$27m per for Wilkins, that Brown contract is going to be eye opening edit: I don't think the Panthers are going to be able to afford both Brown and Burns. Think one is gone.
-
edit: nvm
-
Mike Brown was gonna let Carson Palmer rot on his couch unless he got exactly what he wanted in a trade. I don't think Higgins is going anywhere - his best hope is that another team does him/his agent a solid and negotiates a deal that Cincy will then match.

I mean I would say DJ Moore was a hit. Then we decided to trade our only proven WR in a trade up for a young QB instead of trading Burns. That was dumb.
-
I think 5 years, $27m per is fair value, if not a slight overpay. Burns can negotiate with other teams under this tag, so let's see what the rest of the league is willing to pay him...

How Would You Grade the 2023 Draft Now?

I was responding to the rankings of players drafted with Tepper as an owner. With Fitt as GM, yeah, it's looking pretty terribad. -

Went back and...YIKES 1. Derrick Brown - far and away best player drafted under the Tepper regime MASSIVE GAP 2. Jaycee Horn? Elite flashes when healthy but that's only like 30% of the time 3. ...Chubba Hubbard? Brady Christensen? -

Yeah, I try to be optimistic, and I hope Bryce looks better with the new coaching staff, but woof. We could've just re-signed Darnold or started Dalton as a bridge QB, drafted Carter/Darnell Wright/Peter Skoronski with the 9th pick, kept DJ and probably get one of Williams/Maye/Daniels this year. Regardless of how this draft pans out (with the exception of Bryce becoming a superstar), the opportunity cost was massive and tracking to being an absolute disaster. -
Panthers current Free Agents

We tried the homegrown route with WRs many times and the only real one we hit on since Smitty we traded away. Look at all the WR busts or nonfactors we've drafted in the first 3 rounds since we hit on Smitty (leaving out Mingo because it's too early to tell but early returns were pretty meh): Terrace Marshall (2nd round) Curtis Samuel (2nd round) Devin Funchess (2nd round) Kelvin Benjamin (1st round) Brandon LaFell (3rd round) Armanti Edwards (3rd round) Dwyane Jarrett (2nd round) Keary Colbert (2nd round) -
I think you have to pick it up. If he finally stays healthy and plays to his level, you'll be looking at a franchise tag/contract extension at a much higher number.
-
I mean while I'd love a Mahomes-level talent at QB, let's not forget that if potentially any one of Greenlaw tearing his Achilles running on to the field, Moody getting an XP blocked, a punt hitting a 49er in the leg, the Chiefs recovering 5 (!) of their 6 (!!!) fumbles in the game go the other way, you could've easily seen Brock Purdy SB winning QB. The 49ers were extremely unlucky last night and still arguably should've won the game.
-
While I agree, let's not forget McDaniels actually accepted a job and then reneged and he still got another head coaching gig. If he directs another top 5 offense next year, he'll have plenty of interest next offseason as well. But he may also be like McDaniels and other good OCs in that he's better as coordinator than as a HC.
-
Yeah his projections are all over the place. Daniel Jeremiah had him in the first round to the Chiefs in his initial mock though.
-
Forgot about him - think he's a better pivot than Quinn or the others but who knows.
-
Selfishly would love to grab Tez Walker at the top of the 2nd. Heard he's been tearing it up at the Senior Bowl so far.
-
It really does seem like the Commanders were all in on Johnson and got burned. Honestly feels like Tepper last year - think he was ready to hire Johnson and the interview was just a formality then had to pivot once he pulled out and we ended up with a mish mash coaching staff.
-
He has not
-
I think they should go back to the drawing board...maybe wait to interview Wilks after the SB? I'd rather have Wilks over any of those three tbh.
-
Eh, I'm cool with us granting him permission to seek out a trade, but he's under contract for $3m. He's being paid very well. There's enough DC openings that someone may throw us a mid-late round pick to secure his services. I'm not letting him out of a contract he signed just because he's unhappy.
-
At some point you have to pull the trigger. Like everyone said, there’s only 32 of these gigs and if he has a subpar year or two, he may never be a HC (assuming he wants to be one)
-
I don't mind having a former HC on staff. I don't like it being Caldwell - would prefer it be someone that Canales has a relationship with, if possible (e.g. Carroll or Dungy)
-
No need for Caldwell to stay involved, smh

Moton's been a rock at RT and has been more than serviceable IMO. Not point in cutting him, even as a 6/1 release, that would open up $17.5m in cap space in a year where we already have $30m-plus in space and would have to spend a premium pick or money replacing him. Much more likely that we do a base salary restructure again which would open up ~$6.5m in additional space I believe. Personally I would like to roll out the Icky/BC/Bozeman/Corbett/Moton OL again and see if a better scheme or coach can have them playing to their 2022 2nd half potential while investing a mid-round pick in quality T depth.

I'd rather see if Horn can finally make it through a season healthy than ship him off for a 5th round pick or some sort of mid/late round pick swap (e.g. Okudah only netting a 5th rounder from Atlanta). He's shown to be elite when on the field and he's basically in the final year of his deal (I very much doubt his 5th year option gets picked up), so might as well take the gamble at this point. Those who are saying sure if he nets a 1st round pick, that has absolutely zero shot of happening. Okudah was a top 3 pick that played 25 games over his first 3 seasons and only netted a 5th round pick: https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/36159739/lions-trade-former-no-3-overall-pick-jeff-okudah-falcons
