  1. Tua was soooo close to having a perfect day though for week 1 of the preseason. Just chucked it into double coverage in the red zone. God I’m so happy football is back. Worried tomorrow will be slightly boring though with our starters not playing.
  2. We get it man. You’re trying real hard to bait people to overreacted to like 14 snaps of preseason football.
  3. Mitch T started preseason 10-10 with a TD. Let’s not sprain ankles jumping on and off bandwagons before week 3-4.
  4. We’ve seen Cam Newton look awful in the preseason, Bortles look like the GOAT during it, and so on.
  5. The coaches have said the preseason results are going to determine the battle and that’s it’s been 50/50 in camp this far. Lock gets the first start. Teddy will get the second. Teddys experience should have him taking the job from turnover prone Lock but they have been rotating good and bad practices. It’s not a good look for either guy.
  6. Yeah he was fine in rookie camp but is battling back issues. Apparently he had bouts like this in college as well.
  7. I think we’d be saying this for any QB who wound up there.
  8. All we know was what they said on it here: They felt Darnold + Horn was better value for the team than Fields alone or Fields + Darnold. It’s easy to understand the thinking behind it even if I disagree.
  9. Last year Northwester was 5th in PPG Against. Indiana was 19th. Those were his two bad games. Northwestern had a Safety lead the league with 6 INTs despite only playing 9 games. Indiana lead all of the NCAA in interceptions. In the Indiana game Fields put up just under 400 yards and 3 TDs to go along with those 3 INTs he threw. That's also completely dismissing what was something like 20+ players sitting out and like 8 starters. Even with the guys that were practicing one week and then having to sit the next due to covid, I won't dismiss Fields poor showing against Northwestern. That was a game with no real positives for him. But if you judge simply off of a covid season where one week you are playing and the next you aren't and ignoring his entire 2019 that's where the mistake is made. But people did similarly with Wilson. Ignore his previous seasons and chalk them up to being injured/healing and just look at his magical 2020 against trash tier comp. The only one that was super hard to read was Lance as he was a young guy not asked to throw a ton and then didn't even really play last year. Hard to know if that would help or hurt him.
  10. The kids having a mental breakdown after being a first round pick and playing well his rookie year. Any time making a move for him is going to need to constantly check in on him to take care of him.
  11. Drafting Justin Herbert didn’t fix their oline. They are still a bad oline but their offense as a whole was much improved and scored 50 more points than the year before with a rookie QB. Now they can build around him. If the QB you believe in is there, you go get him. Then you can pair up a stud tackle the next year to protect him like Slater in this draft.
  12. I would make the argument that most of the first round drafted QBs would look good in SF at the moment. It’s the one spot I felt if Wilson, Fields or Lance went to SF they would become an average NFL QB at a minimum. They’ve got a solid squad to surround a QB with.
  13. To be fair, the running ability is harder to show off in camp and when Cam is a threat to run he’s dangerous with the arm.
  14. Covid made the typical scouting cycle and routine impossible so some people were overhyped and some dealt with crazy prospect fatigue. Wilson has outstanding arm talent but his numbers against teams with losing records compared to teams with winning records probably had the biggest gap between them of all the major QBs in the draft. He could still ball out. He may break their curse. Normally their QBs look good early and then struggle during the year. Maybe he will be the opposite.
  15. Still concerning for an older rookie who will be 25 at the start of the season and drafted 70th overall.
  16. Wilson has been getting shredded in the media for consistently practicing poorly so far and was the worst of all the QBs yesterday in front of the fans at their fan fest. I think he was the only one to not get into the end zone and he turned the ball over twice in three drives.
  17. He’s one of the picks I was worried about. Felt like we were riding the train of thinking too highly of BYU playing against some really bad competition last year.
  18. I think health is the only thing that is going to derail him currently. The Bears coaching staff isn’t world beaters but they are more than fine. The talent around him will be the same. Not world beaters but fine. I’d take our weapons over the Bears for sure. Outside of Allen Robinson the rest are inconsistent and you’re hoping to see progress. We have already seen CMC, DJ and the Sun God perform well for multiple seasons. I think this is the year Sam breaks 20 touchdown passes in a season and I’m hoping to see 63-66% completions out of him. Those would be things to see to show he’s progressing as a pro and going into next year he should be taking off at the right time for himself, when he’d be due for a new contract.
  19. Are you trying to paint the two coaches in similar light? Because they shouldn't be. Outside of neither one being able to develop a QB so far the similarities end there.
  20. I also think and have said just as much about him being better here. I think Teddy would have been fine here as well if he would try to push the ball downfield and not constant fly settle for a dump off check down. Darnold will push the ball. That’s what we need.
  21. I believe you Mr. Scot. I just hadn't, and still haven't seen those myself. I am not saying it didn't happen. I just hadn't seen it.
  22. Just a quick look at these and I see all the same things: Talk. These examples didn't show him staying late when nobody else is there anymore or showing up so early the lights aren't on and he's the only one in the building. I don't see him putting in the work outside of normal business hours likes Fields has. You are also implying I am saying that he didn't put in any work or that he didn't study at all. I suggested he could have done more. I've also repeatedly said I believe in Darnold. I have also been happy about having him here since the trade. The Jets did not give him real competition at the position. Also, I have NEVER given Adam Gase a pass. I also haven't prepared to blame Matt Nagy at all. That is something another user suggested. I think there's a bit of confusion here between my replies to you and my replies to another user.
  23. On lunch at the moment so I am running out of time to reply but I can address the bottom part quickly: Fields is currently go above and beyond what is expected from a rookie QB in terms of leadership and accountability. Fields doesn't need another first round QB to inspire him to go above and beyond. He is literally doing that for all to see. If you swapped Fields and Darnold stories I would be all over the Sam Darnold train. Among the other stories about getting to the facility so early that he had to ask other players and staff where the light switches were at because he was getting there much earlier than everyone else. These aren't stories just being told like coach speak or organization speak, the kid is actually *showing* people the effort and work put in. Early in, late out. I took a break from this forum after the draft but I still keep up with local writers and everything posted on The Athletic. The praise Fields is getting as a leader already is coming from many different sources. And its not a story about him staying late, we have seen it many times now already. He is doing all this as a true rookie. Both a vocal leader and a leader who is leading via action. The kid brought his playbook with him on vacation after the draft. If I have missed Sam Darnold getting to the building before everyone else to work out, or staying after practice by himself to run and work out and study, then I acknowledge my mistake. Darnold has the talent to be a good player. We blame coaching, the talent around him, and the organization. The Bears don't have great coaches, they have one stud weapon on offense in Allen Robinson who doesn't even want to be there really, and the organization hasn't accomplished much since Urlacher retired. Fields is removing the what if scenarios of failure. We aren't going to be asking what if he just took practice more serious, what if he worked out more, what if he studied more, what if he was more of a vocal leader, etc. Justin doesn't need to be pushed by anybody else to work towards greatness. Maybe having Teddy around would have helped push Darnold a bit more? Maybe a change of scenery is going to push Darnold to be better? This is his fourth year in the NFL. Up to this point he hasn't had to look over his shoulder. If he was healthy he was "the guy". He has played 38 games and has thrown 39 interceptions. The one major thing the Jets didn't try was giving him a real threat of competition where the backup could take his job before the season started. The kid needs to be pushed at this point because he has been coddled enough.
