The second round pick was for Claypool but the Steelers felt the Bears second round pick would be a higher pick than the Packers so they went with that. Plus, I love Justin Fields, but no offense.... Claypool would look significantly better with Rodgers throwing to him than Fields. If he plays up to his potential it looks like fair value for Chicago and Pitt. If he boomed under Rodgers the Steelers would look like they got robbed.

ProFootballFocus Mock Draft has Carolina Picking at 3 - Will Levis
Varking replied to Varking's topic in Carolina Panthers
I am a Florida homer. I said we should have no part in Kyle Trask because I don't believe he has the physical skills to make all of the throws in the NFL. When you watch the Bowl Game against Oklahoma and his starting WRs were gone and Pitts wasn't playing, his lack of velocity became very apparent. He is a big guy with a below average arm. He went in the second round. Richardson has the wheels of a high end NFL QB. Richardson has the arm of a high end NFL QB. People forget that Dan Mullen would refuse to play this kid last year when Emory Jones couldn't move the ball. Richardson is still learning the position. And thats the scary part. Can he continue to learn and grow? Do you trust your coaches to help him develop? He is showing those signs in college NOW. Anthony Richardson first four games: 65 of 121 (53.7%) for 876 yards, 2 passing touchdowns and 5 interceptions. He also tacked on 41 carries for 196 yards and 5 TDs. 4.78 yards per carry. During this time he faced no top defense. Tennessee was the closest and he threw for 450 yards, 2 touchdowns passing, 2 rushing and 1 INT against them at the end of the game. Since then he has played five games: 66 of 114 (57.8%) for 963 yards, 7 passing touchdowns to only 2 interceptions. He also tacked on 33 carries for 296 yards and 3 TDs. 8.96 yards per carry. He did this against LSU, Texas A&M and Georgia. Hooker / Richardson vs Georgia = 195 yards and 0 TDs and 1 INT vs 271 yards and 1 TD with 0 INT. Richardson is three years younger with significantly worse weapons and protection than Hooker. Hooker likely goes in round 2. So Richardson, from a pro-tools standpoint is likely going high end round 2 or back end of round 1. But thats if he continues to play ball with minimal turnovers and show progress as a passer. Everyones favorite prospects as QB are talking a hit on their numbers in recent weeks and folks are looking for reasons to tear them down and Richardson is the one showing progress throughout the year. I still hope he comes back for one more season but hes going to get a lot of love from scouts and it may force his hand. -
This. And Jordan Addison as well.

No point tanking for players that aren’t draft eligible this upcoming season.
-
Hasn’t helped them win games. Trade back, get extra picks, snag Richardson.

Gibbs is getting 5 yards a carry. Why avoid running?

That’s how I feel about my Gators. Mullen forgot to recruit.

Richardson played better against Georgia.

ProFootballFocus Mock Draft has Carolina Picking at 3 - Will Levis
Varking replied to Varking's topic in Carolina Panthers
I also didn’t think Allen had any chance at being good. Especially after his first year was so bad. But their team surrounded him with talent and focused on his development. I think a QB coming to Carolina has better talent to throw to than Allen had in year 1 but can we develop a guy? -

I also would rather have Anderson than Levis. Levis also performed awful against Florida and we don't play defense. Anthony Richardson lit up Tennessee way better than Levis as well. -
Take note outside of Allen none of these are recent. Your list of current "small school" NFL starting QBs is: 1. Trey Lance - Looks bad and got hurt. 2. Zach Wilson - Looks bad and got hurt. 3. Carson Wentz - Looks bad and got hurt. 4. Josh Allen - MVP candidate. And the list of starting QBs is overwhelmingly towards the majority of first and second rounders. McCall likely isn't that. Its getting harder and harder to find diamond in the rough QBs in the later rounds. The Jaguars might have had one in Minshew and he played significantly better than Lawrence has thus far and with worse weapons. Unfortunately for Gardner he is sitting behind Hurts on an undefeated team so he is going to have to test the free agent waters next year and see who wants to roll the dice on him.

I run the shows subreddit r/LOTR_on_Prime and we are going to be giving away 25 TV Tie-In Combo Books in the coming weeks. I will share here so maybe somebody from here can win one. The cover that is attached.

Kiper was one of the more accurate ones for 2022.
-
Kiper was tied for 12th out of 163 or something like that last season: https://www.fantasypros.com/nfl/accuracy/mock-drafts.php Chris Simms was 159/163.

What’s your 2023 QB big board (including Corral)
Varking replied to Wundrbread33's topic in Carolina Panthers
If you are in the NFL you are physically talented. Some guys improve. Some don’t. That’s the nature of the business. -
This is the move. If you need him to sit a year, which he does as of now, you want those 4 extra rookie years of his contract. This is probably why some team drafting in the back of the first takes a swing on him.

Oh we completely agree. The physical tools are there and the kid works hard. I have no doubt he will improve as a passer next year, however, because of the NFL hype I worry he’s going to leave after this year and settle for being a second round QB rather than develop one more year at Florida and then go be a first rounder. The good news for him is that if he goes to the NFL now the only teams likely to to risk it on him are going to be picking in the back half of the second round and are likely good to great teams where he can have a stable organization around him. He’s not going to get drafted by a team like the Panthers. He needs another year of cooking. -

You like to move goalposts a lot. There is no all world talent at QB in this draft. We also don’t have one on the roster. So what do we do? -

Passed for 270 on Georgia and 450 on Tennessee. -
Folks, You don’t have to pick a specific guy others want you to pick when you draft first overall. When you have that pick, you can take whoever you deemed to be “your guy”. Also don’t forget there’s a reason a team drafts first overall. They are a bad team. They have a harder time climbing their team out of the gutter compared to a guy drafted 15th overall.

You would have said the same thing about Josh Allen.
