. Guaranteed he's going to get more than Rashan Gary just got. I bet $27m per year is the absolute floor for AAV for his deal, probably going to be more than that.
  2. Sweat as a free agent edge rusher netted a 2nd round pick. You might get a little bit more for Burns based on that precedent given he's a better rusher but worse against the run. Absolutely not worth it for the Panthers.
  3. https://x.com/aschatznfl/status/1719380029858046206?s=46&t=TyPNsVcMFhB651jT1wRDxA lol, Da Bears
  4. I was actually excited about Hurst after week 1 given what we had endured with the poo poo platter of Thomas/Tremble. 5/41 and a TD? Not exactly Greg Olsen in his prime output, but miles better than what we had been getting since Olsen left. Little did I know that would basically constitute 40% of his overall production so far this season.
  5. Unfortunately we are stuck with Sanders and Hurst through next season. Both have outs with significant cap savings and minimal dead cap hits after the 2024 season. Atrocious signings though.
  6. I don't buy this argument. Burns is a one dimensional player, sure, but that one dimension is one of the most valuable dimensions to be great at. Is he a great run defender? No, subpar at best. Have you taken a look at the rest of this defense in terms of run defense? Maybe transitioning to a 3-4 and then not signing or retaining a single NT worth a damn or apparently focusing on tackling has more to do with our piss poor run defense than Burns. I'm in pay Burns camp. The only trades I'd entertain are those that bring at least two firsts, or a first and a real established offensive player back (e.g. Davante Adams). Absent that, give the man his money. In a league where Rashan Gary is worth $27m per, yes Burns is worth $30m per.
  7. Difference is people seem to be more than happy to show the one of those valuable guys the door. I mean this is the problem by the way - we have been in a talent drain and continue to be more than willing to show those few players that are worth keeping the door. Meanwhile we keep whiffing on picks. Eventually the entire team will be made of JAGs.
  8. This is a pretty stupid argument - what's our record with any starter? We might as well get rid of the entire team because they all have an abysmal record as starters.
  9. Sounds like they want draft capital and not players. I'd rather not give up more draft capital. I know INTs aren't everything, but Horn has one more pick in 28 less than games than Johnson. Johnson had 1 INT coming into this season in 39 career games. He's probably looking for a contract that's top 10 in AAV which is ~$18m/per. I'd rather spend more on pass rush tbh.
  10. We have 16 sacks on the season, 14 of which belong to players who are currently set to be FAs, 11 of which are edge/OLB (Burns, Luvu, YGM, Grugier-Hill, Chinn, Henderson; not to mention Haynes who is also a FA). Who exactly are we getting to rush the passer after this season?
  11. Looks like the projected exclusive tag number for DE is going to be just north of $21m. Could definitely see the Panthers tagging Burns and making him play on the tag. 2 straight years of tags would probably be something like ~$44m guaranteed. That's probably the basis of a contract extension.
  12. Former beat writer Jonathan Jones reiterates Burns is unlikely to be traded: https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/nfl-trade-deadline-2023-all-of-the-latest-rumblings-including-which-teams-are-buyers-and-who-they-may-target/
  13. If you think he's getting $3m/year less than Rashan Gary, you've got another thing coming...
  14. Moton to LT, Icky to LG and start someone else at RT. Can’t be worse than what we’ve seen so far.
  15. Guessing weren’t not going after Jeudy lmao: https://x.com/allbrightnfl/status/1717951053956563039?s=46&t=TyPNsVcMFhB651jT1wRDxA
  16. I feel this way about Jackson too. Every Sunday he's on the field and we see him get burned I scream we got to get rid of this guy. However, during the week when I'm more rational, he's clearly the best CB we've got right now (until Horn can consistently play 80% of a season I can't say he's better) and you have to have SOMEBODY out there. What's the point of eating $15m in dead money for a late round pick? Especially since it seems pretty likely Henderson is gone after this season?
  17. Per Dan Graziano at ESPN, teams are being told Burns is "not available" when they inquire. Behind ESPN paywall:
  18. Saw Ellis post we're giving up 5.7 ypc on 1st down runs. I get guys are injured, but to give up more than 5 yards every time an opponent runs on 1st down points to poor tackling and gap discipline first and foremost.
  19. In thinking of contenders that could use Burns to make a SB push, I wonder if the Ravens might be interested...could potentially buy low on Rashod Bateman (former first round pick who's dealt with injuries) and see if we can get some premium draft picks back as well. Maybe Burns and TMJ for Bateman, 2024 1st and a 2024 2nd?
  20. Gross-Matos to IR explains the OLB signing today. http://bit.ly/494oQ9L Panthers defenders on IR: Horn Woods Thompson Chinn Gross-Matos Haynes Anderson
  21. Would think this points to one of Burns, Luvu, Chinn, or Gross-Matos being dealt (in order of unlikely to likely IMO).
  22. I'm a big bowl of meh on Brown. He's fine, solid even. In hindsight, of the three that Chicago asked for, he's the one I would've been least upset about parting with.
  23. It really is mind boggling IMO that we decided to trade DJ rather than include Brown in the trade. Unless you're Aaron Donald, DTs are a dime a dozen. DJ was on a great contract for a WR1 too. I think the offense would look much better with DJ and Thielen as legit receiving threats.
